P-Series Large Black Earbuds x3

I've tried several other foam tips for my etymotic IEMs (including some extra options etymotic provides, besides the ones they give you with the ER4s) and I also have custom made silicone molds. First of all, the isolation with these tips is better than everything else (including the highly expensive silicone molds). Secondly, comfort wise, these are much more comfortable than the other foam tips, and minimally less comfortable than the silicone molds (you feel a slight pressure) ie, you don't really start to get tired of the IEMs for at least 2-3 hours (truth is, with the custom silicone tips, you could wear them all day long). And finally and more importantly, the sound is better than EVERYTHING else, including the molds!! (which I didn't expect). It seems that a) the molds don't allow the tip to reach so deep into the ear (although it's extremely deep) and the bass somewhat suffers as a result. and b) the sound of your footsteps if you have to walk, or any other internal sounds which are unavoidable when wearing IEMs, is not so pronounced as with the silicone molds! So in the end, it seems that the only thing these extra.... 150£ got me was (much) extra comfort. The next best thing (or THE best thing, if you don't have to use your IEMs for more than a few hours at a time) are these foam tips though, and for a tenth of the price..... Just ordered a second packet.

I've always been a fan of Comply foam tips. Although it usually takes me a while to find the right ones to match with my headphones and my ears. I always used the largest size as apparently i have large ear canals, however the comfort 100's i had before never seemed to fit properly. These have longer tips which go deeper into the ear canal so I ordered a mixed set of these. I am running these on a set of Beyerdynamic Byron BT headphones and they are perfect. They drown out background noise so i don't have to have the headphones so loud which again is perfect as the treble can be quite sharp at high levels. Bass is well signaled and i can hear deeper sub base tones that weren't picked up before. The tips fit comfortably for long sessions, but are annoying when you have to quickly take them out as they need 20-30 seconds to settle in your ear. However, for me it's a negative i am happy to live with considering the impact on quality of output these things have. Another downer is that i expect that the tips won't last very long; i should imagine 6 months tops. This is based on previous experience from Comply and other rival brands. Loses a star on value for money on that basis. Anyway; thoroughly recommended!

I've been using using comply tips on all of my IEMs for years now, started with medium T-100s which I actually still have 1 pair left, they are small, minimal size really, 10mm length 12mm diameter, the best ones I've had were T-100 large from early 2013, 14mm length, 13mm diameter, no guard on them, but when I re-ordered those I found that they had changed the design to a shorter wider version, closer in length to the original mediums, these measure roughly 14mm diameter and as such they seem to exert slightly too much pressure on my ears and lack the depth to get good isolation. So I switched to the P-series which are much longer, 15mm + length, 13mm diameter, they also have a tapered core unlike the T-100s, so they feel slightly different when rolled and possibly isolate better. The issue I found with these though is that they are actually TOO long, this might be great for use in very high noise environments, but for general usage I found that the hole would actually close up and muffle the sound because the insertion was too deep, so I had to actually cut the end off to hear the sound clearly, its difficult to get a straight cut since they are foam and you lose the nice rounded shape that complys have. After that you might notice an additional problem, the long core inside resonates strongly at certain frequencies ( around 4 to 8 KHz ) like a reed in a wind instrument, adding a slight harsh sound to the music, to fix this I had to force back the remaining foam past the end of the core and cut around 2-3mm off, not easy. I give it a high rating anyway because from what I've seen theres nothing else you can buy that will produce the good results you can get with this.

I recently bought Etymotic's excellent ER2XR and have been really enjoying them. I don't mind their notorious triple flange tips but I don't always get a great fit and often have to reposition them. I tried the included foam tips and found I got a more consistent fit and did not need to adjust them. They aren't the most comfortable though and they don't look like they would last long. I looked for a third party tip and found the Comply Professional series, I have had good experiences with Comply products. Once fitted to the sound tube on the Etymotic the foam protrudes past the end of the nozzle, this is a good thing as if the nozzle is too widely exposed in the ear canal it can lead to the micro filters on the earphones getting clogged, even if you have very clean ears. I have first hand experience of this, you may notice that Etymotic eartips including the foams have a tiny aperture at the very end rather than a wide bore, this may be for purely sonic reasons but it also prevents ingress of ear wax and other debris clogging up your earphones. As with most foam tips you squeeze and roll them with your fingers to make them easier to insert. Put them in as far as they can go without force and gently hold them in place for about 15 seconds as the foam expands to fill your ear canal to form an optimal fit, there is nothing else you need to do. I can wear mine for many hours with no discomfort. They feel so much more comfortable than the original Etymotic foams, those are more like a sponge and a little abrasive. With some foam tips on more conventional IEMs sound can be altered by them, bass usually increases in quantity but not necessarily in quality. With these foam tips and this Etymotic earphone I have not noticed any affect in sound beyond providing a good seal for noise isolation. I don't know how long these will last, I have used Comply true grip tips on my Sony wf1000xm3 since I got them over 6 months ago and still have an unused pair out of a pack of 3 pairs. I use those buds almost daily for several hours. I discard the tips when they lose pliability, I keep them and my ears clean. Comply tips seem like decent value to me, I'll be impressed if I get more than a month out of a pair with how much I'm using the Etymotics at the moment.

