Be fully aware of what this does and doesn't do. This by itself does nothing.
Be fully aware of what this does and doesn't do. This by itself does nothing.USB to FireWire (IEEE 1394) are fundamentally different interfaces with incompatible protocols. USB and FireWire use different communication methods and power requirements, making a simple cable or software conversion impossible. To connect a FireWire device to a computer with only USB ports, you'll need a hardware adapter that includes a FireWire port on one side and a USB port on the other, along with the necessary drivers and software.

REAL WARNING, READ!
READ!if you have a mini DV camcorder of any type and expect this to plug into your 4 pin FireWire and then transfer videos or photos onto your computer. It will not do that. After a lot of research and testing, I’m actually not sure if this cable is capable of doing anything!Absolutely just a product that someone is making a lot of money on who created it because it would be useful if it actually existed.Well it does exist now, but it shouldn’t.FireWire cannot automatically transfer into a USD cable under any circumstances. There was a time that people only made money if they brought value to someone else, now people can make money by simply exploiting common misconceptions and manufacturing mass quantities of useless cables that aren’t capable of charging, transferring, communicating, ANYTHING!

USB is not a universal connection solution after all.
Didn’t solve my problem in trying to connect an IEEE 1394 device to my laptop.

USB to FireWire
It works exactly as it should! NO latency or proprietary controllers needed if using a Mac. Linux or PC will require the proper IEEE1394 drivers. USB is handled by all modern OS by default. Im using this to access old files from an external HD that was used on a Mac from 2001. Worked flawlessly the first time. No drivers needed on the Mac side but when using the same HD and cable on a PC, a quick driver update was needed. No big deal. Windows update handled that within seconds. The cable is very stout and well shielded. The connector ends lock in tightly and do not come loose unless intentionally unplugging the cable.

It works well
It works really good. Nobody sells it but I’m glad Amazon had it.
