The picture does look lighter cocoa, but I got the jet black cocoa from blommers. If the description says jet black then it is

Blommer's has many different cocoa powders - see the link to the pdf below that goes into more detail on these. The black one that I purchased is the Jet Black cocoa powder. A Sudan Dutch will still be a brown powder. If you are in Chicago you can go to the store, but they don't always have all of the cocoas available there, it just depends what's being manufactured at the time.http://www.blommer.com/_documents/blommer-cocoa-powder-ds-0511.pdf

Q: How long does this cocoa stay fresh? They don't seem to offer a batch with an expiration date past 2016.

Most manufacturer dates are best buy dates as opposed to expiration dates and refers to the date when flavor intensity/quality may decline , not sure if this cocoa is similar. Most cocoa powder can last at least 2 years past the printed date if unopened and 1 year once opened. I've also heard normally it's safe to use cocoa within 3 years of the date but the 2 year unopened and 1 year opened is the typical rule I follow. The current batch they have expires December 2016. I believe Wincrest Bulk Foods buys in bulk and then repackages it in consumer sizes, although I'm not certain, so this may be the 1 year mark from the date it was repackaged by them. Personally I would still go by 1 year from the date you open it and then base my decision at that point on smell and/or taste. I'm sure others have their own rules on how long they keep or have kept cocoa as storage conditions play a major part in it. Store it in a cool, dry location to help extend the life.

7.5g of the 10g carbs are fiber which do not provide 4cal/g, the actual nutrition is what is accurate as printed on the label.
