Great kindle for kids
My daughter loved it! She’s a big reader and has the tendency to start a lot of books at once. This helps her keep track of all of them. She likes that it feels similar to the books she reads. She’s able to easily read her books and adjust the font or brightness on her own. Coming with the case is so great, because it reminds her to keep it covered to protect her screen. She is able to navigate the touch screen features easily and look up and download books with no problems. I’d highly recommend for someone who has a child that loves to read and move on to books quickly. This keeps her busy and helps her continue loving to read.

Beautiful Case and Perfect for Kids of All Ages!
My daughter had been expressing interest in reading, so I bought her the kids version of my kindle and she loves it! It came with 6 months of Amazon Kids for free, and that in itself made it worth the price I paid for it. The battery lasts forever, and it was sooo easy to set up. It only allows her to read books, so it doesn’t have any other distractions like a tablet would. Setting it up took no time at all. It was fast. It also downloads books really fast too. The backlight allows for her to read at night, and has been helping her fall asleep without her tv and that’s a big deal. It’s designed really nicely and the built in case protects the kindle perfectly from drops. I love the beautiful colors on the case.

Cant Recommend more
If you are hesitant about buying an e-reader for your child, don't be. The Amazon Kindle Kids 16GB has been an absolute game-changer in our house! The best part is that it is strictly a reading device—no YouTube, no app store, no games, and zero distractions. Our daughter sits down with it and actually stays focused on her books. The screen is clear and glare-free, and the built-in dictionary has done wonders for her vocabulary because she can look up new words on the spot. The included Amazon Kids+ membership gives her access to endless series, and as a parent, I love tracking her progress through the Parent Dashboard. Plus, the 2-year worry-free replacement guarantee and included protective cover mean I don't have to stress about drops or spills. It's durable, portable, and has easily doubled her reading time. Worth every single penny!

A *SLOW* piece of outdated junk
I bought this as a gift for my 7-year old who loves reading. Nothing about setting it up was smooth, the biggest offenders being a painfully slow and laggy interface and a lot of complexity around sharing books with a child account. - Turning pages is slooooow; sometimes it feels unresponsive and we end up turning multiple times before the first attempt registers, and then it turns 3-4 pages all at once. An extremely distracting experience. - Navigating to other parts of the book is a nightmare, again due to the severe lagginess. I think they used rejected processors from the late 80's to build this, it's that slow. - Challenge reading library books: If you plan on borrowing books from the library to read on your Kindle, prepare to jump through many hoops! I need to get it through 4 different apps each time to get it to my account and then share it with my kid, and it has to be done one book at a time - and after all that, the books sometimes don't show up! It's probably faster and easier for me to drive to the library and pick the books up there. - Some books would simply not show up even after sharing and these were child rated books. Honestly, why call it "Kindle Kids" if you can't even get the basics right of making it usable for kids? - After all that, finding books is a chore - the interface sucks, and the lagginess makes everything a hundred times worse. Each time I open the Kindle, it's many minutes before my kid can get started reading. For the pros: - The form factor is good and the size is perfect for a kid to hold and read, and it is lightweight. - Battery life is great, but that might be because we don't use it as much - The screen isn't too bright, and the color contrast is good even for bedtime (though my daughter usually never fell asleep reading on the Kindle because she was frustrated with the slowness) Two months in, the kindle is gathering dust, and we're back to haunting the library. Unfortunately it's past the return window. Don't fall for all the 5-star reviews of people who bought it for someone else, or reviewed it within the first few days when the novelty made them look past the issues. It was probably a great idea back when it first came out, but you're better off using Libby or some other app on a phone or tablet for your kid to read. What should Amazon do: - Fix the slowness / lagginess. We're not in 1980 any longer, nobody presses a button and waits 5 seconds for it to register! - If you advertise it as Kindle Kids, fix your UI and make it easier to share books with a Kids profile. Verdict: Stay away from this outdated piece of junk!

A hit!!!!!
Got this for my daughter’s 8th birthday. What a hit! It’s a great choice if you want to give them the illusion of an electronic, but with limited access. Compact, easy to carry, and the charge lasts a very long time. The device already comes with a protective case. Upon using it myself, it’s a little slow to react to touch. Desperate fingers may have a hard time :) The platform offers many parental control choices. Not the easiest to navigate, but you get the hang of it. I’ve purchased books for my daughter through my own device and downloaded them to hers. She also has free choices that filter through the controls (with the Unlimited plan).
