The Robin Wood Tarot

Old School! A Classic! But Flawed
A classic! I actually really love this deck and have been loving working with it, but it does have it’s flaws. The Negatives:- Real World Representation: This deck was first published in 1991. While there is a little bit of age and body diversity (there a several mature characters besides The Hermit, and two with larger body sizes) this deck is about as white as it gets. I don’t even think there is one POC in this entire deck- something that should have been considered as this deck was published in 1991 not 1901. LGBTQIA seems nonexistent as well.Additionally, this deck is simply advertised as a “pagan” deck, not as one of Pre-Christian Celtic Mythology and Folklore where it would make some historical sense for everybody in this deck to be Lily white. Anyway.Nudity: Personally, I am not bothered or scandalized by the amount of Nudity in this deck- I actually appreciate that the male figure on The Lovers Card is shown in full frontal nudity- a rarity, in any medium it seems. It shows the nudity as an equalizer and our natural state regardless of nature. However, there is quite a lot of nudity and I would not read this deck for children or young adults for this reason.Cardstock- ugh US Games why tho. These cards are thin, and I am quite tough on mine in general. I feel like they will probably hold up, as they have not been chipping or tearing with regular use like some decks. However- I will be buying an older printing of this deck when this one wears down.Borders: I almost always prefer borderless cards, but the simple white boarders on these cards are not intrusive. Really not too much of a negative as just an “uh”.Positives- The Art: I wasn’t sure about this deck’s look at first, but the art has grown on me. The Illustrations are beautiful and vivid, and are extremely easy to read. The art is magnificent for intuitive readings as each card so clearly tells the story of the cards meaning. There are tons of details in each card, and I feel like each time I look at them I see something new. The backs are reversible and have a handsome green and white Celtic cross.Good For A Beginner- These cards would be very good for a beginner. While the Robin Wood Tarot is a RWS clone it is an intuitive read with beautiful illustrations and would make a good starter deck. There is a reason it’s been in print since 1991

A new favorite Tarot deck
All right, so I only recently got into reading Tarot cards, and I'm very much enjoying trying different decks. In my experience, every deck is unique. Even though the images are based on one of the three major Tarot traditions--Tarot de Marseille, Thoth/Golden Dawn, and Rider-Waite-Smith (RWS), the deck designer and artist affect the deck's energy and direction. So one RWS-based deck can be better for some types of questions and answers, while another is better for others. You can use any deck to answer any question, but the best decks are perfect for asking anything of.The Robin Wood deck is perfect for asking anything of. The artwork is a bit crowded, but I like it. (Beware, though: If this deck were a movie, it would be rated R. The full frontal nudity makes the deck better for more mature audiences.) I've gotten clear, unambiguous answers for every question I've asked, and I've asked a range of questions from minor to major.I don't use the little white books (LWBs) or the gorgeous big books that come with decks, so I can't say anything about this deck's LWB.Aside from not being able to comment on the LWB, I highly recommend adding this deck to your collection.

This is one of the best Tarot available.
I really like this tarot deck. Very traditional, and yet, still very easy for the reader and the subject to understand. The artwork is beautiful. I bought my last one 10 years ago and I am still using it. I just decided that it was time to get a new deck.

Love this deck
I used this deck for years, but have fallen off my tarot readings, and the old, admittedly worn one is buried somewhere. The artwork is vibrate and colorful, magical. It is similar enough to a traditional Rider-Waite type deck that a reader will have no difficulty with it...there are no unknown card types inserted. Yet an intuitive reader will find much here to aid in interpretation. I highly recommend this deck.

A refreshing take on a classic.
I will preface this by saying that this is my first deck. That said, I already love this deck. The art is gorgeous and much more appealing to me than the standard Rider-Waite-Smith art. The art here is mostly based on RWS but with some Wiccan-flavored twists because Robin Wood is Wiccan. I am not Wiccan but I still find the symbolism appealing and understandable. The "twists" make this deck a tiny bit harder to learn if you are using RWS-based texts but the art is close enough to where it's still easy and makes sense. The cards themselves feel well-made. They feel surprisingly stiff and strong compared to their thickness. They have a nice smooth coating that makes them glide over each other. I think they will last for quite a long time. The rest of the package I am less thrilled with. The box is appealing at first with its book-like opening but it's quite difficult to open each time and the cards are inconvenient to remove. It's made of pretty thin material as well. For daily use I've been keeping the cards themselves in a pouch instead. The included booklet is tiny and laconic to the point of being pretty useless. You also get two extra cards that show pictures of card spreads which I think is kind of nice, but the spreads are also listed in the booklet so it's a little redundant.Overall I really love this deck so far and would recommend it to anyone who would like a refreshing new spin on the Rider-Waite-Smith style of tarot.

Buen mazo
