Ergobaum 7G (Medical Aluminum)

I'm a 66 year-old amputee since 1994, 5'11", 175lbs. In those 28 years, I've mostly used a prosthesis, but I have extensive experience with simple forearm crutches. However, I've been suffering from an arthritic carpal-metacarpal joint on my left thumb/hand which now makes the use of rigid forearm crutches painful. I had to recently return to the use of forearm crutches because of stump issues that prevent me from donning my prosthesis. So...back to the old crutches. I began searching for a more comfortable crutch and came across the 7G. A bit pricey, but given that I'll be using them for the next few months after the upcoming re-amputation of my leg, I decided that I needed these guys! A fair warning, though. Even if you're an old pro with forearm crutches like me, these guys will take some time to properly adjust them and a bit of practice to use them. There are two factors that come into play with these new crutches and may give you cause for concern (though temporary). The first is the spring shock absorption built into the lower end of the crutch. Even though you adjust them to your height, you will immediately find that they get a little shorter in length, which causes you to bend your knee(s) a little more during each stride. At first, this is disconcerting, but you will quickly get used to it, and trust me, the shock absorbers are WORTH it! The second is the shape and "squishyness" of the handgrip as you follow-through your stride, placing your full weight upon it. It made me feel a bit unstable at first, but once I learned exactly how to hold the grip in my palm, that instability evaporated. The bottom line is that if you are gripping them incorrectly, you will experience some instability during weight-bearing on the crutch. These grips are the answer to my arthritic thumb problem and I can't praise the "ergonomic" design enough! They are heavier than normal forearm crutches, but not by much, and I don't notice it during use. I like the floor grips, which feel more stable to me. As for the "horn"...I don't really see the point, although the pitch is not identical in both crutches. In fact, as a musician, I noticed right away that there was a Major interval of a third between the two...so even though useless, they DO harmonize. 🤣 However, the light is definitely useful during those midnight trips to the restroom. As for quality...the metal components such as the shaft and adjustment locking mechanisms seem to be robust and feel solidly reliable. The upper arm rest and grip assembly, though made of a type of plastic, are equal solid and "give" in all the right ways and at the right times. I haven't had them long enough to report on any stress-tests of the upper assembly. I will say that the hand-screw adjustment of the grip angle seems surprisingly sturdy and that portion is of a solidly metal composition. I've only had these crutches for two days, and I'm certain that I'm still not finished with tweaking the height and grip/angle adjustments, but I would recommend these to anyone who has the string to use regular forearm crutches with one caveat - no matter where you are on the experience level with forearm crutches, be patient, use them and get used to them before making any judgments about them. I'm certain you'll be glad you did. Five stars from me!👍

I bought these to replace my Kmina folding crutches, and have been very happy with them. I have a neurologic disorder that cases extreme weakness in my arms and legs, so I use these everywhere. There are many areas to make small adjustments to make them more comfortable for you. The cuff loop can be flipped around the back or down in the front for short distances or to lay the crutched on top of each other in the car. The built in flashlight is actually very useful when I take my dog out at night. The hand grips are very comfortable and have made a big difference on the arthritis in my hands. The crutches fold up easily for plane trips but they do not fold up as much as my old Kmina crutches. The crutch tip is one of the biggest that I have ever seen but when wet it still maintains good traction. Despite being twice the weight of my old crutches, I have found the weight to be good and these seem a bit more stable because of the weight. The aluminum is strong enough to not dent even after the car doors have been slammed into them several times. The only feature that I don't care for is the alarm. It really doesn't seem to have a point, and it is too quiet for it to be useful. Overall these are great, and I am very happy with them.

I couldn't tell you how much this have helped me used as crutches (2) and cane (1). As a substitute for regular crutches they easier to use (less work), more stable and can be used on stairs. As a substitute for a cane same applies. The rolling action of the bottom cap actually does help you walk more naturally and the hand grip/forearm brace rather than the arm pit placement of traditional crutches are so much more comfortable. NO MORE ARM PUT ABRASSIONS! Only down side is that I lost one of the clips and have contacted the manufacturer for spare parts with NO RESPONSE. For $350+ I paid for them you think they could get back or have some ways of getting me to a place that has them. Fundamentally my two are now worthless in term of use as crutches. IF THE VENDOR READS THIS PLEASE CONTACT!!! Great product and worth that money.

The Good (Pros) Suspension System: Effectively absorbs impact, reducing the "bouncing weight" and strain on the wrists. Ergonomics: The handles are well-designed for comfort, though grip preference remains subjective. Advanced Rubber Feet: Significantly better than standard crutches; the articulating base maintains better surface contact. Mobility: Successfully provides the intended comfort and mobility required for recovery. The Bad (Cons) Brittle Plastics: Cable ties snapped easily, and more importantly, the battery compartment tabs broke immediately, requiring tools (Phillips screwdriver) just to get the device powered. Snow/Winter Performance: The high-contact grooves in the feet trap slush, making them a slip hazard on indoor floors. Flimsy Switches: The light switches lack resistance, leading to accidental battery drain when leaned against walls. Material Comfort: The lower arm security bands are too rigid and abrasive against bare skin. Alarm: The volume is too low and the frequency is hardly effective. Actionable Improvements & Tips If you are stuck with these crutches, here are a few ways to address the issues you mentioned: 1. Solving the Abrasive Arm Bands Since the security bands are "abrasive/itching," you can wrap them in moleskin tape or a neoprene sleeve. This adds a soft barrier without compromising the security of the strap. 2. Winter Safety To prevent the "sludge" issue: Keep a small stiff-bristled brush near your front door to flick out snow from the grooves before walking on smooth tile or wood. Consider using a "crutch ice spike" attachment if you frequently navigate frozen terrain. 3. DIY Utility Hook You can attach a large "S-biner" or a "Mommy Hook" (stroller clip) to the vertical shaft using heavy-duty zip ties or a hose clamp. Warning: Ensure any weight hanging from the grip does not throw off your center of gravity.

