Review: Indian Top Gun - Ever since Top Gun, any number of foreign countries have released their own films about modern aerial combat. Dating from 2024, Fighter is the Indian version. The storyline references the long conflict between India and Pakistan over the disputed mountainous areas of Jammu and Kashmir. An Islamic terrorist group targets an Indian Air Force base. In response, a team of elite pilots is put together to counterattack the terrorists’ stronghold. Meanwhile, there is a romantic subplot involving a male and female pilot, who bond over the pleasure of a shared mission. While the plot is derivative, the film works extremely well in a visual sense, with spectacular scenes of aircraft in flight over the Himalayan peaks. Recommended.
