Battle Angel Alita Deluxe Complete Series Box Set

Quality: The pages are glossy and white with very clear (high contrast) printing. The binding feels really good and the spine and signature seems durable so far; meaning opening the book to any page isn't accompanied by eerie cracking noises, and the book doesn't feel like it wants to shut itself while I'm reading it. The included art prints are nice, but it's a pretty modest extra. I definitely like the deluxe size of the set, but I can see it complicating things for some folks with smaller or shallower shelves. They're also not too practical for travel or portability, but awesome for home collections. (Comparative box set quality) I bought the Akira 35th Anniversary Box Set not too long ago, also from Kodansha, and it had a few things I really liked, but aren't necessarily objectively better. It had courser off-white paper, which felt nice (and smelled nice too), but I imagine the paper itself will age more quickly. The signature and paper quality also gave the edges of the paper a quality (staggered?) feel as well. The Akira books also had dust covers, but honestly I wind up feeling like I'm going to be bummed if/when I do anything to them. Lastly, the box itself was nicer, but not necessarily practical. This Alita set is much much easier to access on the fly. I'm slowly trying to build up a very solid sci-fi manga collection, and this is an awesome series to add to the mix. Next up is probably the Ghost in the Shell set.

Have been a big fan of just the O.V.A. for many years, and rushed to see the live-action film in theater. I'd seen plenty say that OVA is, very small chunk of original story, but I had NO idea how much I was missing or in what way. LOVED ❤️ it start to finish. First manga I ever read. Sale price is a steal. Big thick hardcovers, beautiful colored art, only trade-off really is the paper being more bleach white than the paperbacks, and this box is heavy as, some risk of damage in shipping, but mine was A-okay.

This is a great set, 6 oversized hardback deluxe books with glossy paper and color pages added which look great alongside the striking black and white artwork. Slipcase arrived undamaged and everything fits wonderfully and displays nice, as well as the extra 3 prints which surprised me with how they held up in person versus what I had seen in photos. It's a violent and beautiful story, immediately I had to show down and appreciate everything I was seeing panel to panel, sometimes going back and rereading certain pages and reviewing some of the kinetic action scenes. Excellent value since I got this on sale, already one of my favorite collections amongst all other manga. Highly recommend to anyone even slightly interested, I personally do not think you will be disappointed in the least.

After reading reviews on Amazon where multiple people received this in a beat-up condition, I was reluctant to order. But upon seeing the price had dropped- after having seen a couple of volumes of the hardcover deluxe edition in a store- I decided to go ahead and take the chance and see what I got. I feel I got lucky. After Amazon's history being that they started with books, it's hard to believe that they ship books today in such terrible packaging. This arrived packaged only in an ordinary cardboard box- just slightly larger than the contained box set- with no cushioning included at all. The outer box bears the signs of typical careless handling during shipping. Nothing too severe, but you can tell it got knocked around a bit (no surprise). In spite of this the contents are, fortunately, in good- albeit not perfect- condition. The plastic wrap on the box set was torn across the side where the books are slide in and out. One corner of the box bears an impact mark- which was significant enough to transfer to one of the contained books within. Excepting those 2 points, the contents appear to be otherwise flawless. Reviewing the product itself, the books are surprisingly heavy volumes- and large. They are almost identical in size to a standard comic book. I look forward to reading them, and expect to enjoy it! The box has some strange, dirty looking marks in side it. These clearly had to had gotten this way prior to leaving the manufacturer. It's not nice to look at, but it's only on the inside and won't be seen except at times when all the books are removed. 5 of the books each contain what was previously contained in 2 graphic novels. And here, I think they'd have done better to have used different cover art. As is, it is slightly confusing- as a quick look- for example at Vol. 1 Deluxe (containing both Vol. 1 & 2 of the standard version)- could easier be confused with the standard edition (since Vol 1 has the same cover art). I will remark that I do not feel like the individual marked cover price- $179.94 for the box set, or $29.99 per book individually- feels reasonable. However, at the present discounted price it is worth purchasing.

What you need to know: Battle Angel: ALITA is a great way to waste a few hours. Set in an 80's inspired cyber-punk world, jam-packed with exhilarating action sequences; we follow a cyborg amnesiac with a penchant for fighting the biggest baddy that she can find in the room. Unplug from your phone and check this manga out if you're looking to turn off your brain and enjoy some good-quality shlock. The art-style is great, the action is exciting, and the characters are complicated and flawed as all get out. Be prepared though: the manga is much more graphic than the PG-13 Hollywood adaptation. Be ready for lots of brains and missing limbs. Also, don't be surprised by the fetishistic representation of Alita. It's all pretty par for the course, being a manga and all. But, I can see how it could be off-putting for some. In regards to shipping and packaging; my order was delivered the following day (I live in Washington State though, so we have an Amazon warehouse right next to every Starbucks), which is always a bonus. The box-set was plastic wrapped and then placed into two cardboard packages. This double boxing made sure that the goods arrived in good shape, without a scratch or bent corner.

