I now own three Kindles and the basic/entry-level model has become my go-to for travel and throwing in a bag or pocket. It’s noticeably smaller and lighter than the Paperwhites, which makes a real difference when you’re on the move. Pros: - Super compact and lightweight — perfect for travel or one-handed reading - Excellent battery life - Sharp screen and fast enough performance for comfortable reading - Cheapest way to get into the Kindle ecosystem - Easy to hold for long periods Cons: - No waterproofing (so not great for pool/beach/tub reading) - No warm light / night light color temperature adjustment (it’s cool white only) I made two short comparison videos — one focused on this base Kindle and one comparing it directly to the Paperwhite — so you can see the size difference and real-world feel. If you want the smallest, lightest Kindle for travel or everyday carry and don’t need waterproofing or fancy night lighting, this is the one to get. It does the core job extremely well and the price makes it a no-brainer. Highly recommend for anyone who values portability over extra features.

I had regular kindles more than 10 years ago but got the fire and didn't bother with them. I didn't want to read on my phone. I wanted this but somehow got the Kindle White. I found it heavy with the case so for the first time, I sent it back. I got this. I'm so happy with it. It's very light (lighter than my phone in the case) and you can hold with one hand. Also, the reason I got the white was so I could read at night. It turns out you can read at night with this easily. It has light so you can adjust the brightness. The screen size is adequate and I've read a lot more since getting it. The battery life is decent. I'll add that I had the a Kindle Fire from January 2015 that was still working and charging and I traded that in. I hope this is a good quality also.

I bought this for my husband after how much he like my Kindle Paperwhite and I was pleasantly surprised to find I liked the Basic just as much if not more in some ways. Being slight smaller than the Paperwhite makes it feel noticably lighter and that makes it much easier to hold. The text is crisp and clear and the adjustable sizing makes it easy to read whether you're holding it or propping it up. The adjustable lighting makes it very gentle on the eyes for nighttime reading. It's a pretty sturdy little device and it does everything you could possibly want a portable library to do.

As an avid Kindle reader and someone who had the original white DX and then the 2, God, I miss those Keyboards. I bought this for my mom, who wanted to read books over the summer in Greece. I bought this on Prime Day for 89 dollars. It is so cute. It is smaller than my Kindle. My mom likes it because it is lightweight. I can adjust the font on it, because she has difficulty seeing print in books, which is small. She is now taking it everywhere with her. I taught her how to use it, which was very simple for her. She wanted me to download the classic books for her. When I went to look for them, I had to pay for them. Luckily, I downloaded them all 18 years ago for free and found them in my Kindle History of books. I did not even know they were still there because it has been forever . I like how the purchase came with 3 months of Kindle Unlimited. But I already paid for but it put a freeze on mine and will start taking the payments again in October. Overall, I am happy that she is happy.

I am thoroughly enjoying this Kindle, it is lightweight and so easy to read that I find myself reading even more than I used to. Being able to adjust the screen so easy makes it easy on my eyes, and the easy to access dictionary helps with the readability of any book I choose. Page turns are very fast, as are uploads. Battery life is very good, lasts for over a week and I am on the Kindle every day. It is an excellent purchase and I am planning to buy another as a gift.

This new kindle is smaller than the older one Amazon no longer supported, but the screen size is almost the same. It is lightweight which is nice. It's great in the daylight at the beach. I don't like the light, for night time. I much prefer the old kindle without light. I turned the light off, but the effect, or the way it looks on the screen isn't the same. However one other thing to note, definitely get the kindle with ads. It's literally only on the screen until you turn it on and start reading. After kindle is open you don't see the ad again. It just replaces the old picture of pencils. I promise you won't regret the ads. I took a picture of one of the ads.

I’ve been loving this Kindle! The green color is super cute, and it’s so lightweight that I can take it anywhere. The 16 GB storage is plenty for all the books I want to download, and the battery seems to last forever. If you love reading, I definitely recommend it!

As is said - best thing since sliced bread! Could never understand my previous Kindle, but this is so easy to set up and to use. It's easy to put in a handbag or whatever one carries. It will accelerate your wish to read as it's handy, holds just about any book on earth you wish to borrow or purchase. I am so in love with it - now to find a case.......
