RSEN General Purpose Anvil Secateurs

Anvil (straight blade cuts down onto the centre of the flat edge 'blade' thing) are for loppers. Anvil don't suffer from twigs folding over and locking up the mechanism, but require more force and can mash the cut area slightly. For gardening/pruning secateurs you'll want the WOLF-garten 'RREN' bypass ('parrot beak') curved blade version. Bypass, as the name suggests, has a flat/blunt edged 'blade', and the cutting blade cuts beside it, like scissors (but only one sharp blade). Although some inferior (most) bypass secateurs do suffer from locking up with trapped plant matter in the bypass mechanics, the WOLF-garten version rarely does. Bypass open wider, have a cleaner cut, and require less force - all advantages over anvil secateurs. Review: As with both secateur types from WOLF-Garten, they are precision engineered with blades perfectly aligned (hence rarely trap plant material - return them if the blades rub together, I did with 1 faulty new pair); the handles are durable, easily seen (so they don't get thrown away when clearing up after), and ergonomic (gloves usually recommended); the lock is perfectly designed for thumb operation and doesn't hinder you unlike most designs; and equally great is the spring mechanism being a simple sprung bar, hidden between the handles - not those awful usual types than rust and disintegrate - not too weak to cause lock ups, not too strong to tire your grip. I have used my original (bypass) pair 'professionally' for years without fault - you just need a small tungsten carbide sharpener to keep them working like new. WOLF are not only the best secateurs ('RREN' bypass version), but are also one of the cheapest: 10/10. ...So, why did I buy this anvil version? The anvil type happens be a good design for cutting dog claws, whereas bypass might twist/fold the claw when cutting - do not copy me though, go to a dog-groomer LOL!

Well, the secateurs are fine. Just what I thought they would be. Little snippers. Perfect size. Just big enough for my hands, which are medium-to-broad male hands; comfortable enough, but no bulky plastic handles to get in the way, just a simple plastic covering over the steel handles. The blade is not replaceable, as the tool is very simply riveted together, but it is accessible for sharpening, and the whole tool is cheap enough that replaceable blades are not really necessary. I like the rounded blade end and efficient locking mechanism, as it means I can safely carry the secateurs in my pocket, with no risk of stabbing myself in the leg. I've thrown them around to see if they will open accidentally. They won't. My pair arrived in perfect alignment, so they will cleanly snip the thinnest, softest stalks, or even blades of grass, at any point along the blade from tip to pivot. Larger woody stems and small branches they of course slice through with ease. I've only used them for a couple of hours so far, to clear some brambles and unwanted tree saplings, and they were just fine. I have never owned any secateurs before, as I don't have a garden. I have used secateurs of course, but only the bypass type. I have to say I was advised by everyone I spoke to, to go for bypass secateurs rather than the anvil type, as they are more 'general purpose'. I kept trying to explain to these various sales people that I don't need 'general purpose' secateurs and am buying these for one purpose and one purpose only, which is to clear a bad bramble infestation from a fairly wide area. For that, they seem absolutely fine. No doubt bypass secateurs would have worked too, but this particular design seemed so neat and simple and robust, and I'm glad I trusted my instincts. Strangely, even a local supplier of professional gardening tools was very much steering me in the direction of bypass secateurs, and said he sold ten of them for every pair of anvil secateurs he sold. Anyway, no local supplier stocked this particular model, although many stocked the more plastic/padded-handled versions by Wolf-Garten, such as the RS2500. I wanted to get the RSEN model because they have a more rounded blade end and are slimmer and smoother in design, so more easily and safely pocketable. Ordering from Amazon was painless and quick, and they arrived the next day. Bramble clearing is quite a specialised task, in that one must chop the flailing tendrils into shorter pieces, preferably munching into the bramble patches from the outside inwards, snipping out and bagging one short length at a time, if one is to escape being lacerated around face, legs and hands by the thorns. It's amazing how quickly that simple job can become a world of pain, blood and frustration if one goes at it too hurriedly. I started the job using actual wire cutters, which were surprisingly effective, but quite tiring and fiddly. These secateurs are of course way better for the task, but they retain the simplicity (and safe pocketability) of a pair of wire cutters.