No where near as comfortable as my usual comply tips with my Shure in ears. Will be going back to my usual non p series tips. Revising my review. Having gone back to T-100 tips I’m reminded of just how horrible these are. Dropped a star. Great if you perhaps have caves for ear holes. Otherwise avoid. Standard comply tips are fantastic. These. Not so much.

Check the fitting size. I struggled to get these on my earphones, breaking one straightaway. They could do with being stronger because when you squash them to place in your ear it weakens the foam. However, they do make a difference to cutting out external noise somewhat. Treat them carefully and they'll be fine and do a good job

I've always experimented with phone tips and always come back to comply. Usually get the isolation ones with wax guard. Thought I'd try these to to be satisfied I'd tried them all. Glad I did. I like these best! Give more isolation on train journeys and the listening experience improved greatly. Maybe depends on ears but I haven't noticed the canal getting squashed closed when pushed right in as indicated by another review here. They're soft and expand with heat to fit perfect if you let them settle for a bit. Understand designed for aircraft pilots originally - comfortable for long periods of time and can lie my head against train window without any issue. One reviewer said can come off in the ear when try and remove the 'phones - just need to make sure you push them in to the headphone fully or they'll pull back off. As long as you do that - perfect listening experience. Waste of good IEM's not to use comply to get the best out of them.

The sound isolation of these earbuds is better that the more normal depth earbuds. They are comfortable and stay in place well. They last well too, but when they do give up it's almost overnight! They suddenly become soft and don't expand in your ear. But that's not important. Highly recommended!

The foam eartips that came with my ER2s and ER4s were rough in my ears, not very comfortable, and kind of finnicky to get a good seal. Oddly, when I reordered Etymotic foam eartips, the new ones were softer but had no memory-foam function at all, so they wouldn't stay compressed to insert. I had to try to stuff them into my ears, and when they did finally seat, they also weren't very comfortable, nor very secure. On top of that, they did a poor job of blocking ambient noise, which is one of the main things I wanted Etys for in the first place. I tried everything to get a genuine Etymotic eartip to work. The stock silicone ones wouldn't seal unless I crammed them in very deep, until I felt some discomfort deep in the ear canal. That doesn't seem workable. I tried the bigger silicone version, and that sealed somewhat better, but still had iffy ambient noise blocking at the gym, and it didn't feel very secure. The original foams were a step in the right direction, but they were rough in my ears, and when they started to get dirty and I wanted replacements, those were not really workable. These Comply ear tips immediately worked better than anything Etymotic had to offer. I don't think they change the sound of the IEMs. They just fit more comfortably and more securely, are easier to insert, and reliably block ambient noise. (SIDE NOTE: Less expensive Etymotic ER2SEs not only sound better to me than their flagship ER4SRs, they have much better specs on paper. Check before you buy!) I don't know about their falling apart as some have reported. I heard those reports about the Ety eartips too, but never had that experience. They're basically foam earplugs with tunnels through them. They fit my IEMs fine--a little snug going on, which is what you want so they come out with the monitors when you extract them. I also try to be careful when pulling them out, as I'd be afraid of them getting stuck in my ear if I just yanked. I don't think this style of eartip is meant to last a long time. And cleaning them with any kind of solvent seems like asking for trouble, in terms of their falling to pieces. It seems to me that, like foam earplugs, I will have to replace them quite often--every week or two if I wear them much. That can get pretty expensive, I admit, but at any rate they work well.

Great sound isolation - take note they protrude into the ear more than others

After getting my Shure Aonic 4s I have been trying to find a foam ear tip that seals and is as comfortable as the original 3 flange silicone ones. These tips are super comfortable I can wear them for hours with no strain, the box of different sizes lets you find the perfect fit. They seal really well in the ear and the sound quality is not hampered at all. The extra length on these compared to other models definitely helps getting the proper fit. I would suggest these to anyone looking for replacement foam tip.
