Great DAB radio alarm for a motor home
This is a great DAB radio alarm clock for use in a motor home where there aren't many mains sockets, but there are USB charging points. This is especially true in the case of modern German motor homes like modern Carthago, Dethleffs, Hymer etc. that all have USB charging points in the bedroom, but no mains sockets. Although this is a 'mains powered' DAB radio, the power socket is a standard micro USB, so will run off any power source with a micro USB plug. It's a shame the manufacturer doesn't make more of this feature. There are very few devices like this out there and it took me a few days to find it.Out of the box, it was easy to setup. I plugged it into the USB charging cable for my phone and turned it on. It scanned the DAB frequencies and picked up about 70 channels in a minute or so. The sound quality is OK overall and quite good for a small unit, but don't expect big bass. The display is quite bright and by pressing the snooze button it will cycle through the 4 dimmer levels. The normal sleep brightness is quite dim, so shouldn't disturb you at night. There is a standard USB socket rated at 500mA that you can use to charge your phone whilst sleeping.I've still more to discover, but I think it only has one channel preset and I haven't tried any FM stations. I've still got to try the alarms (there are 2), but so far I'm delighted with it.

Functional and good value
This is my first DAB radio and I think I'm impressed by the clarity of DAB radio more than anything. I wanted something that would function well as both a radio and an alarm clock and this does that. The screen even at lowest setting is perhaps a little too bright for me but it's not a deal breaker. I like how you can easily change between the brightness levels. That said the display is no OLED (which one wouldn't expect for this price). It's a bit washed out around the edges and an virtually impossible to read from any angle other than straight on.In terms of function this is a well designed radio, easy to set preset stations, easy to scan through and find stations, useful that it can pick up FM, and be used as a bluetooth speaker too (though the bass response is weak so I wouldn't use it for music, unless in a pinch). All in all a good radio, good value for money, reassured that it is future-proof in terms of DAB (or at least claims to be). Disappointed that the free earphones advertised in the manual are no longer available but there's an extended 3 year warranty if you leave a review which is a decent trade off.All in all if you're looking for an inexpensive modern clock radio, with decent sound, functionality and a cleanish design this might be the one.
B**B
It's another "designed in Europe, made with Chinesium" device.
Overall: It's a competent device but nothing special in the world of DAB clock radios and not especially good value compared with supermarket shelf equivalents.I liked:Easy setting of shutoff timer when you're going to sleep.Speech sound quality is good at all levels; sibilants are fine. Music is tolerable. You don't want to listen to it for long on a tiny speaker obviously.Time is visible when radio is on - unlike some 1st gen. DAB cheapies.Time is displayed on 11mm high 7 segment displays with 4 brightness levels which don't change in the dark. Although small the digits are easy to read.I didn't like:Wired headphone output - teethclenchingly tinny through earbuds (and mono on my brief test).Button layout - at least make the volume and channel buttons stand out.Button operation - cheap feel and some switch bounce making operation annoying until you learn it's tricks.Overall feel of the device - a definite impression of cheap compared with comparable but slightly more expensive Sony radio.Notes:It's much smaller than I imaginedUSB - only 500mABluetooth - not tested - it can only act as a player of an external source according to the manual. Quite why you'd want that is unknown to me. Now if it could output to BT phones ...User Manual - I didn't find it necessary except to set the shutoff (sleep) timer. The instructions were wrong (you should press the Sleep button momentarily not hold it as the manual implies). The manual was not indexed but was in englishrather than chinglish and probably covers most things.Guarantee - you have to write an Amazon review to get an extended warranty. (Hence this verbiage!)So, overall, it works but it's not an object of desire and for something that I use everyday I should have stuck to a big name and shelled out at least twice the price
