I use it with my DirecTV swim unit. It doesn't excellent job find not only tweaking the satellite signal for me but also letting me know that my swim unit output is working but cause if it does not this unit will not light up. Plan to purchase a backup just in case someone walks off with the one I have

First of all, I have been setting up Satellite Dishes since 1984 - big dishes and smaller ones once they took over the market. I have installed at least 200 or so small dishes. The only reason I bought this meter is due to my Birddog Ultra battery went bad. There are none to find for a replacement. If you know of any please let me know. So I bought 2 cheaper meters/finders including this in line one. Figured one would work. But nope!!! Neither one would give me signal variations during my install. Chinese junk!!! I ended up using a $4.00 inline meter I received in a kit about 15 years ago. It is a junk meter as well but it works enough to give you indications. The Satellite Industry is getting bad. Tech support is bad. Companies are still selling Birddog Ultra's without a way to replace batteries at a inflated price. Can not get good customer support! How are you suppose to call for help with no reception? Bunch of crap and they selling crap instruments.

Took a little while to figure out operation. But it did work as expected.

I had to do a DIY repair to my old analog dish - replacing a damaged LNB - and I wanted a meter to both check that the dish was pointed properly, that signal strength was good and to verify that the receiver was providing power... this meter works with analog sats and LNB - it's powered by the receiver and it's easy to use... I may not need this thing again unless we move but it was worth buying even for a single use situation. I imagine this would be everyday useful if you are camping or living mobile and just can't not have sat tv

It works OK....but I wish I would have bought an analog one. 1. The compass doesn't work at all. I can make north face any direction I want to because it really doesn't rotate. 2. The beeping is great and give you a general idea of what's going on without looking at the meter. 3. Even after adjusting the meter, it seems as though the Guage is all or nothing. It'll jump for 67% to 99% but not go anywhere in between. It'll be begged at 99% during 5° of rotational adjustment. I ended up just finding the low end and high end where the beeing completely stopped and then adjusting so I was in the middle of the two. This is why I think the analog Guage may be more accurate in fine tuning.

I had to add review, after testing the product on my back patio, while switching between my home-mounted dish and my portable Slimline-3 dish for RV camping. I am thinking, but would appreciate other input, that the squealer tone (since DTV receivers dropped the audible tone) is pretty close to useless. The instruction sheet says that you can adjust the thumbwheel to arrive at the threshold of a tone (four levels of attenuation), then tweak the HD dish vernier (screw thread) adjustments. The tone is expected to gain in volume as you tweak the dish Azimuth and Elevation with tiny changes .Also you have no idea if you are actually pointed at the DTV 101 Sat - you still have to rely on the OSD for that info. Does not work as you might expect, as the thumbwheel is waay to coarse in its threshold setting. This product is close to worthless for HD alignment, and I will return to my wife screaming out the RV window for the 101, 99 and 103.

Wow. So easy to use. Had to take dish from roof for repair. Decided to relocate dish on a pipe to stop future rood damage. This device allowed me to lock in the signal in less than 60 seconds. I remember the old analog versions form the 80s and 90s - a true pain. Just be very aware of the attenuation dial on the right side. It is too easy too bump and move and then you wonder where's the signal. Also be aware that homes with metal siding can reflect the signal into the device making it difficult to use. I found it best to place the unit at the rear behind the dish to block stray signals.
