Best Film of the Year
The Oscars got it wrong, but the British still appreciate excellent (and decency) in movie making. Every aspect of "Conclave" is superior to anything Hollywood produced in the 2024 film year. "Conclave" won the British equivalent of the Academy Award for Best Picture and also a second Best Picture Award for a British-made film. With the recent election of Pope Leo XIV by a very real Conclave the film is even more relevant than it was when it first appeared, long before the fatal illness of Pope Francis I. (Reporters covering the recent election of the new Pope wrote in newspapers such as "U.S..A. Today" about the "politics" that led to the election of the first ever American-born Pope. The screenplay is a masterpiece. Hollywood did get that one correctly. The only Oscar "Conclave" won was for Best Screenplay. The story unfolds like a thrilling mystery story. Every scene is a small miracle. The acting is uniformly outstanding. There are no "small" roles. Several actors and actresses should have been nominated in the Best Supporting Acting categories. Much of the film was shot on location in Rome and near or at The Vatican City and elsewhere in Italy. I cannot imagine that the Vatican leaders allowed the movie cameras into the Holy City, so the set directors deserve great credit for the reality of the settings. Scenes from inside The Sistine Chapel are magnificent. The music is great without being intrusive. I have watched the DVD at least four times since it arrived from Amazon two weeks ago. "Conclave" is a film that is going to have lasting power. People will be watching it with great interest for a great many years to come. Don't miss viewing "Conclave."

Timely, magnificently acted/written mystery
The all-star cast delivers in spades. The mystery unfurls slowly and delivers satisfying reveals. Meticulously crafted to show the inner workings of a conclave (which, sadly, has proved timely with the passing of Pope Francis), and the political machinations that come with the process, this is a fantastic film for fans of cinema. Brilliant cinematography, multiple levels of intrigue, and well worth the watch.

Great movie!
I love the story. The visual effects are great! I love the colors of the costumes they used. I know it's not historically inaccurate. It brought out the actors character. Ralph, Stanly and John relationship in the movie were complex. Isabella really knocked it out of the park with her 1 scene. Carlos Diehz character was very suspenseful. Love when he was talking to all the cardinals in a speech. Love they were all talking in several languages. Overall movie is great! I recommend buying the DVD or 4K.

This wonderful film, Conclave, teaches integrity!
In my humble opinion five stars isn't enough to acknowledge the value of this wonderful film, "Conclave." Since I first discovered it on Amazon a few weeks ago I've watched it countless times and finally purchased the DVD to watch it at home. I recommend buying the DVD because the bonus features are very good. They show a lot about the production and the actors but what I really loved was seeing that the music is produced by real musicians and this is kind of rare these days. I found the music throughout the movie to be compelling and beautiful. While this movie is billed as a sort of mystery thriller, I think that description is misleading. I suggest that this story is more of a character study and exemplifies [mostly] the best from human beings making choices, somewhat difficult choices. This is an amazing story and I'm sure it will enthrall me for years to come.🥰

Surprise ending!
Excellent movie. Excellent cast of actors. It took a few minutes to get me involved in the beginning, but this movie grabs you and won’t let go. It came out before Pope Francis died so it wasn’t inspired by his death, but you get to go behind the scenes of the biggest mystery on earth to see what things could possibly happen when a pope dies. May be accurate, may be totally off base. But the movie is fantastic! Highly recommended!

And ending the viewer will never expect.
This is THE most incredible work I have ever seen. I am still speechless about the end of the movie. It is an outstanding work. It builds in intrigue the further you get in to it. I must mention that even though the work is very compelling the sets are not realistic. I have been to the Vatican and specifically the Sistine Chapel and the movie depiction is not accurate. Still does not detract from the impact of the movie. I researched the end of the movie and it is quite credible. It has nothing at all to do with Transgender, it is a medical condition inherent at birth.

Excellent!
Beautifully filmed, the movie captures your attention right from the very beginning. Well-written and acted, with some twists and turns, it keeps you wondering if this really happens (behind the scenes) when a new pope gets elected.
