Big Blocks = Less Frustration
My young kids like coloring with pointed crayons and colored pencils, but get frustrated when trying to fill in big areas of sky or grass with a fine/pointed tip - it takes too long and eventually they tire out before they finish their picture. These crayons are the perfect solution for coloring large areas fast. Not to mention, they have intense color saturation and a nice, natural, beeswax smell. Stockmar are probably my favorite crayons, with Faber-castell beeswax sticks being a close (more affordable) second.

... at her waldorf school and i thought she would enjoy a set for home
Got these for my 7 year old- she has a set at her waldorf school and i thought she would enjoy a set for home, too.these block crayons are awesome and all crayon brands should make this style.they do so much that normal crayons can't do. of course, they cover more area quickly, which is nice and comes in handy often. but they are more than that. there is a big, med, and small edge- "papa bear" side running the length, "mama bear" side runing the width, and "baby bear" side running the depth. They of course each make a different sized line of color which can have different effects on borders or designs. I find myself using them often and I like being creative with just using them to draw borders and lines.I do recommend the set of 16, however, if your child is much of an artiste! the set of 8 would be fine for a preschooler, but my 7 year old does appreciate the larger set, which we very soon bought her and gave this set to her 4 year old brother.yes they are pricy, but they are worth it, especially since you can do so much with these that you can't do with stick crayons. they are great for all ages, and in particular preschoolers just starting to draw and color. I think drawing the borders, and wide lines, with these block crayons, helps improve dexterity and hand-eye coordination in a way that holding a regular crayon pincer-grasp style just does not accomplish. And yes, the colors are very rich and vibrant, too! Much more beautiful than crayola! They are also extremely sturdy and will last for a few years. I know our friends have had theirs for as long or longer. As a small side note, I would encourage the children to use these as they are intended, on their edges, and not color with the corner like you would a stick crayon. When they color on the corner, it wears down the edge and if one did that very often, they kind of lose their intended effect. Either way they are still really sturdy and last a long time, just something I have personally noticed so I encourage my daughter to switch to her stick crayons when she wants to color with a pointed crayon and save the block crayons for borders, coloring large areas, etc.

smaller than expected, but perfect for toddler and adult hands alike!
I've heard so much buzz about these crayons from Montessori blogs and art websites, that I finally decided to try them when the price got down to $18.99. I have a 1 year old who's just learning to color, and I wanted something for her that was easy to hold, had great color saturation and transferability (so she wouldn't have to push too hard to actually get a mark on the paper), as well as something that wouldn't break. So far, these crayons have fulfilled that and more. They have a dreamy, saturated-but-still-translucent color to them. They transfer to the page effortlessly, yet the crayon never seems to show any wear (awesome!). I was a bit surprised at how small they were--they're not tiny, but I guess I was expecting something the length of a pack of gum, whereas these are 45% shorter than that (so, imagine something a little more than 1/2 the length of your average pack of gum--the old fashioned, long, thin sticks-of-gum kind). They're actually an awesome size, though, as I discovered when I and my daughter started using them--they're very easy and comfortable to hold and to use from any angle (using the corners, sides, etc).My daughter can easily hold them and since there are no annoying paper wrappers or easy-to-break-off ends/points, she gets more immediate, positive feedback when she puts the crayon to paper. I'd previously been using some $1 crayons with her, and they required so much force and coordination to get color onto the page that she got annoyed with them very quickly. The crayons come in a beautiful, perfectly sized tin, perfect for gifting (I've since given these as gifts).I can't recommend these more highly--the colors are great, they're amazingly fun to use, and they last and last and last....though it took me over a year to get up the nerve to spend this much on crayons, I'm SO glad that I did!

Beautiful crayons
Lovely crayons. Their colour is very bright and they slide beautifully. My child is too young and they still look to delicious for him to use them properly but I can see they will last.
