An absolute MUST for hot summer days
4 YEARUPDATE 2022: It's been 4 years since I've purchased this portable AC unit. I've been using it everyday, when it's not summer I simply use the built in fan for air flow when I'm working and white noise when I'm sleeping. When it's blazing hot during summer I have the unit blasting cool air in my home office while I'm working and when I am done for the day and want to chill outside of my office I can run my central air and save A LOT of money on my electric bill. This is an absolute must buy if you're looking for some AC relief without breaking the bank. I will without a doubt buy a brand new one the moment this thing breaks down on me but it's been going strong for 4 years now and I still can't see it breaking anytime soon!ORIGINAL REVIEW:The central air in my house is broken and it would cost me nearly $7,000 to fix it so I decided to pass and buy this portable air conditioner and it gets the job done for a far less price. It’s only been a couple of days since I’ve used this thing and it’s been a LIFE SAVER. It gets up to 110F where I am and this ac unit cools down my room within minutes! I set it to turn off after 1 hour to save energy. I don’t expect this thing to cool down my entire living room but I always go to my room after work and I’m satisfied so far. My only complaints is the less than helpful instruction manual to set this up but you can get an idea on how to install this thing from YouTube, my other complaint is that it’s fairy loud but honestly the benefit far outweighs the cons so it gets 5 stars in my book. I’ll be sure to update my review if I encounter any problems, but as of now I’d highly recommend this unit if you want to beat the summer heat every year.UPDATE 08/19/18: It has been about 2 months since I’ve bought and used the unit now and I still stand by what I said about this device, it is a LIFE SAVER! My area has been consistently hot all summer with temperatures ranging from 99F - 107! And not once did I ever feel the summer heat indoors. This was definitely worth the purchase and is an amazing investment for future summers to come.UPDATE 05/17/21: It has been 3 years since I’ve owned this portable air conditioner and I firmly believe this is by far one of my greatest investments. It has reached upwards of 119 degrees where I live over the past 3 years of owning this AC unit and it’s been a LIFESAVER. I do not regret buying this and I can say with full confidence I would immediately buy a new one should this one fail; as things stand however, I don’t see it failing anytime soon!

Thank god it works
I bought an Amazon basics branded portable ac because it had one day delivery and the compressor would not turn on at all, so I returned it and bought a b&d. I already owned a b&d mini fridge second hand and it runs great. I let my new unit sit up unplugged out of the box for 6 hours (8 hours is the sweet spot but the suggest 24 hours) ran so cold last night I used a blanket for the first time in weeks. Keeps my whole 450 sqft apartment cool all the way to the farthest point in the bathroom from unit. Easy set up & really cheap.

Don't buy this AC
I purchased the 10,000 BTU version of this on June 12, 2023. I like my office being colder than the rest of the house, so I thought that this would be an ideal purchase. On July 20, 2023 I noticed that the unit would beep twice and shutdown for no apparent reason. It would run for an hour and then shut off. I ran through every troubleshooting theory I could think of: check the water tank, clean the filter (it wasn't dirty), try a different location to rule out ventilation issues (single hose AC unit so it creates a vacuum and needs proper ventilation to take in the warm air in the room), and a different outlet. After doing all of these things, the problem still occurs.I reached out to BLACK+DECKER for warranty information as it is clear this is a defective unit and I received this email back -**We want to apologize for the inconvenience that you are experiencing with your Portable air conditioner. I will be happy to assist you.The product you are referring to is handled by a specialized team. They would handle all inquiries requesting warranty, literature, or replacement parts regarding this product.I would also like to provide you with their direct contact information for future reference. Here is the contact information:W ApplianceEdit: Amazon won't let me post their company phone numberEdit: Amazon won't let me post their company email address (Equity Brands email)**After being provided with this information, I thought that it was odd that the email domain "equitybrands.com" was different from the company name "W Appliance."I researched both of the names only to find out that they're the same company, except "equity brands" has such poor reviews with the BBB that they registered themselves under a different company name "W Appliance" which, unsurprisingly, has just as many negative reviews on BBB, Google, Reddit, and a few other review based platforms that I discovered. It seems W Appliance/Equity Brands has a history of taking possession of products to fix/replace and then never sending the repaired/replaced unit back. Additionally, I saw several reviews of people reporting their unit has been in the process of being "repaired" for over 2 years without being fixed/replaced.After the extensive research I've done to determine if it would be worth me contacting BLACK+DECKER's "specialized team" per the abundance of negative reviews, I've concluded that it would be less of a headache to simply buy a new product from a reputable brand such as Whynter, which I've used in my garage for 4+ years without any issues whatsoever.Very disappointed to see how poorly the quality of BLACK+DECKER products have become.

