Works with MacOS 10.8.5 (Mountain Lion)
The documentation is a bit sketchy one location says it works for 10.6 and below, other location says it works for 10.9 through 10.12. I had 10.8.5 installed on an old Mac and it just works fine.Note - it will not appear in the list of printers when you open the printer setup - click the add printer and it will show up there as "fax".I tested it with dropbox service (hellofax) and the resolution is quite high - both ways. The Mac can also receive faxes, save them, print them or email them automatically. One thing that is missing - it does not generates and official receipt as paper fax machines do (but there is a list of sent faxes if you click the fax "printer" icon (with the print queue etc.)Overall create value for Money.I can also see it appearing as /dev/ttyACM0 dialout without installing any drivers (Ububtu 22.04) but have tested it yet - would also be nice to see if it works on the Raspberry PiNote - it will not work with IP phone - but it does work with Vonage phone to IP adapter (no sure if they still make those) as it emulates analog phone, and does not filter out too much of the signal -- speed may be affected though.

Easy to use
Bought this little fax modem in August of 2022 but didn't hook it up until May of 2023. Easy hook-up. Phone cable in one end, the computer in the other. Though it comes with a disk of drivers, it wasn't required for my Windows 10 and 11 devices. They automatically recognized the modem. This is great as most newer computers do not have disk drives. Startech should update the enclosed Quick start guide. The modem worked on my Windows 10 devices, one being a Tablet. Not so lucky with Windows 11. I emailed Startech technical support and in a couple of days, received a reply with a list of suggestions of things to try. Once I had made contact with a tech guy, he responded overnight to my questions. I found their technical support was great to work with. It ended up the issue was not the Startech modem and Windows 11. It was Windows 11 and Windows Fax and Scan software compatibility. As for the modem, it's small, appears well designed/made and "take it with you" compact. I would definitely purchase it again. For others having Windows 11 issues, before sending it back as defective, trying running Fax and Scan as Administrator. Solved my problems.

Doesn't work with Windows 11
After plugging it in and installing the driver (latest driver is for Windows 10), it doesn't have audio when dialing (so you wouldn't be able to receive a fax manually because you don't know when to activated Windows Fax & Scan). And it never gets a dial tone and faxes. When you go into Windows Fax & Scan to set it up, it lists itself as “Conexant USB CX93010 ACF Modem.” If you Google that, there’s a ton of hits where people have the exact same problem I’m having and no one can fix it.Even got my IT support guy involved and no joy.

Not Many Like This Around
This is a hardware-based, voice compatible modem which makes things like faxing or emulating a dial-up ISP POP (for things like the SEGA DreamCast's homebrew 'DreamPi' solution) possible. Often times people recommend used but commonly available modems, however a new solution is nice to have and integral for making these dial-up adaptation solutions viable. If the voice does not work you may have an older version, contact StarTech directly for a firmware update. Typically the newer batches should just plug and play, mine did. This is also Linux compatible even though it's not stated on the box.The chipsets from 2022 to the time of writing this have not changed, so this should be a consistent solution. A great purchase.

Needed Cheap Fax machine ! Works fine sending and receiving.
Thank god I read the reviews first. You need to install the Drivers first. Go to the www.startech.com website and it explains which drivers to use for your Windows machine. Plug in your fax modem - configure the device into windows. Find Windows Fax Scanner App that's already installed on your windows device.Make sure you start the app using the administrator - otherwise you'll be sitting there and wasting your time. Take some time and configure the fax settings (receive settings and transmit settings) - set up a fax transmission page. Tested with someone at my old work place to send and receive a test fax. Does not provide any sound and I forget how slow fax transmission speeds are. So be patient ! Works like a charm.Who knew that you still needed a fax in this day and age.

Works with Windows 11
Works with Windows 11, but had to disable core isolation in Windows security.

It works.
The product and support was fine, Unfortunately because of Windows 11 using it can be a multi step process. I wrote the procedure on a card to make it easier. I was not able to see the full body of the fax that I was sending that included some PDF files. Again I would blame Windows 11. Overall, I am satisfied with my purchase.

Bought 5 years ago and never used it until now. Remarkably, it "just worked".
I bought this 5 years ago but ended up not needing it until today. Amazingly, it just worked. Never needed the CD it came with (good because I have no CD drive lol). Windows recognized the device right away - no extra software to install. I was able to send a fax on the first try with the built-in Windows Fax and Scan app. I honestly expected much more of a hassle for such outdated tech, but was pleasantly surprised at how easily it worked.
