Forever Shoe, The Altra Lone Peak 9
This is by far the best, all-around shoe for general use. The soles have great grip and traction on off-road surfaces. After 7-months of daily use, the tread still has lot of life which is a major benefit over other brands. The upper fabric is borderline waterproof so your feet do not get wet in rainy conditions, however, I have found that sometimes my feet would get hot. The best "feature" of the shoe is the large toe box area for wider feet so your toes are not being smashed together. I have 2 pairs currently, one of which is my Sunday best and the other is now reserved for yard work and outdoor ruck workouts. They are a great looking general purpose shoe with loads of color options. Toss your New Balances to the side, these are your new Dad shoes.I would personally not use this type of shoe for road running due to the limited cushion. In addition, this is a "zero drop" shoe which some may need to get used to the neutral/flat foot position.

Designed to allow the foot to work naturally. It really does work!
The wide toe box and zero drop design allows the foot to work as intended, naturally. Once you study the anatomy and function of the human foot, you’ll wonder why you ever wore shoes of a different design.Try them on and allow your feet to feel unconstrained, in their natural element. I’ve worn the Altra Lone Peak model low rise shoe like this one, as well as the high rise hiking boot style for many, many years at home and around the world. Durable, well constructed, and it just works for the human foot. Why all shoes aren’t designed like this is a curious curiosity.I strongly recommend visiting the Altra website to see and learn how each shoe model is designed for fit in the toe box, mid foot, and heel, as well as the amount of cushioning and drop, very important to your fit analysis.Other than a dress or casual dress shoe, Altra is all I wear, everyday. They just work. Believe me, your feet will thank you.You know, I should call Altra and ask them why they don’t make a casual dress shoe because when I’m standing for hours at some hob-nob function in a rather poorly designed casual dress shoe, by comparison, I miss my Altra’s, which give me far better fit and function. I can stand all day long in the things.

Perfect for bunions!!
Bought for my husband who has wide feet/bunions. He will buy no other shoe than Altra! 10/10. Plenty of toe room. Plenty of flexibility. Helps him walk without pain. He wears them often and the quality is great.

Extremely comfortable and versatile trail shoes
Everyone’s feet are different, but for me, the ALTRA Lone Peak 9's have been one of my favorite purchases ever for hiking and backpacking. The fit and shape feel very natural and comfortable. On my first outing, I hiked 60 miles with no break-in and didn’t get a single blister. I’m now well over 100 miles on them, and the wear has been minimal. They aren’t waterproof, but I actually prefer the breathability, they dry quickly and keep my feet cooler and less sweaty. The tread and grip are excellent, performing well across a variety of terrains. The all-black color is clean and understated, which I really appreciate compared to the loud colors of many trail runners.I even wear them for walking 18 holes of golf quite often. While I still wear my golf shoes when using a cart, it’s hard to go back to them after experiencing the wide, comfortable toe box of these shoes. Overall, I think they’re a versatile, comfortable, and high-performing shoe for hiking, backpacking, and everyday wear.

Comfortable, but pricey shoe.
I’ll start by saying that anyone who reads shoe reviews should take them with a grain of salt. Everybodys feet are different, and no two people will ever have the same experience with a particular shoe.I have “wider” feet. And by that, I mean that I can generally fit into a regular shoe with some slight discomfort, and they will usually stretch out to the point where they are ok to wear and don’t bother me. I prefer to get “wide” shoes when they are available. They just feel way more comfortable. With these, I got a size 12 Wide. They felt very comfortable right out of the box. I ended up doing a 12 mile hike in the White Mountains of NH the day after they were delivered on wet, gravely, steep terrain. Almost no break in period. I wore them around the house and ran to the super market the day I received them.No blisters. No discomfort. Very well made, stylish and durable shoe. The traction of the soles is decent, but not superb. The heels definitely don’t have a lot of traction of descents, and in general the sole doesn’t have great traction on wet rocks. It had rained heavily the previous night in the area I hiked, so everything was very wet.Overall, I think it’s a great shoe. A little pricey in my opinion. I don’t imagine they will outlast my Merrells as far as durability, but they’re a decent shoe to have in my collection. As a side note, if you’re looking to order the Maroon color, just know that they are almost more like a weird shade of dark purple. Not at all what I was expecting. I would have ordered black if I had know that.Included are before and after 1 hike pictures.

You get what you pay for
Altra Lone peaks are amazing. They are so comfortable and supportive with incredible traction! They are my husband's and my go to active shoe for everything now. I'm an avid hiker and found around my second pair that they don't need to be broken in. We backpacked the grand canyon in these straight out of the box. From personal experience, I can say they are also fantastic for foot conditions. I have found that they not only don't aggravate my bunions, but helped them shrink. I was starting to get plantar fasciitis, but have no signs of it now that I've worn these for years.

So far so good 🤡 honk honk
These shoes are pretty nice. I replaced the soles with the ones I had for better arch support. Have plenty of space for my toes. I wear these at a job where I'm either standing in one area, or going up, and down stairs for about 9+ hours, and they've been doing me pretty well. I did notice that they were squeaking, but then I just learned that If you just put baby powder in between the insole and the bottom the squeak will go away. Presently surprised with these shoes.I've only worn them for a a little over the week btw.If anyone has read this far please send out a good prayer for me 🤡

Great shoe
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5 – Perfect Trail Companion! The ALTRA Men’s Lone Peak 9 Trail Running Shoe is hands down one of the best trail shoes I’ve ever worn. From the moment I laced them up, I could tell these were built for serious comfort and performance. The wide toe box allows my feet to spread naturally, which makes a huge difference on long runs and hikes. The zero-drop platform feels balanced and promotes a more natural stride, especially on uneven terrain. The grip on these shoes is phenomenal — whether I’m running through muddy trails, loose gravel, or rocky inclines, the MaxTrac outsole keeps me stable and confident. The updated midsole cushioning strikes a perfect balance between softness and responsiveness, absorbing impact without feeling spongy. They’re also lightweight and breathable, which keeps my feet cool even on long summer runs. After several weeks of use, they’ve held up incredibly well — no signs of wear or breakdown, which speaks to the solid build quality.Overall, the Lone Peak 9 continues ALTRA’s tradition of durable, comfortable, and trail-ready shoes. If you’re a trail runner, hiker, or just someone who loves being outdoors, this shoe is a fantastic investment.✅ Pros: Comfort, grip, wide toe box, durability, balanced cushioning⚠️ Cons: Runs slightly large — consider half a size downHighly recommend for anyone who values comfort and stability on the trail!

Empfehlung!
