The Blue Zones 2nd Edition: 9 Lessons for Living Longer From the People Who've Lived the Longest : Buettner, Dan: desertcart.co.uk: Books Review: A book that may add years to your life - The author shares the daily habits, and diet of those who have lived longer than average, and are still in good health and active daily, in various parts of the world. A lot of scientific information on the benefits of various foods, and habits, is also identified, it is all very interesting and insightful. Review: Fascinating read - This is an addictive read - I inhaled it! The sciencey elements are easy to understand and the case studies are varied and insightful. At the end of each blue zone chapter (blue zones are the locations where the most centenarians (people aged 100 or over) are found in the world, including Sardinia, Okinawa, etc) there is a summary of all the eating habits, daily routines and lifestyles that the long lifers have embarked on, giving you hints on how to extend your own life, and be in a non-comatose state on your journey to 100. My only gripe is the 'travel review' style that the author adopts in parts, making some sections feel story-like, which works for some, but I prefer the detached, scientific tenor.

definitely worth reading
There's loads of info currently available on healthy eating and lifestyle - but much is just opinion and not based on fact. This book differs - it reports on the people who actually live long lives. It is thus fact based and therefore more valuable than most of the others. The advice is useful. Definitely worth a read.

Super interesting and inspiring book
As someone who cares about health I was fascinated by the blue zones, to learn what they ate, their lifestyles was very inspiring and interesting. I want to thank Dan for writing this book, I am changing my diet to mainly vegetarian based with a little bit of animal products, I will not join a gym, I’ll buy a bicycle and cycle to work and drink herbal teas, thanks again Dan for your hard work. Really loved the book, now onto the next book the Blue Zone Solutions.

Fascinating read!
Dan Buenntner clearly sets out the lifestyle and diet of the centenarians who make up the five Blue Zones of the world. He summarises by teasing out the similarities between the zones and makes suggestions as to how everyone can adopt key principles to help move towards healthy longevity. I found the book well written and although I already knew about many of the factors Buenntner discusses, there were several surprises in store, which I have begun incorporating into my own lifestyle. Recommended if you are interested in staying well and living as long as you can.

Not enough science
A very interesting book, with gripping conclusions about longevity, but written in a very silly way. The various scientists and researchers involved are described personally, right down to whether they are good-looking and what clothes they are wearing, presumably in an attempt to make the sciency bits more approachable. Please, just the facts. There's also quite a lot of padding, such as a history of the Adventists which is quite irrelevant, and general advice about health which is occasionally dated. More science and less story-telling would have been welcome.

Delightful and instructive
The Blue Zone story is one that anyone interested in living longer will be familiar with but what marks this book out for me is both the engaging personal style of the author combined with the serious science underlying his observations. It makes for a fascinating and entertaining journey that leaves one with vivid impressions of the unique communities he immersed himself in and the valuable lessons about long-term health and well-being they taught him - highly recommended.

It is a very interesting book, easy to read. In the Blue Zones, people live in harmony with nature, eat natural and pure foods, have strong family and community bonds, but above all, they are free from high levels of stress.

English is not my first language so I found that there are too much descriptions and too much new vocabulary in this book but the information is awesome. Just what i needed. I'm asking myself how to live the good life these days and this book helped me understand the power of what I'd call "authenticity" and "simplicity", ie there's no need to look for the perfect workout, perfect way of eating, perfect anti-aging or detox program... These people don't do that. These are great values to live by.
