Good Choice
An established product that has been around for yeaars. The installation for me was easy as the wiring was the same and they were the exact same size as the old ones that were well past there prime. One of the things that I liked is that Kidde moved away from the 9 volt battery to 2 AA batteries. I always have plenty of those around. The only thing that I will have to get use to is the LED light is much brighter than the old Kiddes were. The Kiddes were more expensive than others offered by Amazon but for around 2.50 bucks a year per unit for 10 years, that is pretty cheap security.

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
This item was to replace the old ones that were already installed in my home. The Good These were very easy to install, but then again I already had other ones wired. The fit in the same receptacle, and seem to be good quality. Battery life doesn't really apply, since they are hardwired in my case. The Bad They work very well, now when I 'try' to cook and the kitchen fills with smoke they go off like crazy. The alarm is definitely loud enough. The Ugly The wiring in my house was actually not up to code. When I installed the final one I couldn't figure out why it was not behaving correctly. I am actually very glad I bought this multi pack because if I hadn't I never would have found the mistake the previous home owner had made when he wired the basement.

Reliable Safety Upgrade!
I recently replaced all my smoke detectors, which were over 15 years old, with the Kidde Hardwired Smoke Detector featuring AA Battery Backup. The installation was a breeze—swapping out the old units was straightforward, and the wiring was incredibly easy to manage. The additional LED warning light is a nice touch, providing an extra layer of reassurance. While I haven’t had to rely on them yet, I feel confident knowing they are in place and ready to alert me when needed. The product seems like an excellent investment in home safety. I’m looking forward to having reliable protection for years to come!

Easy Replacement, Excellent Value, Performs Well—Minor Shipping Issues.
We needed to replace our older FireX wired smoke detectors. Since Kidde acquired this brand, the wiring was very similar, and installation was simple. All I had to do was remove the old connector and attach the new one. While convert adapters are available, they weren’t necessary, and you can save money by handling the wiring yourself if you’re comfortable with this easy task. Directions were included, which made the process straightforward. These detectors are much less expensive than buying them at retail, and they work as expected. The only downside was delivery—it took longer than usual, though still within the stated shipping range. Additionally, the detectors were shipped in their original boxes rather than a protective cardboard outer box. Some of the boxes were slightly squished, but thankfully none of the detectors were damaged. This is an area that could definitely be improved. Overall, I would highly recommend this product.

Great Smoke Detector Replacement
I purchased another brand, which I liked, but the unit(s) failed at install. So, I tried Kidde. The directions were good, but the print was small. Also, hardware likes screws and wire nuts were not included. I turned off house breaker and tested house wires for power. Then, reading the directions again and watching a Kidde install video, I installed 10 of these units in my house. There was a slight learning curve. But, after install, I applied power again, they all worked perfectly without a single chirp! Testing was quick and easy. I recommend buying the ten-year battery model as the AA model batteries must be replaced once a year. The ten-year battery models were available if I wanted to wait another week for delivery. Kidde claims these alarms are “UL listed” which I need to meet my city building code. These were a great smoke detector replacement.

Needs to be wired the hard way. Firex-to-Kidde Adapter doesn't work.
Replacing a 2003 Firex Smoke alarm. One of 7 inline wired alarms throughout the house. Apparently Firex are no longer made or sold. Kidde advertises they replace Firex. All I needed was a small, inexpensive adapter to adapt the Kidde electrics to the Firex wiring in the ceiling. It took a week or more to get the adapter, and when it came, it was obvious that it fits perfectly into the house's Firex wires, but does NOT plug into a Kidde Smoke alarm. At all. I am not an electrician, so I don't enjoy having to cut and splice new wires into my home's fire security system. I was hoping the adapter would allow me to install it without having to go through all that, but it looks like I'm going to be an electrician after all. I don't like not having a working smoke alarm in the kitchen. I have to do this the hard way.

Finally, no searching for a replacement 9v battery in the middle of the night!
I got this to replace an old (2012) interconnected Kidde unit that was giving false alarms. Although the mounting plate and wiring plug were different, total install time was about 5 minutes. I spent more time shutting off the correct breaker, getting a step stool, and finding the Phillips screwdriver I had hidden in a safe but forgotten place than actually installing this. But by far my favorite part is that the backup batteries are two AAs, rather than a 9v. No more scavenging other devices in the house at 2:00 a.m. to replace a beeping low battery because no one keeps extra expensive 9vs lying around just waiting on smoke detectors to start hollering, or worse, disconnecting the detector because you cannot find a battery and you need some sleep.

Who knew?
Replaced our interconnected smoke detectors that were 17 yrs old after they started showing problems. Didn’t realize they should be replaced every ten years. Even though these are the same brand, the plugs have changed so it required removing and replacing with the new plugs which are included. Working properly again.
