Rome B19 Large Column Sundial Pedestal Base, Cast Iron with Painted Finish, 28-Inch Height by 9-Inch Width

Purchased the Rome B19 Large Column Sundial Pedestal base and the Rome 1339 Iron Armillary Sundial in August of 2016 for my wife's birthday.The assembly was intended for my wife's outdoor garden. It looked just great among the flowers and the rose garden.In October of 2017 we were planning to add a seating area. To our surprise, we've noticed that the Sundial was off the base and on the concrete pad next to the pedestal base. The monthly arch was broken in half. As an engineer, I've examined the assembly and it was quite obvious that the sundial assembly fell off the pedestal. The threads on the knob holding the sundial assembly was totally rusted out with a rust powder was present in the fork holding the sundial. Apparently, the rains, hot-cold temperature cycles and the type of unprotected iron casting caused a severe rust on the bolt holding the sundial assembly. The weight of the sundial assembly broke away from the holding bolt, which after 1 year of located outdoor, exhibited totally rusted threads. The Sundial's monthly arch was also made of cast iron and looking and the cracked surfaces, they were also rusted. This was also and indication of a previous cracked assembly which eventually broke apart.The Amazon staff was attempting to contact the seller, Yard Envy, by forwarding my complaint.There was no response from them or from the manufacturer.One would expect that the outdoor items which are intended for placement outdoor, would last more than just one year.One would expect that the manufacturer would take the responsibility for the quality of the items which are sold for the outdoor use.It appears that neither the Seller, nor the manufacturer will accept the invitation to take a corrective action in solving this problem.My expectation is for the Rome Manufacturer and the Yard Envy to replace at least the parts of the Iron Armillary Sundial assembly.I will follow up with the update on this item.

This base is a must for this sundial! Puts a central focus in your garden and looks especially nice if placed among flowers such as zinnias. Sturdy, well-constructed, and nicely-painted, this base looks great with the sundial pictured! The colors compliment each other; the darker green at the bottom giving warmth and strength to the overall feel, with the lighter green at the top calling your attention to the classic, simple and beautiful lines of the piece itself. Arrives well-packaged and connects easily to the sundial. My garden couldn't be happier and neither could I!!!

Purchased this along with the Rome RM1336 Armillary Sundial.You may want to put a couple of coats of Rustoleum paint on this item if you don't want it to rust. It's cast iron and the instructions indicate that it will rust if you don't take measures to protect it. Some people may want it to rust to give it that old look.It is threaded and ready to mount the Armillary Sundial that I mentioned.

I bought this Rome B19 Large Column Sundial Pedestal Base to support my Rome 1330 Brass Armillary Sundial with Verdigris Highlights. It does the job well and is very stable due to its weight. If you have little children be sure to place it in a position where they cannot push it over. I have mine in a flower bed so it is somewhat protected from inadvertent topling by children and adults. Highly recommended.
