Great VOIP Landline
I bought this for my mother who never remembers to charge her cell phone. I set up her cell to forward to a Google Voice number when her device is "unavailable," so when the phone dies, this phone rings. It has built-in Wi-Fi, so it works anywhere that there is signal and a power outlet. For $50, it is a great value. It has lots of features which can be configured intuitively; I did not use a manual the entire time I worked to configure this phone, although, I use an obihai200 at home, which I configured years ago, so I had some previous experience with setup. If you are technologically illiterate, I would recommend that you find someone who is savvy to help you set one of these up OR look up some videos on Youtube. Pros: -You can make free domestic calls using Google Voice. You can also configure the phone with other providers. -The sound on this is fantastic. -Speakerphone works well -It has many mounting and positioning options (wall, flat, tilted almost vertical and tilted almost flat) which were easy to configure. -There is a set of 6 buttons on both sides of the screen which you can assign to different lines OR you can set up for speed dialing numbers - I set my mom's up for speed dialing the people she speaks with the most. -Build quality feels on par with your typical professional grade plastic office phone. -There is a lot of room for customization on this thing -You can easily set up multiple lines on it. -There is a port on the back for using a headset, like the ones they use in a call center - could be nice if you are on the phone a lot. -It supports Wifi (mentioned above) and Ethernet, so you have plenty of connectivity options. It even supports power over ethernet! Wow! Cons: -It doesn't have a whole lot of ringer options. The few that are there are lackluster and boring, but I guess it is fine because this is just a phone. There are two USB ports on the back and I assume you could use them to put additional ringers on the device. -Phonebook setup pulls ALL of your contacts over Bluetooth from your phone. ALL of them. There isn't an easy way to mark a bunch of contacts to be imported; I also didn't find a way to select multiple contacts to be deleted - I had to delete them individually after the import. This made setting up the phone book tedious. -The screen is bright blue and stays on. There is a screensaver option, but I didn't mess with that - I'm just complaining because the bright blue screen is still BRIGHT BLUE at night. I'll see if the screensaver helps. -The buttons on the keypad don't light up. Easy to miss these in the dark, especially when looking at the bright blue screen makes it even harder to see the buttons in the dark. It became an issue when the GV call screener required my mom to press 1 to accept the call - I had to turn this off because she kept having a hard time finding the 1. -There is not a whole lot of information online about this specific model (OBi2182). Not many Youtube vids, not much from the manufacturer, not much at all. I still like it, but if you have an issue, I wouldn't know what to look up first. -The Obihai Obi200 series devices are being discontinued soon, and that worries me, because it makes me wonder what the long-term support of this product will be, since the Obi200 seems to be a popular device and they are planning to flat out drop it. I'd say it was the gateway drug for me to buy this product though, because the Obi200 is fantastic. The phone is Polycom branded, so perhaps the unexplained relationship between Polycom and Obihai is the issue. -You cannot plug in another phone (or plug this into an empty outlet on your house and use this the way the Obi200 would be used to connect multiple phones to a VIOP service) and use this phone as a switch - I was hoping that the auxiliary port was for this, but it doesn't seem to be the case. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this would be a killer feature, because it would replace the need for the soon to be obsolete Obi200 with a very capable host phone. I only bring this up because the devices are closely related and it seems like the capability could be easily implemented. Things you should know: -You have to pay extra (to a service provider) for 911 support on a VOIP phone - this is something you understand before you find yourself in an emergency needing to call 911 but not being able to because you didn't know. Now you know. -The phone is wide. It takes up about the same amount of space as an igloo playmate lunchbox. This makes the layout of the buttons nice and comfortable, however, it doesn't do you any favors if you don't have the space. Edit: December 6, 2023 I still like this product and we still use it consistently without any issues.

