Meet expectations
Jan 5 2025 update (about 1 week of use) The fan is quiet. I put the card intentionally under full load (99% utilization) running Topaz Photo AI Super Focus (beta), which lasted more than 26 minutes. I could not hear any fan noise; CPU load was low, so no CPU fan noise (AIO). I had to open the case, place my phone right under the card and record a long video in order to hear the faint noise. Power consumption was just over 200W; temperature never reached above 66C for the entire Super Focus operation. Original review This GPU is a replacement for an RTX 4060, which is not bad at all. Since photography is my main hobby and I also like to do editing. The recent capability additions in Photoshop and Lightroom as well as Topaz Photo AI rely heavily on the GPU, resulting in a need for a better GPU. Obviously, 4090 or 4080 would be great, they are just outside my willingness to part with my money. While 4070 Super is not cheap, it does represent a reasonable compromise between performance and cost. BTW, I must point out that I have never spent more than $300 on a GPU prior to this; so, this is still a considerable investment. Besides getting this GPU, I also need to upgrade to an 850W PSU. So, this complete package is not a small investment. Long story short, it meets all my expectations. Installation was straightforward. Many people reported difficulties with installing the power cable, I had absolutely no problem at all. I made a stupid mistake though. I have 3 monitors and expected to see all 3 monitors showed up; only 1 monitor came up. Very disturbed, even panic at this point. Then I realized I had not yet installed the driver, which I already downloaded. Everything worked after the new driver was installed. I left the Dual Bios switch at the "P" performance position, and it was not noisy at all. My CPU fan makes a lot more noise. No idea if performance would be worse at the "Q" position. In terms of performance, which is the main reason for getting this GPU, it really shines. LrC denoise took almost 30 seconds to denoise a 50 MB raw file using 4060; this 4070 Super only took 14 seconds on the same file. Topaz Photo AI completed most tasks almost instantly. I must also point out that the standalone Topaz Sharpen AI was CPU limited, but I stopped using it in favor of Photo AI. I have not encountered a reason not to like it, except perhaps the cost. If cost is not a major consideration, I highly recommend it. I am sure 4090 and 4080 are even better, I do suspect they are reaching limiting return status.

Best video card I've ever owned
I wanted to future-proof myself and upgrade from a 2070 Super but didn't want to spend a small fortune and this was the card that met my criteria. It almost defies logic that Nvidia is still launching new cards in 2024 with only 8 GB of VRAM so I went with the 4070 Super for the extra 4. This card also supports DLSS and frame gen and let me tell you it makes an enormous difference on some games. I can get well over 200+ FPS in many modern shooters at 1440p even with all the bells and whistles on, and with Ray tracing on I can still get 100+ FPS. Exactly what I wanted. This card runs a little hotter than my 2070 Super did so I tweaked the fans with the Asus GPU Tweak software to permanently run at 30% minimum. It's inaudible to me and keeps my temps from fluctuating and ramping up and down all the time. The default setting seems to be to not even run the fans until it reaches 60c+ which I didn't really like but that was easily corrected. With my tweaks I mostly hover around 60-63c at load with hot spot temps sitting around 70c, fantastic for a dual fan setup. Now let's be honest about one thing: you are definitely paying the Nvidia tax with the price of this card. It is wild that a mid-tier GPU like this one costs over $800 CDN and it's unfortunate that's where we're at. Can you get a cheaper AMD card that performs just as well? Absolutely. Will it be stable? That's the real question. I was on the ATI/AMD bandwagon for years and years because they were always cheaper and got you 90% of the performance that Nvidia did but the constant frigging with drivers broke me down and I never went back. Are the drivers better now? Almost certainly. Did I want to try that out and deal with the potential hassle? Nope. I have had zero stability issues with this card or the Nvidia drivers the entire time I've owned it and that mirrored my experience with the 2070 Super. This is a premium card and they make us pay a premium price for it. If you're looking for a more reasonable priced card a 4060 (or a 3060ti or maybe even one of those Intel battle mage cards) are probably a better bet around $400 CDN. But the performance you get out of this card is way ahead of either of those and well under the $1100 CDN you'll be forking over for an 80 series+ card. If you're willing and able to pay extra this is a fantastic non-TI 4070 Super and one of the lowest-priced versions I've seen.
