Required reading for any metalhead, Iron Maiden is a compendium of in-depth, entertaining, and profusely illustrated conversations about all sixteen of the legendary metal band’s studio albums. This new book from prolific rock journalist Martin Popoff pays tribute to the Iron Maiden’s studio discography through a series of in-depth, frank, and entertaining conversations about all sixteen of the legendary heavy metal band’s studio albums. Inside, the author gathers together metal journalists, authors, and musicians, who offer insights , opinions , and anecdotes about every release. Together, the conversations comprise a unique historical overview of the band, covering everything from early albums with original lead singer Paul Di’Anno; the songwriting of founder and bassist Steve Harris; the impeccable talents of drummer Nicko McBrain and guitarists Dave Murray, Adrian Smith, and Janick Gers; mega tours undertaken in support of the LPs; fights within the band ; and much more. Even their iconic mascot Eddie is sure to make an appearance or two! Popoff also includes loads of sidebars that provide complete track listings, details on album personnel, and information on where and when the albums were recorded. Every page is illustrated with thoughtfully curated performance and offstage photography, as well as rare memorabilia . Review: A MOST ENJOYABLE READ and interesting POV in discussions. - I got fed up with waiting for the "ON TRACK" book, so I bought this for about the same price. RESULT. Reading the reviews for On Track, this book is much more detailed. Hardback and great pictures. Maybe not essential reading for die hard fans but for someone like me who has all the studio albums and some live works and want an insight into the band then this is fine. HOWEVER, STORIES/MEANINGS BEHIND THE SONGS is not the aim of this book. Review: Excellent book - I'm a big fan of Maiden and this book didn't disappoint. Lots of lovely glossy pictures and great info on the band 👍🤟

It appears Maiden peaked with Piece of Mind....
Not five stars, does get me angry at times, but worth buying as book for the content over being a Maiden completist who has to have everything. laid out really well, some good info that I didn't know (and I'm a fanatic) and some cracking snaps. Some interesting guests and the discussion aspect is fantastic. But some of the guests are not brilliantly matched in a couple of chapters, they kind of side with an angle at points - Blaze Bayley though, I'll not spoil that, because he was brilliant in here - as a fan covering a Bruce album. Pretty early on Piece of Mind is held as the totem album, especially in production (come on, the songs overall top Powerslave, but the production is way behind.) There are points where I literally shouted at opinions while parked on the pot having a read - but you know what? If you're a Maiden fan you'll agree with aspects, but unlike other Maiden critical reviews it'll inspire you to form your argument on why you disagree instead of throwing it at the wall - unlike that Pilkington book!

MAIDEN - FROM THE FANS, TO THE FANS
At first I expected this book to be thorough breakdown of Iron Maiden's history and in-depth detailing behind the creation of Iron Maiden's back catalogue but it's not that... And yet, what Martin Popoff offers is more of a discussion, he gathers his friends and celebrating friends to discuss what they think about each album coming from casual fans and diehard Maideneers alike. The book is really pretty and has some great unseen photos from across all the eras and it's gold lies in hearing people like Chris Jericho and a few others who really manage to get the core of what they think these albums are about and offer their own opinions and theories about what makes Maiden great. I think this book is a great sideway into enjoying everything Maiden has to offer and a lot of cool insights from people you might not expect who share some really cool talk about one of the best heavy metal bands in the world.
