The factory key is hard to disassemble, but once you get your key out, you can throw everything else away. The new key comes with every part you need. It was trivial to reconstruct and works better than the factory key. I love my new keys!

I knew I was buying some made in China shell but didn't realize that I was getting a 1:1 factory replica. It looks identical to the oem shell. The internals are very slightly off as I found this out while trying to swap my old key into this new shell. It won't fit without some mods. But if you plan to cut this key then you have no problems here. Just swap the internals and you are good to go. Great fob shell for the price. You won't be disappointed.

Arrived promptly and was exactly as described. Was hard to figure out how to open up the case but I eventually pried open. Watched a few YouTube videos to figure out how to disassemble my original key and put the circuitry and battery into the new case together. I tried to use my original key shaft, but it doesn't fit -- one side of the case has a plastic part that is ever so slightly larger than fits into the shaft. There were a few videos showing people filing it down but I couldn't figure out how to do it. In the end I used the blank shaft that came with it and took it to a locksmith to laser cut the key. That cost an extra $25 but overall way more cost effective than the dealer replacement. Minus one star for the original shaft not fitting -- seems like an easy fix and for the feel of the plastic which I don't really like compared to the original LR key.

Purchased this to replace cover for my LR3 06-LR. I did not replace my battery-as it was working fine. I believe a new battery will have to be soldered in. 1st-Breaking apart my old one wasn’t easy but not as hard as I expected. I used angled needle-nose pliers...that have L Shaped tips. Flip the key open and put the angled ends into the key hide-away space ...securing the fob from moving...and force the pliers apart...separating the old case. Carefully open casing and remove the key and motherboard. Now...take apart your new fob and removing the uncut key you are going to take the tiny pin out...that is holding it into the swivel hub. You will need a tiny punch and small hammer. Also, Remove the pin from the your old key where it connects into it’s swivel hub so you can swap out the keys. *Be careful not to loose the tiny parts. The old key will need to fit into the slot of the new swivel hub. This is where you may need to file the key to fit into the new hub slot. The old key may be slightly thicker. You will need a fine, flat, metal file...carefully file just enough to make it fit...continually checking. You may need to file width and or a little length. Compare the ends and only remove a small amount at a time. Once key fits put the pin back in and assemble the new key fob. Your key should work perfectly! I did watch a few videos and picked up some pointers ...such as winding the spring so key flips open correctly.

The plasric boss that fits into a recess in the key blade retainer (the shiny metal bit that the blade is installed into) is not the same diameter as the stock key case. Just a bit too big. Since I was unable to remove the pin holding the blade into the retainer, I thought I'd just replace the old assembly into the new case... too bad, since the boss won't fit into the circular recess around the spring loaded button area on which the whole thing pivots, the case won't snap closed. Forcing the case closed means that (it's not really closed) and the key blade assembly binds on the housing instead of rotating freely. So the only solution until I buy a different one, is the leave the key completely open. Not very helpful.

I’d offer a few points to add to others’ comments about the different dimensions between the oem case and this replacement case. I did not have a new key cut for my new case - I just had a worn out oem case and just needed the case itself. You can find videos on how to open and replace the parts in the case - this review addresses only the fit/sizing issue. Ultimately, I put my oem “key” and chip into this new case. That could have been done relatively easily by just sanding/filing down the outside diameter of the circular plastic part in the upper right corner of the new case (see first picture), popping in my existing key and chip, and then screwing the new case back together. However, because of the fit between the oem key (specifically, the part identified as part “1” in the second picture) and the new case, an alternative to filing/sanding the new case was to use just the key “blade” from the oem key (part “2” in the second picture), and insert that into the circular steel “part 1” that comes with the new case. That would avoid the need to sand/file down the new case. The diameter of the circular plastic piece on the replacement case (picture 1) is slightly larger (~1mm) than the same piece on the oem case, and that makes it difficult to close the replacement case with “part 1” of the oem key in it. In lieu of sanding down the plastic piece in the new case, at first I tried to just use my oem key blade (part 2) with the circular piece (part 1) that came with the new case by popping out the pin that holds them together (“part 3” in picture 2). Unfortunately, when I was trying to hammer out “part 3” to remove the blank key blade from the new case, I broke off a piece of steel that I was using to remove part 3, and couldn’t remove the blank key blade from the new case. Plan b was to use my oem key (parts 1 and 2) and file down the case . It took a half dozen or so attempts at putting the whole thing together and then taking it apart to test the fit, but I eventually got it right. Once I’d sanded enough of the new case down, I was able to get the new case to close fully and was able to get the key to “flip” open without resistance. The whole process took me probably 90 minutes, but would take only 15 or so if I were to do it again knowing what I know now.

This worked perfectly for us. I replaced the shell of the key, but kept the actual hard key. There is a slight difference in size in the one that was included. We haven’t had a new one cut, so the only issue is that it doesn’t “spring” out when you press the button. You have to kind of get it in and out with your finger. Other than that, Perfect and saved us hundreds of dollars.
