This isn't the best stain I have used to date as far as application goes, but it looks very nice when it's done. It's a five star stain, just be warned that a little doesn't necessarily go a long way. However, it was easy to apply it vey evenly and very smoothly. One coat was enough. A second coat doesn't really even make a difference. The three colors are very similar, but that is what I was looking for. These are for staining wood model kits, and sometimes, a subtle change in stain color can make all the difference in the world. More importantly, though, I want it to still look like wood. I like that they come in such small bottles, as they will last me a long time. I didn't really need the foam brushes, though.

I stained a few 2"x3" wood panels to compare. The order is Maple, Oak, then Walnut. Those are stained to a medium darkness - you can make each one much lighter or darker. Yep, does what it's supposed to. They are definitely all different, but the red in the Maple is *barely* noticeable. I'm thinking of adding a drop or two of red acrylic paint to the whole bottle to make it look more cherry, and to be noticeably apart from the brown of the Oak stain. The Oak is the stain you're used to on 70's and 80's wood furniture, and the Walnut is a darker, deeper brown, close to that of a medium roast coffee bean. Definitely a good combo to have on hand.

Good color choices and apply’s well to wood and paper. I brushed it on and rubbed it off with a soft cloth.

Love using these stains for my crafts. I like the color variety offered and the gels perform very well on wood.

Great gel stain. I liked that it did not run or bleed into areas I did not want it go. You can paint with it to get it exactly where you want. The colors were nice and showed the wood grain very well. It was easy clean up too.

fun with faking burled wood look with this stuff for a play...needed a fancy sort of background for a train car on stage, and thought to recreate various exotic woods, so far...having some fun...just got it so still experimenting

Stains worked well, but disappointed I did not get brushes.

The item description shows that the kit contains three different stains: maple, oak and walnut. I received two bottles of maple and one of oak—no walnut. Will send it back because I really need the walnut stain as well.
