Alas I stumbled upon this book and it is AMAZING!!
My sister-in-law always has stuff to do henna and we're always wondering what kind of designs to do and how to do them! Alas I stumbled upon this book and it is AMAZING!!!! Not only does it walk you through easy to make henna paste but it also helps you learn some of the most beautiful patterns you will always see. As a creative type with no sense of drawing skills or abilities this book is perfect! My sister-in-law was STOKED to have someone else do a henna tattoo for her, instead of her always having to be the artist. Though none of my art came out like the ones in the book (refund please? ;P), they certainly came out a heck of a lot better than they did before! The book does a great job of introducing you to things simply rather than overhwelming you. What I mean by this is it does a great job of introducing small subjects like flowers or leaves instead of entire hand designs, which makes learning so much easier. It's so fun to practice too! The further you get into the book the more advanced it gets - but it still does things in stagesg for example it still does step by step for hand designs and shows you how to build on top of it. It is so much fun!!! You can skip around easily and learn at your own pace. I lovei t!

A Treasure Trove of Henna Designs!
Henna tattoos are a beautiful form of art that I absolutely love to look at, and have done, but the thought of attempting it myself has always terrified me. This book is a treasure trove of elegant, decorative tattoo ideas, along with ways to use acrylic paints for henna designs. I also had no idea you could make your own henna paste so easily before I read this book! Shahid makes designing henna tattoos seem so simple - or at the very least, something anyone can do with practice. She lays out simple designs with step by step instructions, pictures, and ideas on how to make the design more intricate. Yet what I love most about this book is the history and cultural meaning of henna that Shahid includes. Henna tattoos are beautiful ways of decorating your body - but they can also hold deeper meaning, and that's something more people need to learn about.

Good Overall Intro But Not What I Expected
The designer has beautiful designs. The instructions are not the best. The photos go from step one to almost completed in the next photo. The instructions read like an article rather than diy instructions. If they were broken out into actual steps and had photos or drawings of each step it would be awesome. Or even a companion video link or something. I will probably spend some time breaking these designs down into steps for myself to follow for practice and it does give me a starting point for that so it is helpful in that regard at least. and like I said, beautiful designs to inspire! Also has a nice intro about henna and also how to make your own. I wanted more help with learning to actually do the designs but maybe it's something you just have to do to learn.

All-Natural Henna
I first encountered henna at a wedding where all the women got their hands painted. It was such a wonderful experience that I knew I wanted to continue with henna. This book showed me the supplies that I needed to make my own henna cones. I found making henna paste was really easy, and you know the natural materials that are going on your skin. The book gives tips for making dark henna stains that really show up well on palms and soles of feet – with all natural ingredients. The photo illustrations guided my progress so well and the chapter on Aftercare let my henna designs last. I stuck to the Basic Elements and built my designs from that chapter. I tried the “jewelry” look and got so many compliments. This book will lead you to so much fun! Gather your friends, have a party- DIY Henna Tattoos will guide you.

Good designs, perfect gift for my teen
Was looking for a gift book for my teen who loves to do henna. This was perfect. She already has learnt quite a few designs and am very happy with the book. Great quality and amazing pictures with simple steps.

Nice book!
I bought it for my 14-year-old daughter, and she hasn't stopped drawing on her hands and legs ever since.

If you’ve ever been interested in designing your own henna ...
If you’ve ever been interested in designing your own henna tattoos, look no further than this book! DIY Henna Tattoos begins with an introduction of how the author learned henna from her cousins growing up before quickly discovering a passion and branching off into her own designs, moving beyond human flesh and into phone case designs, candles, and other art. This book contains instructions on making your own henna paste, as well as techniques to master before moving into your own expressive style. Soon you will be piping all kinds of paisley, leaf, rose, and mandala designs with your own personalized flair.

Beautiful and complex
Aroosa Shahid’s “DIY Henna Tattoos” gives you everything you need to make beautiful Henna tattoos at home. From the basics— making henna paste, make the cellophane cone— to the complex— “intricate wrist design,” “reverse negative space design,”— this book is an all levels guide to get involved in henna. With helpful pictures and step by step instructions the book guides you through the different designs, starting from the basics, and going from there. My only complaint is that in some cases even the basics are quite intricate and require quite a bit of practice!! I particularly appreciated the pages in the beginning where Shahid explains what henna is, the cultural groundings, and shares her own story of work with henna. While the designs can be complex, the personalization and detail guides you along the way. Time to go practice!!!
