Salton THP-528 Electric Double-Coil Cooking Range, Stainless Steel

We got this unit because we were doing and eleven week kitchen renovation. We used to have electric in the kitchen and so this is not too much different even though you have limited (2) burners. One burner is larger than the other so that you can use a larger pot. Since we are doubled up in electric outlets till our reno is done I have limited the time using both coils but you could easily do both if needed.There are many safety features which I like. I only plug it in when in use to prevent and accidental turn on. The unit comes with a RED light which indicates that the unit is turned on. There are two separate GREEN lights one for each burner so you realize a burner is turned on. The dial for each burner is well designed. It only goes in one direction "on" so if you can turn it you are turning it on. There is a stop at the off place so you cannot dial past the off onto the highest temperature setting. When turning the dial it has about 1/4 of the dial that you turn past before getting to the first setting #1. The hottest setting is #5. I usually cook on #3. I don't like to burn my frying pans by having the heat too high.Someone complained that it took a long time to heat up. I don't agree. It is pretty quick heating up. Now if you had a huge 8 qt pot filled with water then I would expect it to take a while to get hot. But my frying pan heats up quickly to do my eggs to perfection at over easy.The surface is pretty easy to keep clean except for the space in the center under the coils which is a small area. Because this is a portable unit the coils are solidly connected to the base. You need to try a little to clean between the coils in the center but otherwise it is easy to clean.I would recommend it.

Hard to control the temperature but works well. Heats up quickly and stays hot. Love it.

I had a lot of problems with hotplates lately. Just threw out a really expensive one that was defective. Had to return several that were much more expensive because they did not function properly. This one is fantastic all around, looks great, functions well, has a grounded plug and is pretty inexpensive. I bought 2, just to have one for future use. I am so pleased with this product! FYI I have been using electric hotplates for many years and in general there is very little control to be had over the accuracy of the temperature, no matter how expensive the item is! The reviews that say there should be more control or the product sould be discontinued obviously have not used electric hotplates before, and have an unrealistic expectation! This is a great product!!

This cooktop replaced a solid surface unit that failed after three years. I was surprised at how light weight this one was, but the rubber feet make it stable. The stainless finish is clean and professional looking, but I suspect that it will be hard to keep looking clean, because the removable coils require one screw to be removed first. I like that the hefty plug is grounded and that there is a light to indicate that it is connected. While the temperature dials are nicely tight without being stiff there is almost no temp below red hot. At the lowest point at which the power cycles off it stays off and with the slightest increase it heats to red hot and stays there. One thing to note is that the numbers on the dials are not accurate as painted, but the green light indicates when the burner is powered.

I just got the unit and was surprised that the large coil is 900W and the small one is 600W for a total of 1500W.The previous and only 1 reviewer gave it a 5* and I don't agree with it. Unit looks nice, well made, stainless steel top with three lights: One that shows connected to electricity and two to show when each burner is on.As far as cooking on it, it falls short for the large coil, and might as well forget it for the small one (good for simmering). Cleaning is difficult as the coils are non-removable and you'd have to unscrew the bottom to take them out. I'm going to time it for cooking and will be reporting on that later.

I use this to cook outside when I am also bbqueing. I particularly like the 2 different size burners. They are a little less hot than your stove burners but for camping or the back yard or even an extra burner for the Holidays it does a great job.

I bought this double cooking range for my office. We have a kitchenette and we cook our lunch very often. We used to have a single range but it was way slow. Then we bought this one. It gets so hot so fast that is impossible to control the heat. I put it at slow (which is number 1) and still goes super strong! I am not happy with that I think this is poor thinking of the manufacturer. You have to be able to control the heat. I know is hard on the electric ranges but this is completely out of control.
