The Practical Watch Escapement explains the action of the escapement in terms accessible to both expert and layman. One of George Daniels' central contributions to horology is his co-axial escapement. Having observed that the dominant lever escapement begins to change its rate after a year or two - a disturbance caused by the sliding action of the impulse elements of the escapement - Daniels set about developing a mechanism that avoided this problem. The result of his efforts was the co-axial escapement, a mechanism in which he sought to combine the strengths and eliminate the deficiencies of existing watch escapements, the lever escapement foremost among them. First devised in 1977, today it remains largely the same as fitted in watches of Daniels' own manufacture, as well as those of several wrist-watch manufacturers. The text is accompanied by a series of detailed line drawings. Review: A must - Wonderful book. Both technical and comprehensible enough. Lots of information on the different escapements throughout history, and the the coaxial, of course. Review: Detailed Book - Well illustrated and technical book for any watch enthusiast

Don’t buy if you’re purchasing Daniels’ Watchmaking book
The book content is basically a chapter in the book Watchmaking, so unless you’re only interested in watch escapements, it’s better value to buy Watchmaking but don’t buy both, that’s for sure.

Dusappointed of Hastings
Interestingly I couldn't find a review when thinking if buying this. I had a voucher and took a chance; thinking anything by the great man must be good. I was disappointed 😞 but only because I have a copy of Watchmaking by Mr Daniels and there us hardly anything different in this. If you don't have Watchmaking and want an excellent book on escapement you can't go wrong, otherwise save your money.

Highly technical and great.
This book is is a fantastic treatment on the subject, but be warned, it's not an overview for hobbyists. It's a highly technical textbook for watch markers. I'm going to have to read this 6 times to wrap my head around it.

Must have
Für Uhrmacher ein "must have" in welchem der Altmeister seine Sicht eines modernen Hemmungssystems erklärt. spannend und logisch nachvollziebar. Warum da früher niemand darauf gekommen ist???
