ALTRA Men's Lone Peak 7 Trail Running Shoe

This is my second pair of ALTRA Lone Peak 7 shoes in this colour. My first pair wore out around the heels and parts of the soles after multiple long distance hikes (1,000 KMs +) across Spain, Italy and Switzerland and up Mount Kilimanjaro (apart from Summit day) and various other hikes and mountains. I found them very comfortable from the get go. The wide toe box ensures next to no toe friction avoiding any blisters. There is plenty of grip (although I would prefer a Vibram sole) and enough cushioning in the sole across rocky terrain. I love the colour and design and preferred to stick with the 7 rather than the 8 for that reason. I own a pair of LP 6s and the major improvement in the 7 for me is that they let in less water when walking across wet fields and grass. They still let in a lot through the fabric so I take alternative socks and soles to change in to. But overall outstanding.

I have Morton's Neuroma in both feet. I'm size 11 wide. This shoe is wide AND has a wide toe box (which are not the same thing). A wide toe box is important, because it can help prevent getting Morton's Neuroma OR if you already have Morton's Neuroma, it can help prevent it from getting worse. I got a half size up (11.5 wide). I wish it had more cushion though. I wanted to get the Altra Olympus; which has the max cushion available from Altra, but they don't sell it in wide, so I had to settle with the Lone Peak. I hope Altra makes the Olympus in wide one day. These shoes distribute force evenly outwards, so minimal weight is placed on the Neuroma; however it will still aggravate your neuroma, but due to the wide toe box, it will help prevent it from getting worse; because Morton's Neuroma usually occurs from having shoes that are too tight in the toe region. I my previous shoe was Reebok DMX Extra Wide, but these shoes have WAY too much cushion due to them working with air below the sole; about three times more cushion than the lone peak, the problem with this shoe is that your foot sinks and sinks into the cushion unevenly, and the neuroma will pop out and then the cushion crushes your neuroma which is BAD, too much cushion is a bad thing, Altra understands this. So don't get too much cushion. I tried the Altra Olympus and it has the perfect amount of cushion IMO, and these Lone Peak's are good too. I'm happy with this shoe until Altra make's the Olympus in Wide; since it also has the wide toe box.

I trained for weeks and completed a timed 34 mile ruck with 60lb ruck pack in these. They held up perfectly with zero issues. Awesome, comfort, stability, grip, and fit. I have read that people have issues with them holding up. I did not have any! The white does get dirty, but come on, that's expected for white trail shoes. I have custom insoles made, and honestly didn't even need to use them with these shoes. They are that comfortable. The wide toe box is amazing! Seriously, I don't think I can go to regular shoes now. I would love see them make a western hunting/ cold weather boot. I do not regret getting the 7s over the 8. Im sure the 8 are great too. but I had no issues.

I've been wearing the LP Alpine for a couple years now, primarily because it's got a roomy toe box and it gets decent traction on trails without feeling weird on concrete/paved tracks. I decided to try this Lone Peak 7 because the Alpine wears so quickly--both the sole and the upper, where it creases along the line where my toes bend. The LP7 made a good first impression and it seemed at first that the upper would wear better, if not the soles (which are very similar, if not the same). After a few wears I realized that the toe box is definitely narrower than that on the Alpines and after a few weeks my toe started wearing a hole through the top. The LP7 holds my heal nicely, though and I appreciate the stability. I'll miss that when I go back to the Alpines, but the LP7 toe box is too narrow for a "wide toe box" shoe.

I use these almost exclusively for hiking. They are very comfortable with no break in period. I usually have hot feet, but these seem to breathe very well and keep my feet cooler. I prefer light colors for shoes for this reason (not a fan of the crazy vibrant or dark colors on most Altras or other trail runners). The shoes dry relatively quickly, within 24 hours with the insoles removed in a dry climate. I used these to hike the Zion narrows for several miles up and down and they worked well for this purpose. I replaced the insole with a Dr Scholls planter fasciitis insole in order to increase the cushiness and support, which has seemed to work well without being too stiff. The soles are soft so you will feel irregular objects that you step on. These shoes could be better with the grip and durability of the outsole. The tread seems to wear down ~60% after 200 miles of hiking. My first pair has ~330 miles on them with a small amount of tread left. The tread is not very grippy, especially after 50% tread. The compound gets slippery if going from water/snow to rock. I wish these had vibram rubber or something grippy and more durable lugs. Also, be careful when slipping these on because the cushioning in the heel can become dislodged and bunched up under the fabric if you don't use your finger or a shoe horn to slide your heel into the shoe. Otherwise, these shoes are the most comfortable of all the hiking shoes that I have tried on. Hopefully Altra doesn't ruin these with unnecessary redesigns aside from the outsole which needs to be beefed up a little.

Greetings, I have fallen in love with Altra shoes - their wide, roomy toe box and neutral drop have been game changers for me. My favorite shoe has been the Lone Peak 5, but the LP7 was on super sale so I picked up a pair, here are my thoughts: - the LP7s are a touch heavier and a touch more padded than the LP5. I so love the feeling of lightness of the LP5s, but as a school teacher, I must admit the the tiny bit more shock absorption is noticeable in the 6th hour I'm on my feet. Same great feeling, same groovy fit, just a bit more shoe where I can use it. - I am really hooked on my bright RED LP5s, but the LP7s I got are the Green/Purple combination, which has its own unique "Hulk" appeal. - Quality is the same (excellent), fit feels about the same, the only difference seems to be the engineering of the new rock guard around the lower sides of the shoe. Time will tell as to whether it's better - the LP5s have never torn or been breeched by pointy things. - Gotta say, LOVE 'EM, and having a second pair lets me spread the load between them so my LP5s will continue to have around for even longer. Highly recommended.

I searched and read various post on what shoes would work well for the Spartan race. It all comes down to preference and how each shoe feels. For me, I rolled the dice with these Altras' and they performed very good for my recent 21k Spartan run in Dallas. I ordered the wide version, which provided the extra width that I needed for my flat feet. There is plenty of toe space and just enough arch support for my feet. I experimented with some inserts from REI that offered additional arch support, but I felt it was too much for my feet. Paired with some Mud gear 1/4 length socks, they drained the water well and I had no blisters after the 21k Beast run. These shoes had excellent grip for some for the obstacles and did not have to re-tie them after I got started. More importantly, I ran in these shoes several times before this race and never had an issue. I would recommend these shoes for the Spartan races.

They are without a doubt the most comfortable pair of footwear I currently own, however this is my second pair after having to return the first due to them being way too big. I did buy the wide fitting version and typically wear a UK11 but I ordered these in a UK10 and they are literally perfect. I have walked over 20 miles in them since I got them on Friday and they are brilliant. Good quality, light, comfortable and they look decent too.
