I already own LaCie hard drives; 4gb Thunderbolt, 20gb 5Big Thunderbolt so, when I needed a portable drive for backing up photos and videos whilst on assignment, LaCie was my first choice. I’ve used this drive throughout the year with absolutely no issues. It’s quick enough, and has never left me down as a backup when out and about. The rubber protective skin is handy for some protection if you were to drop it. There’s not much else to say other than, if you need a portable external drive, you should seriously consider this. If I needed an additional drive I’d buy another one of these.

Works fine and appears robust so far. Connected to my 2009 i-Mac via the Firewire 800 port and backing up happily via Time Machine. Bought it to replace my ageing Apple Timecapsule which suddenly refused to connect. The LaCie was a much cheaper option than another Timecapsule (I no longer needed the wifi functionality), but because I wanted a Firewire800 connection for speedier backups (No USB3 on my older iMac), I was limited on which portable hard-drives were available ... USB3 only drives are cheaper! I would have given this 5 stars if it were £10 cheaper.

This device has completely rejuvenated my mid-2011 iMac. Having installed the operating system onto the SSD, the iMac boots in about 40 seconds, compared to about 4 minutes when it was running off the internal hard drive. It's like having a new computer, and the applications open almost instantaneously too. The spinning beachball, indicating a hanging program, is now a thing of the past. I cannot recommend this SSD enough for this reason. (But it must be pointed out that it won't do the same for every machine - only if the computer has a Thunderbolt connection.) For anyone wanting to do the same as me, I recommend the Twelve South BackPack for iMac (https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00C1C1WU2/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_4), which, though rather expensive, provides a very neat solution for stowing the SSD. I use my iMac as a TV quite a lot, and need to spin it round by 45 degrees or so, and with the shelf, the SSD goes too.

Sturdy, quiet, seems just like my other LaCie drives. Not very fast but you would need an SSD for speed.

Bought in Feb 2021 to regularly backup a MacBook Air 13” laptop. Suddenly stopped working on 24 Aug 2023; will not load on laptop. Apple Store diagnostic tests on both devices revealed fault with LaCie device (but cable is ok). Annoyed that another £95 spend is necessary to replace…..

Apparently LaCie is a premium brand of Seagate. They use a top rated disk drive (spinning or SSD) and place it in their own aluminium enclosure that is again surrounded by a bright orange rubber bump strip. Use them for my backups so I can easily store them safely away (household fire safe) and not worry about them suffering the odd knock or two.

LaCie Rugged is excellent and very fast, it has 2 things that could be better. When I saw that it was the Thunderbolt USB-C, I thought that its fixed cable would be the Thunderbolt 3 for Macs, which is the USB-C standard, or that cable could be removable so that only the cable you use the most could walk with it. Just that detail, the rest the HD is excellent.

Compré el disco duro hace unos meses, me funciona genial con el puerto Thunderbolt y el USB. La verdad que no noto más velocidad en el puerto thunderbolt con respecto al puerto USB como dice el anuncio. Pero bueno como siempre tengo algo conectado en los puertos USB me va muy bien tenerlo conectado por Thunderbolt. Pero si te estás pensando comprar un modelo de Rugged, casi te recomendaría más el SSD de la misma marca solo con puerto USB y te ahorrarás dinero. Después de registrar el producto me entero que este disco duro no tiene acceso a un Cloud como si decía el anuncio. Así que si tu ilusión es tener espacio cloud de Lacie, este no es el producto que buscabas. En cuando a resistencia tiene mucha, y muy buena protección. Y excelente la garantía de 3 años y puedes aumentarla hasta 4.

Used to have one some time ago for Mac but misplaced it with all the moving I do. A very sturdy and satisfying product which I highly recommend.

Fenomenal disco duro externo, con buena capacidad y un acabado que lo hace robusto ... No tienes que preocuparte por las caídas !!!
