Metal plates: Comes in contact with the food to cook it, through the pressure, they leave true grill marks on the food! No need to flip! Handles for comfortable and safe handling. Perfect for 1 - 2 servings. The Platinum silicone strips allow you to adjust the plates based on the foods thickness. HOW TO USE IT: Preheat the MW Grill for 3 min. Place the food between the MW Grill plates. Secure the plates with the silicone bands. The food will be cooked by the two grills plates. I haven't found anything else that grills in the microwave
So far I've used it to grill peaches and carrots. I cut them in half first. Both worked beautifully. It does not have a lip to catch liquids, so, indeed, you need to be careful when moving it not to get burned. I expect this would not be an issue with drier foods, like a grilled cheese sandwich. It cleans easily.

Lekue Microwave Grill
I bought this to grill fish. I put olive oil on top of the fish. The fish came out white. As I was taking it out of the microwave liquids that accumulated from the fish spilled out on the floor.

Careful to not get burned
I purchased this grill to complement my Rangemate Pro rectangular and round microwave grill pans. I wanted to grill pork chops and steak, hoping for some crispness on the edges and fat of these meats. Grill marks are fine if there is some crispness with them. The Lekue grill cooing times and temperature is based on a 900 watt microwave which seems small by American standards. I use a 1200 watt microwave and would have to program it for 80% power (960 watts) to meet that specification. Since I wanted to sear the meat as best I could, I cooked at full power. After a preheat of 3 minutes at full power, I cooked a pork chop (barely fit) and then a rib steak (had to cut it in half to fit) at full power for 3 minutes, which gave me Medium pink in middle meats. But neither had any crispness at all and only the faintest grill mark which added nothing to the taste. There was an accumulation of juice/fat in the bottom of the grooves. When I went to remove the grill pan from my microwave which is in a cabinet above the counter, I inadvertently tilted it and the hot juice spilled out, coming close to burning me.But the silicon handle on the top plate did come off when I lifted the pan, and I did get burned on the exposed metal handle it covered. This silicon protective handle came off three times while I experimented with the grill pan. Not acceptable. Replacing it on the lid was not as easy as it could have been due to the pointed fingers of the lid's metal handle. I suspect that the silicon might tear someday if this happens constantly. The tabs that hold the two plates together came loose a couple of times and once fell of the plate as well. Be careful putting them back in place if you have to continue the cook as it's easy to burn yourself in the close quarters between the tab holder and hot metal. My pork chop and rib steak were more baked/steamed than grilled or broiled. Not what I expected.A home made 6 ounce hamburger filled the grill so the Lekue video showing 2 burgers must be using 2-3 ounce burgers.I had better results with grilled cheese sandwich, french toast and a hot dog. None of these released much if any liquid so it remained fairly dry inside the plates. The Lekue literature touts that the pan reaches just 465° or so for the ideal grilling temperature. I prefer the much higher heat 680°s of the Rangemate grill pans as these can really sear the meat. The Lekue grill pan, in my opinion is dangerous as it can burn you from either escaping hot liquid or inadvertently touching the metal. The stay cool silicon handles do not stay cool, as they get very warm. And the small sixe of the pan and handles contribute to accidentally burning yourself. For me, the inability to grill, broil or get crispness to the meat, the small size that cannot accommodate a rib steak, the danger of being burned and better performing competitor microwave grill pans are all deal killers.
