Men's MTPV001GL-7B Black Leather Quartz Watch

Honestly, it's hard to find fault with a watch this cheap. I could complain about case quality, weight, the fact that the crystal isn't real crystal but is rather mineral glass. But, I won't say any of that because this watch cost $29-$30 at the time of my review. That's dirt cheap for a dress watch. I got this watch because I wanted something similar to my late grandfather's gold Longines Presence Automatic. He wore that watch everywhere. He would wear it with everything from the suits and blazers it was meant to be worn with, as well as khaki shorts and a tee shirt. I always liked his watch growing up. He wore this style of watch for fifty years straight. I want to buy a Longines of my own, but I'm not ready to pay $800+ for something I'm not sure I'll like having on my wrist. The Longines is still absolutely in my sights, and ultimately this Casio doesn't hold any sentiment for me since it's not a Longines, but this Casio was the closest cheap alternative I could find that carries some of that Longines Presence DNA. I love this little watch. Is elegant, it's classic, and it's got vintage charm to it. The thin gold bevels are very esthetically pleasing. The case is thin too - only 8.5mm or so thick, about the same as the Longines. I like that there aren't any crown guards that add unnecessary bill to the case. The strap is stiff at first but it quickly becomes more comfortable after a few hours of wear. The only real gripe I have with it, and I'm not going to bother lowering the rating because it's just personal preference, are the numbers on the dial. I think they look kind of cheap. I'd rather see this watch with roman numerals or some other basic hour indices. I like the simplicity of this kind of watch. It gives you the time and nothing else. No GMT complication, no days of the week or dates, no timers or world clocks or chronograph. It's just simply a timepiece, and there's something great about that. I don't expect this watch to last a long time. I expect the glass crystal and case to get scratched and clouded over time. I expect the leather strap (which is 20mm, contrary to this product description.) to get gross and need replacing. But then again, it's a $30 watch. It's cheaper than a lot of the cheap leather watch straps that are sold on Amazon. I truly can't complain. This is a quartz watch. In layman's terms, this means it's very accurate and runs off of a battery. You can pretty much set it and forget it until time changes. It's low maintenance compared to a true mechanical watch. So, overall, this little dress watch is a great value. You can dress it up with suits or you can dress it down with flip flops and a Hawaiian shirt. You can break it and not feel terribly guilty because it's a $30 watch that looks like a $100-150 watch. In some of these pictures, you'll see another casio watch. This is the Casio MTP-V004GL-9, and it's the watch that I got before this one in my search for something as close to the Longines as I could get for cheap. These watches look very different, but I like this watch better due to the thinner bezels, smaller size, and lack of crown guards. My ideal watch would be the case and strap of this watch, with the more elegant dial of the other watch. If you're looking for something slightly chunkier and less formal than this, then you may want to consider the MTP-V004GL-9. Cheers! They're very reliable for the price and, although sometimes they come without a box, all of the ones I've received from Amazon have been in good condition.

Awesome watch, don't love the strap but that's just preference. It's wears on the wrist just fine, really only an aesthetic thing. I have three Casio watches and they are all great. Leather bands don't corrode like metal ones, so that's a plus as well.

Just received this watch, looks nice and clean. I will be using it for dress for a while. It is reasonably priced if it will keep good time as my previoous Casio watches have. Lost one star because the watch was running when I opened the box it came in. Battery life for this model is stated to be 3 years, don't know how long it has been setting on the shelf running before being shipped. I have high expectations, we will see.

Looks exclusive, but are cheap. Does more than quite well. Casio knows how to put things together! Why buy a 'lex?!