Unit works great, cooled down a small room during a heat wave superbly..but install kit is flawed.
This air conditioner exceeded my expectations, which were low for a portable unit as I'd never used one before. I'm in the middle of a broiling summer in the San Fernando Valley, with outdoor temps well over 100. My 2 bedroom apartment unit had been furnished with 1 measly wall AC, tucked away in the corner of a living room. The living room was comfortable but not cool, the bedrooms were unusable and I had taken to sleeping in the living room for days. I was fed up. However, I am not handy and was intimidated by trying to figure out how to address sliding windows so a portable unit seemed like the ideal solution. More expensive, but at least I could install it on my own. Unfortunately, the install was the worst part of this AC. The kit is poorly designed- my window was in the 30" tall range so the shortest piece (with the vent) was too small, but the extension pieces were too big so they would have obstructed the vent. The instructions only advised to cut to fit- how the heck do I cut this plastic? I don't own a saw.So I improvised in desperation and cut some thick cardboard from the box to fit the gap and bought some foam tape (the included foam was too wide for my window frame as well) to seal everything up. In time, I will likely cut some plexiglass for a stronger solution to this. After this hurdle, I have to say everything else has been wonderful. My (admittedly small) bedroom is now the coolest room, most comfortable room in the whole place and I had the best sleep after hooking this up. I actually had to turn it down because I was freezing by the midnight! Even in the height of the heat today (over 100), my room has not gone over 75 internal temp. Combined with a ceiling fan, this room is crisp and cold. It's not quiet but I would rather have this noise than be sweating and miserable. Plus the unit is easy to move with wheels when it's winter time. My expectations for cooling were exceeded with this machine definitely!

Solid
I bought this back in June of 2023, and it’s been with me to over three different apartments, and I’ve only used it for the AC setting, and it’s been perfect. I don’t think it goes below 65 degrees, but for every bedroom I’ve been in, it makes it freeze. It’s not powerful enough to completely cool a 500sq ft apartment imo, but it can make it drop a few degrees if you’re trying to cool a space that big, just not below 70 degrees. Very easy to use. I like it.

Does The Job!
Love It! Saved Us from this crazy heat wave. Made noises during the first few days but somehow worked it out & no more noise! Definitely getting another!

It does NOT even keep a 300 SQ room cool its only 78 outside & I am sweating, it also LEAKS
UPDATE:DO NOT BUY THIS UNIT! I made the mistake of not following the reviews & there are a lot of reviews talking about the leaks.. After 2 months I noticed water all over my bedroom, thank goodness I have tile floors OR I would be all over Black & Decker. I cleaned it up not knowing exactly where it came from & continued on using it.. 2 weeks later I see water all over my floor again. OK now I am getting ticked off. I opened the bottom drain & nothing came out, no water at all. That is how the unit is supposed to work. WELL I recapped the bottom drain & opened the center drain. Only to see water pouring out. I immediately shut the drain, got the hose "which is too short" & drilled a 5/8th inch hole for the drain pipe, SEE PHOTO.Now understand I am using the AC in COOL not DehUmidifier & when using DehUmidifier mode you must attach the continuous drain. WELL AGAIN I am using it in COOL mod & yet the water is filling up a 96 ounce pan every 3 hours, comes to 3.5 gallons of water just over night & its coming from a place there should be NO WATER. OK so they are sending me a new one & actually I don't want it. After reading the reviews again, this seems to be a VERY COMMON ISSUE with this unit.. I guess I have no choice BUT to take the new one they are sending BUT if I see even 1 ounce of water again I am forcing B&B to take this back & refund my money.. At which point I will buy a second Midea just for the bedroom. This review is tricky, I had another brand "starts with an M" for my 800 sf living room that makes my room freezing. BUT I didn't want to spend that much for my bedroom which isd 350 sf.I must start with I live in S Florida where summers are just intolerable.. My building will not allow window AC units for insurance reasons so I needed to buy 2 portable AC units. My 2 ton central air is just not enough to cool down my place in the summer. After 5 years of summer suffering I bought 2 portables.,This Black & Decker 10K is OK & I mean just ok, see my UPDATE REVIEW ABOVE! . It does Cools down the room & makes it freezing during the night.I do have 2 issues:1) First issue is the Blue lights in the control panel, at night it is like a bright night light, way to bright to sleep, so I had to take a towel to cover the top so as to keep my room dark.2) I have a sliding glass door in my bedroom I do not have a window. So I needed an 8 foot sliding door panel for the exhaust, Yep I have 8 foot sliding door.. the one with this unit only goes to about 60 inches or so.. I still needed 30 inches to cover so I took 2 USPS priority mail boxes & taped them to the door to get my complete exhaust panel to work.. In the photos or video you see what appears to be open air on the right sides, those are covered with 2 inch wide clear packing tape to be sure no hot air gets out..See attached photos.I did a ton of research because I did not want to spend as much as I did for the living room unit.OVERALL there are better out there depending on what you need & your budget! I have not had this long enough to say how well it stands up to daily use..Maybe I will come back next spring and add durability. I will say this, can keep my CENTRAL AIR at 80 degrees all of the time & my electric bill has gone down over $3/day1

This a/c was definitely worth it.
I have always bought black and decker because of its quality. I recently decided to buy another brand twice and they did not work. This a/c works phenomenal! It is easy to assemble and the air is super cold! Very happy with my purchase wish I would’ve bought this earlier when unneeded it the most. It’s so cold we had to turn it off