Excellent in Every Way
We purchased this unit to replace a Polycom IP phone that had started spontaneously re-booting. Several findings to consider: 1. Ease of configuration: whether you have SIP trunks, an IP PBX or use Google Voice, configuration is so easy with Obihai products, especially as compared to Polycom (who recently purchased Obihai) as to be almost beyond belief. Lesson learned: as soon as you plug in your unit, point your browser to obitalk.com and set up an account. The web client configurator is especially well thought out and pushes configuration changes instantaneously to your phone. When your phone acquires an IP address, you dial **5 [plus a four-digit number from obitalk.com] and, voila, it is registered with Obihai. The basic device configuration covers most setup requirements. If you need to geek out, there's an expert interface as well. Obihai offers a range of provisioning options to simplify a company-wide deployment, for example. Also, these phones reboot VERY quickly, so configuration changes are not a day-long exercise. 2. 'Low level considerations': I recall assessing telephonic options some years back and a value-added reseller told me that, for most people, the 'low-level considerations' ended up trumping most other features on a phone. Thus audio clarity, volume, physical interface etc. typically outweigh other considerations. In this regard, I can report that the Obi2182 offers exceptional call quality and ease of use. 3. Google voice: working with the GV API is no picnic. On the other hand, free US calls, no monthly charge for a number, and very inexpensive international calling are compelling positives. As near as I can tell, the Obihai products may be the only hardware option that is certified for GV interoperation. Kind of a big deal if you're a Google Voice/Hangouts user. 3. Technical support: while this is usually assessed in terms of an absence of negatives, that metric does not do the team at Obihai justice. When I set up my unit, I had a nagging issue: mixing Google Voice mixed with IP PBX registrations on a SIP trunk Asterisk server caused the Google Voice registration to fail. Obihai tech support took over my phone, diagnosed the problem, and pushed a new firmware version. I have the sense that they wrote the new version specifically to solve this problem. Now THAT is some serious tech support. My one fervent hope is, since Polycom acquired Obihai, that they won't 'fix' it. Otherwise, if you're considering a new business class VOIP phone, look no further. There really is no way to improve on the Obihai experience.

Worked, mostly when I first got it. Now an awkward paper weight.
This product did work when I bought it....mostly. It would connect calls but during a five minute call it would blank out for ten seconds at a time. No hearing, no talking and then back like nothing had happened. That is every single call over two or three minutes. I tried calling tech support for the company after a long hold I finally got someone on the phone and the answer was. Oh we don't handle that phone let me transfer you to the right department then it is back to the exact same hold queue. I realized they were not going to support it. It's a nice looking phone and some of the features work well when you work from home. Now it just stopped working period. No reason. Just stopped. When you work from home a phone is the most important tool outside of your laptop. Not having a reliable phone was bad but workable. No phone at all for an IP phone less than two years old is a joke.

Performs well at a great price point. FREE Landline service no hidden costs (except 911 option)
Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) is an alternative to traditional telephones, and this unit works perfectly using your home WiFi and a free VOIP phone number you can request from Google voice. I have a severe hearing loss, and am unable to understand conversations without hearing aids. This phone has adjustable volume for both the handset AND the speakerphone, and is capable of amplifying conversations to the levels that I can clearly understand them WITHOUT having to wear my hearing aids, that is a huge plus for me. In addition, the price of these has come down to a level that was compelling to me. Seemed like a great value for money as other reviewers have said here, and couldn't agree more. Setup was a bit tricky - you first must register the phone with the company's website (address is in the quick setup guide). Then, if you are not going to connect to your Ethernet and want to use your Wi-Fi network, you must DISABLE Obi WiFi Setup Mode in the handset's settings screen. If you don't you will NOT be able to connect to your home WiFi network. Other than that, setup was reasonably easy. Importing your contacts from your cellphone is possible, though I was not able to figure out how to DELETE any unwanted contacts once I had imported them. You can link up to 12 telephone lines, which is not something that a home user like me needed. I got my free telephone number from Google Voice, and so my basic landline service is totally free (except for the phone cost). There are other companies that provide emergency e911 address verification for a small annual fee, you can search the web to find out more. The manufacturer also offers this service when you register your phone at their website during your initial setup. Cost is about $25 per year, I think $2 a month is reasonable for the security of proper 911 operation but this is totally optional. So I have two lines, one is my all-around basic line, and the other is EMERGENCY 911 verification. In the phone setup, you can indicate the second line that is only for emergency use, so the phone 'knows' and auto-switches if you dial 911. You are provided a 'test' number to prove your 911 service is active and address is correct when you sign up for the annual e911 emergency service, but this is up to YOU, if you don't want to add that functionality you don't have to. I am very satisfied with my purchase of these phones, only small complaint is the keys do NOT light up at all. The display screen is color and you can even import personal photos of your kids, pet, girl/boy friend, etcetera if you wish. I keep the screens turned off when the phone is not in use. The SCREEN does 'light up' when you pick up the handset. There is a phone directory that you press the number keys to find people, for example "BOB" you would press key '2' which has ABC on it. "DON" you would press key '3' which has DEF on it, and so forth. This is pretty simple. ON the phone base there is a Directory key,. you press that first, then choose the number keys as described here. Or you can use the arrow keys on the phone base. Because you can access your WiFi network in lieu of needing to plug into your Ethernet router, these phones can be placed anywhere you have an AC plug. The AC/DC adapter is INCLUDED with your purchase, but no wall-mount plate is in the box. To me, this is a very compelling product, and I am very happy I now have something that meets my needs so well. Recommended!

