Batman: The Golden Age Omnibus Vol. 5

I used to own Batman 15-100 along with a smattering of Golden Age Detective and World's Finest Comics. I also owned all of the World's Finest from issue 73 through 323 when it ended and Detective from 233(first Batwoman-1956 through issue 715. That's a lot of comic books. I sold the comics and I bought all of the DC archive with Batman (Batman Archives, Batman in World's Finest Archives and the Dark Knight Archives. The Dark Knight archive ended with Batman 37. This archive has Batman 36-45. A much easier way and safer way to have all of these beloved stories. Looking forward to purchasing more Golden Age Batman omnibuses in the future.

As noted before, with this edition, Volume 5, DC finally surpasses collected stories of Batman as previously found in the Archives and Chronicles series. For that alone, this book is priceless and essential to any Golden Age Batman collector. Never before has all of these stories been collected together, and I would imagine, some individual stories have never been reprinted before anywhere! This marks the beginning of my favorite Batman era - mid 40s to the 50s. The stories are not of course as well developed as in modern comics, but are not as stiff as the earliest issues either. Read these with the mindset like you are watching a old movie - they are period pieces, and dated by nature, but still very much enjoyable when considered in their own terms. The artwork is classic Golden Age Batman with such artist as Dick Sprang, Jim Mooney, Bob Kane himself and Charles Paris. Those great Bill Finger stories present his trademark "big props" and classic larger-than-life settings that conjure that Sense of Wonder that captures young readers then and now. The reprinted stories here feature vibrant, bright colors printed on stark white, medium weight paper. A very handsome presentation, indeed! ( I could do without the pre-faded/aged cover and Intro text pages, but that's a minor quibble. At least the stories are bright and new!) I've been reading and collecting Batman for over 50 years now, and can not thank DC enough for finally collecting this era of stories together! I hope they continue at least until the "new look" Batman of the early 60s!

Loved this volume! The selection of stories was exactly the content I was looking for. While obviously different from the content of today's issues, I loved the nostalgia and feel of the era this came from. Definitely worth what I paid and it will be a collector's item for me forever. The condition of the book and the quick Prime shipping are always spot on! Thank You!!!

It's very good for what it is, and the reprints are high quality. I should note its got more of a silver age-y feel to it but thats been the case in these since the second golden age omnibus for bats so. If you are at all interested in this, I say go for it.

Great book

If you're a fan of the old DC Archives editions, this book finally passes them in reprinting the main Batman series, though I believe the World's Finest and Detective Comics stories continued longer. Regardless, this volume has reached the late 1940s, and I'm still amazed at the sheer volume of stories the writers and artists managed to produce every year. The Joker continues to outstay his welcome, but after being almost entirely absent from volume 4, Catwoman begins to appear more regularly in this volume, and of course the Penguin turns up on a regular basis as well. There's the usual mix of human interest, petty crime and supervillain shenanigans for Batman and Robin to tackle, and Alfred's solo feature comes to an end. This is another great installment of a series which I hope DC continues to publish for a long time to come.

I love the DC omnibus collections and they are great; let me say that right up front so that there is no confusion. Unfortunately as each character line continues the page count on each omnibus seems to be getting less and less. This Batman omnibus is noticeably smaller than the previous Batman volumes. In the Legion of Superheroes omnibus line, both volumes are very small compared to the Flash and Doom Patrol omnibuses. In addition for no apparent reason the Batgirl and Supergirl omnibuses even went so far as to omit material that was previously reprinted and released in the black and white Showcase Presents line. I am sorry if I sound like a curmudgeon, but if I am going to pay such a high price tag for something called an "Omnibus"; I would like to see a consistently higher page count and ALL of the featured character's varied appearances included within the specified time period that the particular volume covers.

In that omnibus, you won't find the best story ever, but you'll keep discover how Batman came to be.

Mais um volume que recomendo pra quem gosta da era de ouro dos grandes heróis, mais uma seleçao de aventuras clássicas que jamais havia visto e agora tenho. Muito bom pegarei todos do Batman e acho que vou quer os do Superman. Amazon como sempre fazendo entregas com respeito.
