Ideal Bark Size, Healthy Roots
I used this premium pine bark mix to repot my orchid and results are well. The bark pieces are the perfect size. It's great for moisture control and root stability. Although the small bag is bit pricey, it's ready to use and clearly high quality. My orchid looks much happier now.

1 inch orchid bark pieces that look better than regular orchid bark and maintain good moisture.
I have a grocery store orchid plant with lovely speckled pink orchid blooms that I wanted to move to a larger clear acrylic plant pot so I could see the root system as it develops and to monitor moisture levels. The orchid bark from Gardenwise is ph stabilized Pinus radiata bark from New Zealand that is designed to last for a long time. It is also optimized to prevent root rot and maintain ideal moisture levels while draining quickly. The first thing I noticed is how uniform the orchid bark is. Each piece is about an inch; not the crumbly, small pieces that I originally used. This is especially important in a see through acrylic plant pot as crumbly small pieces would compact down and look more like dirt. You can see the difference in the photo that shows the regular orchid bark on the bottom and the Gardenwise NZ orchid bark on the top two thirds. The Gardenwise NZ orchid bark looks much better in a clear acrylic pot than regular orchid bark. I am happy with how this NZ orchid bark looks and performs, and my orchid plant also approves ๐ Highly recommended!

bad quality
Terrible bark quality, smells very bad, rotted all my orchids. Do not buy if you don't want to kill all your orchids.

As nice as the name brand, great quality
If you have used the name brand bark from New Zealand, you know that this is probably a bit less expensive, and I'm happy to say it is about similar quality. I think it really is from the pinus radiata and it came in a tightly sealed and sturdy bag, bone dry. Excellent condition for storage and shipping. No visible signs of mold or decomposition. The pieces of bark are what I would consider medium sized. The bark chunks are fairly uniform. There was almost no powder (waste filler) in the bottom of the bag. I'd recommend pouring over some boiling water and letting the chunks soak overnight before starting a repot. Otherwise the water will just run off when you water, hold absolutely no moisture, and maybe pull moisture from the plant's roots. This size bark would be perfect alone with a larger plant, or used as part of a mix. This seems like a really good quality product.

premium orchid bark perfect for repotting orchids
This ready to use pine bark from New Zealand is ideal for our orchid repotting needs, and ideal for overall plant health. It is pH-balanced and made for optimal drainage so as to prevent root rot. There was no mold present in our bag. This natural medium allows our orchids to dry out in between watering and is especially good for Phalaenopsis and Cattleya orchids that do not tolerate residual moisture. The pieces are good size and there is no other debris mixed in. There is a pleasant smell and two quart sized bag is priced competitively with other brands. We use this as a key component in our complex potting mix so this bag will last for some time, making it a very good value.

Perfect for Philodendrons!
This is a 2 quart bag of New Zealand Pinus Radiata Bark, orchid bark. The bark was smelled nice and was dry when I opened the bag (I've ordered other brands previously that have molded in the bag). The chunks of bark are pretty large, about the size of my thumb. This bark is great to create a potting mix for philodendrons and other houseplants that require good drainage. Pictured in the photo is a Jose Buono Philodendron that I repotted using the orchid bark in the potting mix. Worth the price and I would highly recommend for indoor plants, there is nothing worse than finding a great plant, only to discover root rot because the soil mixture did not allow for good drainage!