Google Voice - Excellent Voice Quility
I purchased this phone due to the ability to have it use my Google Voice phone number. After setting up my VoIP vLAN on my UDM-Pro, and configuring a Unifi Switch port to use said vLAN and POE, the phone was ready on my side. Learned I had to create a Polycom OBiTalk account to configure the phone. Made that, put info in my Keepass. Setting up GVoice in the Polycom OBiTalk website was easy due to a nice wizard they have for it. Once that was setup, the website was able to communicate with the phone and configured it. Since then: - I have been impressed with the voice quality on this phone. Granted I have a 1gbps down / 1gbps up fiber connection to Internet. - This phone will usually ring before the GVoice app on my cell phone does. {I actually like this} - Setup a quick dial to my mum, it works wonderfully. Just hit one button and it calls her. :) Semi - Con: ** Not the fault of the phone ** - GVoice Enterprise does not support this phone and thus my work google voice number did not work on it. It appears that GVoice Enterprise supports very specific phones only. As a work-around, and with permission from work, got my Work Polycom GVoice phone and brought it home. Setup another port on a switch to use the VoIP vLAN and POE. Plugged in the work phone and it just "worked". - Have not been able to setup T-Mobile's VoIP (Wifi Calling) to use this phone {yet}.

Best speakerphone!
I also own an OBI1062 and an OBI202. Before purchasing the OBI1062, I did a lot of research to find a great speakerphone to plug into the OBI202 device which is usable with any traditional landline phone. I finally settled on moving to the OBI1062 and it was the best decision I made, it has been an absolutely awesome phone (and still is). I purchased the OBI2182 for a different room, but have ended up making it my primary office phone. My observations thus far: * The picture on Amazon showed 'OBI' being the brand on the front of the phone, but the one I received shows 'Polycom'. Not going to lie, this was disappointing, there's history with the OBI brand which I'm sad to see erased. * It is quite a bit larger than the 1062, it does take up more space on the desk. But the screen is bigger by almost an inch, it looks amazing. It's quite easy to customize the background (I use a family picture), it makes me happy every time I look at it * Overall the phone is more attractive with sleeker buttons, rounded corners, metal accents, etc. In case you are wondering, the mute, speakerphone, headset, and other buttons thankfully do light up (I couldn't tell before purchasing) * Obitalk is still used to configure the phone, which has been very smooth setting up Google Voice for both the 1062 and the 2182. * Setting up the quick dial buttons is super easy on the 2182, you just press the button for the first time and input right from the phone. * The inputs (USB, ethernet, etc.) on the back are more accessible on the 2182 due to the sleeker design * The speakerphone is amazing on 2182 as well as the 1062. * The user interface is very similar to the 1062. * There was an issue on the 1062 with buttons 'sticking' (meaning I would hit a number once but it would register twice in the call, I had to be very careful when dialing numbers directly). I haven't seen the issue yet with the 2182. * The official datasheet mentions that the 2182 supports instant messaging apps, I'm assuming as a soft phone. But I haven't figured out how to use it. I just use my Plantronics Savi 740 headset to switch between desk phone and PC and mobile phone. Overall, very happy with the 2182!

Home phone
Got this for my house and it is well worth the money. Went onto the OBi website an it would not connect through google voice. Then it said there was a firmware update and after that it worked great. This is a sweet phone with a lot of options and configurations. I have it connect to a vlan with wifi in my kitchen and the sound quality is crystal clear..I like it so much i might get another one.
