HUIT Figure 8 Descender with Anti-Twist Shape

Used as a rigging plate in a canyon context - tension/release techniques work fantastically with the shape - it's less ideal for releasable blocks and smooth lowers due to the shape. I carry one of these and one round 8 device on my kit as a result.

I purchased this product to toe my mare to trailer. I find the lead rope slides slowly through this descended thus preventing her from panicking it rope is tight. It's value priced, sturdy and clean as rope slides gently through. Great product.

The Petzl Huit is a must have item for rappelling or emergency descents. When attached to your harness via a carabiner it adds little to overall weight. In military or emergency services it's a common practice to use double ropes. Using multiple carabiners to create a descender, I've had the two ropes foul and jam, this has never happened with the Petzl Huit. Braking is easily accomplished as is belaying to go hands free. During a fast rappel, the descender can get quite hot, Petzl included a polymer tab that provides a gripping surface insulated from the descender body. ThePetzl Huit Anti-Brulure Descender is a great addition to your kit. I recommend it.

my preferred figure 8 because they are different than most canyoneers are using so it is easy to ID what is mine.

Good, basic descender. I use when rappelling at the Pinnacles. Nothing overly SUPER about it but it does what it was intended to do and is holding up well.