Good quality but not large enough for serious use ..

Never bought these before so took a while to check all the reviews. So glad i chose these ones as they are so comfortable to hold and dont hurt. As i have slight joint issues in one hand i was worried that you would have to close them hard to make a cut, but they just melt through the stems with relative ease. Have mostly used on stems about 1cm -2cm thick, and just for general cutting back on bushes ect. and they cut with ease. I also love the blunt edges on the blades and the little plastic cover that comes with it. Have used these at least 5 or 6 times now, enough time to judge them and can definitely recommend these and wouldn't do without these 👍🏼

Purchased for my mum who is pleased with them. She did have a pair but she must have accidentally disposed of them in a garden waste bag so these were to replace those. She prefers the red colour over the old brown , says they’re the best secateurs, good grip & ideal weight and sharp.

You wouldn't believe how many different pairs of secateurs I bought !!!! - one posh pair I bought I must have sent back about 3 times because the spring kept breaking. These Wolfgarten ones are VERY ROBUST and are still snipping away, fine and dandy, without any problems 👍👍

I bought these to use whilst my Felco secateurs were being serviced, as I had a lot of cutting back and tidying up of shrubby plants to do before we moved house. They are brilliant, and represent exceptional value for money, and the actual cutting blade is almost identical to those on the Wolf Garten loppers (which are just about the best loppers around. I'm so pleased with everything about them - the sharpness of the cut, the way they sit in my hand, and the simplicity of the opening and closing mechanism - that I will almost certainly buy the general purpose bypass secateurs as well. Regarding the size, I am female with medium hands and they sit very happily in my palm. My husband has also used them this morning and he has much larger hands but he also found them very comfortable. They are far and away the best budget secateurs around, and 'knock the socks off' the Alan Titchmarsh/RHS endorsed Bulldog secateurs.

I would recommend these secateurs. They are long lasting - I use them for many hours at work - my old ones didn't wear out, I lost them! They have a rounded end so I can put them in my pocket without making holes. The handles have long-lasting plastic sleeves (not padded) which don't easily come off, and combined with the shape of the handles make them comfortable to use. The spring and safety catch are encased so they don't come loose and get lost. The anvil is metal and hard wearing and the blade seems to take a lot of use and remains sharp. The blade doesn't go out of line and there is no adjustment necessary after prolonged use as they are riveted rather than bolted together. They are fine for light pruning and are quite robust. Although top quality by-pass secateurs may make a cleaner cut for example on soft stems,in my experience most cheaper by-pass in this price range often go out of line or need frequent adjusting to keep a clean "scissor-like" cut. Although the safety catch works and is reliable it can still be opened fairly easily so I would keep them out of reach of young children.

This is one of the cheapest models of the branch but surely the best. Bought a few others to have at least one ready at any moment I need it

La confezione è pregevole: la parte delle lame è protetta da una struttura di plastica rigida, è un prodotto garantito 10 anni, prodotto in Germania. Le prendo in mano e rimango piacevolmente colpito: delle belle forbici da giardino, abbastanza piccole e maneggevoli, tirate a lucido. Le provo subito: mangiano diligentemente rametti e rami di un certo spessore senza batter ciglio e con un taglio deciso e netto, e senza dover faticare. Non ho mai avuto delle forbici con una sola lama tagliente come questa, ma me ne sono subito innamorato. La chiusura di sicurezza è immediata e semplice, l'oggetto leggero ma solido. Promosse a pieni voti, raccomandato per una pulizia ordinaria di piante con rami piccoli e medi.

I just wished that these still had a wider jar like they made years ago. It is still a great little garden tool.
