Incredible player for the price
Without doing long long review as they are all across net.I compared and own AK SR25 and I think this player is actually better than device costing 2x as much.It drives on low gain my HIFIMan 1000SE, Arya and Sundaras with no problem at all where AK struggles a bit.Quality top notch, battery like decent the only small downside is the HiBy app.Bluetooth awesome for those public transport trips and works great with 1000mx wireless headphones.Comes with case too which is nice touch.

Great sound, awkward buttons
I'm at the amateur end of the audiophile spectrum, having recently re-discovered hi-res audio. I chose the R4 as the price seemed decent, reviews good, spec good for the price.I am not disappointed. It sounds great through my Sennheiser Momentum 4s (wired) and also HD 599s.Battery seems strong, its brand new of course its strong, but it looks to have a large capacity for multiple days of use.The onboard equaliser is epic and allows an incredible level of fine tuning. I'm really happy with the sound this thing produces. The operating system is relatively simple being Android. The one disappointment is the physical buttons. Whilst I am grateful for there to even be chunky buttons, they are temperamental. The play/pause button sometimes doesn't work first time. Sometimes it does. Sometimes it needs a 2nd press, almost like it needs waking up. In addition it is all too easy to accidentally pick up the unit and accidentally press a button. Sliding the R4 into a pocket triggers the buttons too. Annoying. But since i only really listen to music at my work desk, its not a huge problem.I'm yet to download any music to the device or use its expandable storage, choosing to stream via Tidal so far. It has been everything I wanted and I'm happy with it.

Great DAP especially with DSD
I bought the R4 due to its specs indicating that it had been designed to cater for DSD files independently from PCM processing. The DSD playback is truly excellent, sounding very natural compared to the same music via hi-res PCM ( using Stevie Wonder's Musiquarium pcm & dsf files ).That said, PCM sounds surprisingly less "digital" compared to my Hidizs DAP.It's a genuine very high quality hifi source, proving to be superior to cd playback ( using Eric Clapton unplugged cd & dsf files )The R4 is a great value for money DAP which is especially capable with DSD playback. Highly recommended.

Good for the money
I have a Fiio M11S that I manged to bounce off the foot of my chair and crack the screen. I sent that to China for repair and sat without a music player. Then I bought an M300 which couldn't drive my cans. I sold that and bought this. It is good. It is also nicely styled IMO. I bought a separate strap which is also v good. The MSEB equaliser is beyond me but is very capable. It sounds quite neutral and I can't quite get the bass to where I like it. I would recommend it but...my music is on a separate sd card for convenience although I write to it though usb typically. From fiio to hiby no issue. From hiby to fiio however there appears to be some incompatibility in file format. Even though they look the same, neither the fiio nor my laptop can see anything written to the sd card whilst it was mounted in the R4. I had to delete the files in the R4 then rewrite the to the sd card from my laptop. So. Yeah. That's a thing.

Absolutely terrible and Dangerous device - DO NOT BUY
Item arrived fine and no obvious signs of damage to packaging or device itself, but within the first couple hours of use it go soo hot that it straight up burnt my hand and now won't even turn on, which has me thinking the battery has also been damaged which is now just a straight up fire hazard. Can't even return the item now as went to post it back and the lady at the post office said that due to the potential damaged battery and state of the item it would be illegal to post it back to Amazon, so now just have to dispose of it at an authorised recycling place. And I assume I won't ever see my money back for this item, so that was a waste of like £236. DO NOT BUY!!!

Solid, expensive and a delight
I must have bought nearly a dozen different mp3 players over the years. Finally one that not only gets the hardware right but also the software. Some of the older tracks I've listened to are like hearing them for the first time. More importantly almost is the ease of using the interface. So often a let down on cheaper players this 73 year old managed to access all aspects with ease - navigating swiftly through the layers. My only request on future releases would be a consistent 'back' button but that's a really minor niggle. Top tip: rip to FLAC for best results.
