Excellent step in avoiding bear encounters
I camp a lot, and mostly in remote areas of National Forest lands in Colorado where there are plenty of black bears. I have an old VW campervan with a kitchen where I do most of my cooking, which can certainly be a bear attractant, so I wanted to take some steps to avoid any negative encounters and this "bear horn" is a great deterrent.I carry bear spray in the van and have done so for years, but I like this horn as a first measure to try to deter any bears from my camp, rather than waiting for it to get close enough to use the bear spray. This makes more sense as a bear deterrent in most situations, in my opinion, and does no harm to the bear.Full disclosure: I have never had a negative issue with a bear in over five decades of camping, hiking and backpacking in the wild. I've seen bears on rare occasions, but they seem to always stay clear of the camp. It may be because I always have a dog with me, but I don't want to get complacent and assume I'll never have any negative encounters. I also go on photo hikes from my various camps, and the horn is small enough to keep handy while out shooting pictures away from camp. While photographing elk one fall day, I turned around to find a big bear just 50 feet away eating berries from a bush. There was never a feeling of fear in this case since he/she was busy enjoying the berries and was completely ignoring me, but not all encounters should be expected to be so pleasant. I got some great footage of the bear, by the way!I figure being prepared for a potential bad situation is a good idea and having a little horn like this goes a long ways in being proactive in my bear encounter prep, no matter how remote the possibility. The horn itself is affordable, quite small and fits easily into a hanging mesh bag I have just by the main sliding door to the van... next to the bear spray.

As described.
Yep, it's a bear horn, just like they say. Crazy loud, just as a bear horn should be. Nice small profile is good for keeping handy in an external backpack pocket. Not much else to say, other than you should definitely wear ear protection if you decide to "test" it for whatever reason.

Smaller than they look but work great.
Product works as it should. Only reason I gave it 4 is because of the size.. they are little cans.

Mighty tool for the trial...
I hike and camp and I honestly wanted another tool for my day pack for the times I'm in bear country. I have a bear bell and spray as well a personal alarm but after an encounter with a black bear, I'd rather be safe than sorry. This little horn is loud and small enough to not take up too much room in one of the exterior pouches so it's within easy reach.

If you tent camp, it's a necessity
This isn't the first time I have ordered this, We tent camp a lot and keep bear spray and the loud horn at all times. Even my 11 year old granddaughter knows how to use each. I wouldn't camp without it, especially since we usually camp on motorcycle trips with only a tent. It works.

Not loud.
Unless it's complete silent in the area, you can't hear this horn up to a quarter mile away.

Keeps the squirrels off my deck!
Recently, I have had various wildlife coming onto my porch & some have actually tried to get in the kitchen door so I decided to try this air horn. It's VERY loud! It definitely scared off the squirrels today so hopefully it will work for racoons & foxes as well. I've never had this issue with the wildlife before so hopefully this will scare them enough to keep them off my porch!

This may save your life and protect the bears.
This bear horn fits in your hand well. I did not test the sound of this, as I have heard these before. The bears hear the horn and run from your direction. This will protect you from bears and other predators. Carry it in your pocket for easy access.
