Works well
I bought this for my pregnant guppies. For the first guppy, I had no idea when she would deliver. I looked in the tank one evening and noticed tiny fry swimming all over. I quickly grabbed the breeder and netted the fry into it (just over 20 total). They were quickly contained and have been growing in it quite nicely since.I purchased another for my second pregnant guppy as the first was full of growing fry. Since I had an idea of when she would deliver, I went ahead and put her in it. She was actually in there for almost a week and although she wasn't thrilled, she was no worse for wear. When delivery time came the fry dropped to the bottom and were safe. She only had 7 and when she was done I just lifted the entire "V" with her in it and easily deposited her back into my tank. Unfortunately two of the fry were exceptionally tiny (I believe they were probably Endler's X's) and they DID go through the slits and are now gone. However if the side slits were any smaller, it would not be possible to clean debris from inside the breeder, or allow proper circulation. For those curious, the breeder actually just floats around in the tank. The two little flap looking things on the side are actually air chambers that keep it afloat. It's pretty clever, really. My two fit easily in my ten gallon; I could probably fit another, maybe even a fourth if I lined them all up sideways.

for all fish beginners
let me give you a breakdown what happen! just 2 days ago i had a feeling the female guppy was going to pop, i researched a ton of places and found this to be the most fitting given my 7 gallon tank. I purchased this with high hopes and it met some of those!the day the mom was giving birth i was freaked out because the fry would stay on top and not go to the bottom, the mom chased them in the tank and it got me worried so i took the mom out and put her into a white costco cup, the flexible ones. within an hour 20 frys popped up and continued to fill the cup, never once did the mom try eating them in the cup and continued to finish her birthing process.i think if i left the mom in the lee's two way guppy breeder it would of been a cleaner trip, losing a few baby fry.... if you are on the other hand paranoid and don't want to lose any of the frys try the white cup method. (2 white cups, pour them back and forth to empty out the fry while keeping the mother inside).

It Floats
This breeder solves several problems for those of us who don't quite trust suction cups to do their jobs. This enclosure simply floats around the surface of my ten gallon porcelain bowl all on its own. The plastic cover is not air tight (and why would you want it to be?) but secure enough. I've had it for a month and it has never sunk of its own accord. I might take a different attitude if I had a cascade type filter. But, my cannister outflow tube is well below the surface and even at its highest, never topples the breeder. I'm very happy with the product and can't wait to release my platy fry into the general population which, thanks to the 2-way guppy breeder, they seem anxious to join.

Found a way to"modify" it - now I love it
I did not had ANY luck getting females to birth in this. The birthing female guppies became very stressed when put in here. They felt trapped and vulnerable and did not birth one fry even after being left in here for a couple days. But when I removed her she dropped fry. Lesson learned. However it works great for raising fry once you catch them and get them in. You can monitor their feeding and growth. Instead of having the box float willy-nilly all over your tank, just press the side against the side of your tank and the pressure will make it stay put.*** I did a few modifications. Removed every-other side rail, drilled quarter inch holes all over the solid sides for ventilation, removed the cover and other extra parts, anchored the whole thing upside down with rocks, and put it on the bottom of my tank. The females give birth over it, and the fry learn to hide from the adults in here and can freely swim in and out between the rails and holes. Nature takes its course, I stay out of it, the mothers birth when they want and the fry are safe. (Now my problem is I have too many fish)

Just what I needed
First one arrived completely shattered, I contacted amazon and they sent a replacement right away, which arrived safely. This works just as advertised, floats in the tank. It has never sank on me, but sometimes has a tendency to float around with the water current. My bigger fish tank advantage of this and learned they can shove it around, so they think itโs a toy. I just a seaweed clip to clip the edge of the breeder to the edge of the tank to secure it now after my fish took the snail babies on a ride. Even my mystery snail babies, which hatch around the size of a poppy seed, are unable to escape this.

Beware of too large side slats and disappearing babies!
Purchased for a surprise bunch of baby fancy goldfish. I am a pretty amateur fish owner that ended up with some viable goldfish eggs accidentally and quickly purchased this breeder as a way to house them (in case they survived) without all the separate tank/filter setups people described in the quick research I did online. I read alllll of the reviews before I purchased this item, because I saw that some people had said the slats on the sides were too large and they lost some fish by them swimming/being sucked out of these holes. I was very concerned about this happening, but assumed that if some owners of newly born guppies had no issues, than my now several weeks old and similarly sized goldfish should be fine. I was very wrong - the first night I put the breeder in the tank, I lost at least 80% of the fish and several disappeared in the following days. Since I am not a pro at fish or breeding, it is possible that my lack of skill contributed - but I have NO idea how that could have happened. The fry that did not disappear out of the sides of the breeder seemed to do fine in there. It's a pretty sturdy setup and easy enough to drop food through the top. It can be stuck to the tank wall or float around freely and was not disturbed by the other fish investigating it. If it had not led to the 'disappearance' of a significant number of fry, I would have been very happy with the purchase.
