Can I connect my phone?

Provide more detail. The bass unit only streams audio from whatever device is connected to the main Roku. It is just a wireless bass amplifier. Why do you want to connect your phone? If you are mirroring or casting from you smart phone it might have the audio from a phone call but that would depend on whatever your app is. Sorry the bass unit is not intended for phone audio.

Will this work with a Roku ultra streaming box?

Hello! No, this Wireless Bass only works with Roku Audio, not Roku players or other sound systems. You'll need to have a Roku Streambar, Roku Streambar Pro, or Roku Wireless Speakers.

Can it be place on its side?

Hello! There are many factors to consider when finding the perfect placement for your Wireless Bass. While it's certainly possible to place the bass on it's side and still receive the audio frequencies, please know that this can negatively affect the quality of the sound, based on your home setup and audio preferences. Roku through firetv? don't have any roku products, just the channel on my firetv, would this subwoofer still work with my tv and vizio sound bar?

Unfortunately, I don't believe the Roku Slim Subwoofer will work with any other brand of soundbar. I also own a Vizio TV and ViZio soundbar, and I researched this before buying the Roku Slim Subwoofer for another TV. If you want/need to add a soundbar to another brand of TV (Vizio, Samsung, LG, etc.) you can buy and install the very compact Roku Streaming Soundbar first, and then add the Roku Slim Subwoofer. It connects wirelessly (by bluetooth) to the Roku Streaming Soundbar. The Streaming Soundbar is, in essence, a Roku Box (similar to a Roku Ultra device). It contains the Roku software that supports all the Roku channels. You just plug the soundbar into an HDMI port, turn it on, follow the prompts, and you're good to go. Once that is set up, it will recognize a Roku Slim Subwoofer and pair with it automatically. I have several other Roku devices and, in my opinion, Roku is an excellent company and their products are extremely simple to set up and use. Their customer service is second to none. (And, no..., I do not work for Roku!)
