Great alternative to fluorescent bulb and made my hand-held lamp much lighter
I had a trouble light where the bulb kept flickering and finally would not light up at all. It never worked well in the garage in cold weather and I was considering just trashing it rather than re-lamping it. I started looking for replacement bulbs and saw that there are now many LED alternatives for the GX23 bulb it uses. I chose this one based on pricing, brightness, color temperature and user reviews. Installation was easy -- I removed the screws holding the lamp's handle together and immediately spotted the ballast (looks like a transformer), which was the only component other than a switch and an accessory outlet. Since the ballast only had two wires, I simply cut them, removed the ballast and then stripped and twisted the two wires that had been attached to it and added a small wire nut to hold and insulate them. The entire process, including disassembly and reassembly took about 15 minutes. The ballast was quite heavy, so with it gone, the lamp is now quite a bit lighter, which I like. The bulb is at least as bright as the fluorescent bulb that it replaced and the built-in reflective lens means that I can also toss the foil reflector and rubber band that held it behind the bulb but also blocked part of the bulb's output. On top of all that, I now have a spare bulb that I will probably never use since LEDs last so long. Would love to have been able to buy just one bulb, but for under $15 it's like having a new and much better trouble lamp, so I still consider it a win.

Good Ott Lite bulb replacement
When my very old Ott Lite desk lamp stopped working, my first thought was to replace the bulb. But then I discovered the OEM bulb cost more than I paid for the lamp! I then tried a generic bulb, but that did not work. Ott says there are two kinds of ballast and you have to get the right bulb for the ballast. But maybe the ballast was bad? This LED replacement was a surer and cheaper solution because it does not use the ballast. I just had to snip the two wires going in and out of the ballast, then connect them together before plugging in the LED lamp. The color temperature spec is slightly different, but it looks the same to me, as does the brightness. A good replacement! I just wish they sold single bulbs.

Great fit
These retrofit bulbs are awesome. I have an outdoor compact fluorescent fixture that's on a photo cell so it's on all night, every night. I never thought of LED for that fixture. The compact fluorescent last a long time but these LED even longer. Because the fixture is high up, I'll not have to grab my extension ladder for a longtime. The color and fit are perfect and it took 3 minutes or less to install them.

Decent light
I bought this light to use as a replacement for a bathroom fan unit. The light output is better than the fluorescent it replaced but not as bright as I hoped it would be. The unit is also a bit longer than the original it replaced and I had to get out my angle grinder and a cutting wheel to cut the end off the metal housing. Luckily since it's an LED I am not worried about it breaking.

Experience needed to make these work, Not for everyone
I bought these LEDs to put in my drop lights. These led bulbs are far brighter than the CFL s they replaced and so far not nearly as fragile. This may not be true for all applications but, both of the drop lights I have needed some modifications. One needed the socket shaved off where the raised angular bumps on the LED snap into the socket. Used a dremil for that one. The other light the bulb mounted with no problems but the bulb stabilizer wouldn't accept the increased thickness of the new bulb. Again I used the dremil to open up the slot a little. I realize it seems like a lot to do to make this bulb work but, I didn't want to be buying CFLs every time I dropped my drop light.... lol You also need to remove or bypass the ballast in your light if equipped. Not at all difficult. You also need to be aware of the way you install the led into the socket. The wires need to be going to the correct terminals. There is a diagram for this but it is vary hard to determine the pole where the black and white wires go. Looking at the diagram notice that you are looking at the smooth face of the LED not the heat sink on the back of the LED.

Much better
These lights are much better than the old fluorescent style that took a while to come on and be dim. These are much brighter and turn on instantly.

Garbage
Both bulbs died within 10 minutes! First one in about 7-8 minutes and the other one started flickering a minute later and went out. I tried turning it on and off and the first was completely dead and the other one would turn on for a few seconds and dim out, turn on and dim out. Waste of time and money.
