what is the size of the globe?

What I bought was an 8 inch illuminated globe..it's a lovely size...not too big and doesn't take up alot of space which is ideal for my son's bedroom

I have just purchased this item and can't work out how to turn the light on?? is it supposed to come on automatically when you plug in the usb?
