My experience with rum doesnt quite extend to things like the Appletons 15, or similar Havana, etc, rums. But in the under £100 range, I've had most of them - for example the two Diplomatico Reservas, Havana Anejo Especia, 7, etc, Appletons estate, XO, etc, Mount Gay, Mount Gay Extra Old, Angustora 8, Matuzalem, Ron Atlantico, Pyrat, etc.The Zacapa 23 is the best value for money out of all of these - it is a blended rum from ages 15 to 23, which puts it directly in competition with rums that typically cost £200 or more (for example the higher end Havanas, the Appletons 15, etc). Even in this bracket, I'm led to believe that the Zacapa 23 is a significantly better drink. It is an emerging rum in the last ~6 years, having changed international supplier, and starting to really take over the scene especially in bars and clubs.I've also had the XO - a 25 year old version - which is not simply the same rum +2 years of aging, but rather, completely different in terms of flavour and so on.When travelling through airports, I always pick this up - £38 for a litre is a phenomenal deal.Recommend to any and all rum lovers - it is the best rum going, simply put.

Until I met my Guatemalan ex, I hadn’t heard of this. I’m English. I never had spirits straight before. I tried this and never looked back. Despite my ex being mental, this is one thing that I can thank her for. It’s beautiful. One lump of ice to bring it down in temp and mellow it, and it’s just divine. If you’ve never tried it; go for it. Do not mix it! What a waste! Peace

This rum is dangerous, and needs to come with a warning, that it is highly addictive. It is smoother than a babies bottom, and has just a hint of honey sweetness. Also, being a bourbon drinker, I love an old fashioned cocktail. Replace whisky (whiskey) or bourbon with this! Ice in a tumbler, half a teaspoon of dark brown sugar, 3-4 drops of Angostura bitters, a little Ron Zacapa 23 rum and mix until dissolved. Add 3 or 4 ice cubes, then a good double measure of rum. Peel orange rind, and then rub it around the rim of the glass, then toss it in. For utter opulence, add a kirsch soaked cherry (available by Opies, but other brands available). Voila. Welcome to the club, likely the AA (not the breakdown service) as I swear, you will be ordering crates not bottles of this amber nectar in the future.

I must say I’m not a big rum drinker but I find this rum to be very easy to drink and full of flavours 🥃
