Purchased these for use in my self-contained classroom. They arrived all alive and thriving on eating their 'brown mush' as my students called it! All 5 made it into cocoons and transformed into butterflies! I was surprised as I assumed we may lose one or two! The instructions were clear and helpful, and I already had a little butterfly mesh 'home' for them to be placed in. As you lift the lid to transfer the cocoon's, you do have to be careful not to let any of them fall. Overall, I was very impressed and will be purchasing again!

We weren't sure at first, when only I've of them was slightly moving when we got it. Soon enough all 5 were moving around quite a bit. I thought all that food at the bottom was overkill, but these things at a ton of it and it seemed they doubled in size every day My kids from 5 to 16 loved watching their progress. We released them in our front yard and had all the neighbor kids enamored It was a blast learning as a family. I'd definitely do it again!

We order these every year for our classroom and home. This is round 2 of caterpillars. The first ones came already in the chrysalis. This order lived a few days and they all died.. Im assuming. Both cups. They grew less than a centimeter (total) and haven't moved in 5 days.

Been getting these for the past 3 years. Whole family loves to watch them grow and turn into Monarchs. Caterpillars always come living and do their thing. Also is nice to think we are helping boost the population a tiny bit

My grandson and I "hatched" butterflies last Spring with these. One was doa, and another died shortly after arrival. However, the rest made it to adulthood, and were exciting to release into my garden.

I paid $16.23 for an advertised 5 painted lady caterpillars. I was sent only 3. I did not want to return the larvae because my prekindergarten class had waited so excitedly for what seemed to them a VERY LONG time. Nor did I want to risk killing the little creatures by sending them out for a return. I am not able to contact any representative of Insect Lore through Amazon. I tried through the Insect Lore website but they do not post a telephone number. When I did use their message format, I was told that they do not recognize my email address as a customer and thusly I cannot contact them. I feel rather cheated. I would not recommend the company to my teacher friends.

This item came with five caterpillars they have all cocooned the educational value is awesome and it is fun for my daughter good quality for the money but I hate to say it my daughter was so discouraged when one of them came out of their little cocoon deformed see we were wanting to let them all go not have to keep one but no matter the difference she said she'll take care of it as long as it lives sad story the other butterflies are attacking it another sad thing is you might want to move them two days after they all have gone up to the top to make their little cocoons because one of them decided it wanted to hatch 3 days after when I was trying to wait the 3 days to put them on the top but like I said one hatched the day we were supposed to move them all into the habitat we woke up that morning was getting everything ready to move them over and one was a butterfly in the little kit