Se trata de la colección de Battle Angel Alita, con cinco tomos que narran la historia principal, con el añadido de un tomo más, con historias secundarias y complementarias a la principal. Además, incorpora tres ilustraciones en un formato duro tipo cartulina, con brillos, que son una pasada. Los tomos son de tapa dura, con una encuadernación y edición muy cuidada. El papel empleado es blanquecino, por lo que el contraste con el dibujo de tinta negro es magnífico y limpio. Algunas de las páginas aparecen a color, pero en su mayoría, son en blanco y negro. En cuanto al estilo gráfico, es de un elevado detalle, con trazos muy limpios, empleando técnicas de rallado, sombreado, trama... para dotar de volumen y profundidad a las escenas. El tamaño es adecuado, y que el tomo sea mayor al de los manga clásicos se agradece, porque así permite disfrutar más del dibujo. En conjunto, se trata de una edición muy cuidada con una alta calidad, tanto del dibujo, como el gramaje de los tomos, así como la edición e impresión de los mismos. Es una edición perfecta para aprovechar y descubrir a Alita, si no conocías nada de ella con anterioridad.

I've been a fan of Battle Angel Alita since the 90s; I already own the entirety of the original Viz run from 1994, as well as volume one of Gunnm in Japanese. Needless to say, I was excited to add this to my collection, so I'm sure you can imagine my disappointment when I opened the box and discovered the condition of the item I had spent nearly $200 dollars on. Remember that scene at the beginning of Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, when he's kicking the box down the hallway? This looks like someone had thrown Jim a couple bucks to reenact that scene. It's so bad that someone has used packing tape in an effort to keep it from falling completely apart. My 30 year old copies are in better condition than the product I received! How any order picker could possibly imagine that this was in an acceptable condition to send out to a customer is beyond belief. To be fair, however, in all the years I've been ordering from Amazon this is only the second major disappointment I've experienced. I've requested a return/replacement, so we'll see how that turns out. As for the series itself, it's great, so naturally it gets a 5 star review. I'm not going to give it a lower rating just because the product is in terrible condition. Alita should rightly be regarded as one of the greats in modern manga.

Le coffret est arrivé parfaitement emballé, sans aucun coin abîmé. Chaque tome était en état impeccable, rien à redire. J’ai acheté cette collection uniquement parce qu’il n’existe toujours pas de deuxième film Alita Battle Angel, et j’étais désespéré de découvrir davantage de cet univers. Je ne suis ni amateur de lecture, ni fan de mangas, et je n’aime pas spécialement remplir mon appartement de livres… mais la qualité de cette édition m’a vraiment surpris. Les volumes n’ont rien à voir avec les petits mangas « bon marché » dont l’encre vous noircit presque les doigts. Ici, on a des livres de belle facture, avec un papier propre, une finition soignée, et un rendu quasi premium. C’est bien sûr à 90–95 % en noir et blanc, dans le style japonais, à lire de droite à gauche. J’ai presque terminé le premier tome, et le plus intéressant pour moi est de voir comment les créateurs du film se sont éloignés de l’original pour réaliser un film que je trouve, personnellement, encore meilleur que le manga. Le film m’a profondément marqué et j’attends toujours avec impatience une suite au cinéma. Pour ceux qui aiment les mangas et l’univers d’Alita, ce coffret de grande qualité est un excellent choix. Pour ma part, je serais tout de même plus heureux de voir enfin un Alita Battle Angel 2 sur grand écran !

Stunning and intricate story line. Massive attention to detail in both the graphics and character development. Hugely enjoyable. Believe the hype that this could well be the best science fiction manga work ever.

Me toco poder leer esta obra hace varios años en formato digital, me encantó tanto que quise comprarla original y además tenerla en buena calidad, conseguí primero una edición de 9 tomos a un precio económico pero el formato era demasiado pequeño. Esta edición la deseaba desde hace mucho, no se porque lo pensé tanto la verdad, igual me preocupara que el tamaño siguiera siendo pequeño, no me quedaban claras las dimensiones por tomo.
