I think they may be the only 1mm lead, but could be wrong
I have an older Rotring engineer's pencil. Most are .9mm, but I wanted something a bit larger, at the time the Rotring I believe was they only one available. I especially liked the weight and design. The pencil tip casing is uniform and in two stages. Tapered tips move away from the barrel as the lead wears down. I know many brands of engineer pencils have the same design, but many do not. This way the line remains the same distance form the ruler as the line is drawn. I think the pencil may have gone out of production. Rotring was bought out and merged several times over. For the most part the product line seems to have been preserved, Rotring pens and pencils are solidly made, perhaps a little expensive, but not a like Mont Blanc came to be. I know 1 mm leads are available, but are not usually stocked in brick and mortar stores, so I went on line. Low and behold I found it. It comes in only 1 hardness= No 2 pencil, that's ok. I'll probably stock up on more. Rotring also makes a mechanical clutch pencil with a 2mm lead in several hardnesses also a great pencil. The 1mm has an eraser, the 2mm has an attached sharpener.Since this is about the lead I ought to say the lead is very good, I believe it is a polymer bond; it is uniform and hard with out being too brittle. I have not seen this size lead in to the more common pentel brand, maybe .9mm would do in a pinch. Other brands are out there but harder to find. Business is much easier with Amazon.

As expected!

As expected, but expensive - there may be an alternative…
This is exactly what it claims to be, though it is, of course quite expensive compared to other brands and sizes. That’s because it’s a rather unique size, and has to be imported from Germany. I can’t say this is all that much better lead than other brands, it’s just some of the only 1.0 out there. However, I haven’t checked this yet, but I have a sneaking suspicion a lot of pens would function with 0.9 lead, which may be worth checking out (because Pentel and others have 0.9 for dirt cheap). Also, the cap to this package is quite finicky compared to other brands that I’m familiar with.

Fits classic Cross lead pencil
Finally ran out of lead for my Cross mechanical pencil in a set with the matching ballpoint pen. And Cross does not carry that lead! Wow! How many of those mechanical pencils must have been sold in the last 50 years? Well, the lead is 1mm in diameter and most lead is 0.5mm or 0.7mm. The 1mm is thicker and more durable, but alas, not to be found easily, except with this Rotring item. Fits perfectly and is a great darkness for everyday use. I'm seriously happy. :-))