Nice crutches but a little noisy already after only owning them for a month. The springs are squeaky but they are still a nice quality product that makes you go faster than regular crutches. The handle on the left hand has made the 3 outer fingers on my left hand go numb. Hopefully it's not permanent nerve damage but it's been happening since I started using them. Surprisingly though it's not happening with the right hand so not sure what I am doing differently with my left than the right. I have tried all 3 positions because the handle goes into 3 positions and it seems to not make a difference. I can't use the highest position because then it hurts my wrist. Ugggh. Minor inconvenience though for the speed you get. I also like the straps because if I need to use just one crutch and carry something in the other hand, I can. The knee support is no good for me though because I need bilateral knee replacements and it's too painful to kneel on the little kickstand. I'm ready to take them off. The rubber stoppers on the bottom are sturdy on rocky terrain and asphalt but not good if it's wet or on slippery tile. I don't think any crutch or cane is good when it's wet anyway so this isn't unique to this product but for some reason I thought it would be sturdier when wet so just be aware of that or you may slide unexpectedly. I originally ordered these from a non prime seller (Not Ergoactives). Big Mistake! He didn't pack them correctly and they broke because they were shipped in a garbage bag. This seller on the other hand shipped them in a nice sturdy box. So Order them from Prime by Ergoactives. Serious company. I've yet to find use for the little horn and have not used the light but they seem nice features. They give you extra batteries too. Sadly I'll be using crutches probably for the rest of my life so am glad I found a nice product and company that I can order from again and again. Thanks.

What don’t how to start, I received my Ergobaum 7G with great expectations since my under arm crutches kind of hurts, I’m 5’7” 170lbs with a fractured stress fracture femur and a root meniscus tear and on a 3 months no weight bearing healing period, I had for a few days, in taking my regulars steps on a flat surface the button of the right crutch where the rubber feet is attached fall off as I’m lifting the crutch I stumble since now the right crutch is 4” shorter then the other by the Grace of God for some unknown reason my wife stepped in front of just in time to support me from falling, oh my gash, I know one thing I would not e writing this right now I. Would be in emergency room somewhere with who knows what injuries. So dangerous, how can this happen? How can something made to protect you has the potential to hurt you do to poor quality control?

These Ergobaum 7th generation forearm crutches were purchased for my daughter (25) who has Cerebral Palsy. She had been using standard metal cuffed forearm crutches for a couple of years but was never able to get to the point of being highly functional in using them. They just didn’t work for her. A new Physical Therapist suggested she try these. They were a GAME CHANGER! Change was evident from her first trial with these new crutches - specifically, the design of the bottom of the crutch is much safer, better grip on the floor surface and allows her to focus on crutch placement and navigating her environment. She feels safer, more confident in using them. She also notes the crutch grips (formed as a grip) are easier to hold and maneuver. The angle and material used in the cuffs make them more customizable to her forearms. They just fit her and her needs. So glad she has these - with continued practice/experience, I have no doubt in her ability to use these functionally. They have our highest recommendation.

These crutches have some fantastic ideas, but the execution is lacking/inconsistent. Within hours of first using them, the forearm adjustment pin failed. The forearm adjustment works with a small plastic pin, that slides inside a tube between two holes. The problem is that whoever designed these put the seam of the two plastic halves down the middle splitting the adjustment holes in two. This causes the pin to actually push the two halves apart and pop back down to the lowest setting when pressure is applied. Given my size, they don't feel stable at the lower setting, so they have to go back This problem could be solved by making using some form of plastic welding on the seam, placing some type of o-ring in the holes to distribute the pressure better, or relocating the pin placement to the sides maybe. An even better solution would be to make the base of the forearm assembly out of metal, or some type of stronger material, as the crutches feel like they have a lot of twist to them, and they want to squirm around. The spring rates in the base were different in both of my crutches, with the right crutch having noticeably more give. This caused an unstable, twisting sensation when using them. As noted in some other reviews, the plastic bands for the cuffs very cumbersome to use with one hand. It would really help to have a quick release that can easily be operated with one hand, especially for those that like to have the forearm strap very snug. The lights on the crutches are very handy. The switch would probably be better placed on the outer side as opposed to the back where they currently are, and maybe use a button instead of a switch, but it's still workable I definitely prefer the feet on these compared to regular crutches. Not just for movement, but their shape makes it a bit easier to manipulate things on the ground. The adjustable handle is very good, and allowed me to set a position that is very comfortable to hold. I am skeptical of its longevity as it's interior also seems to be plastic. For now though, it is working well. I'm 6'2" 235 lbs athletic, muscular build, and am using these for getting around after an achilles tendon surgery. If you're a smaller/lighter person I'm sure you probably won't have to face the flex/twisting issues I have with these. If you're heavier though, you may want to reconsider unless they do something to improve the design. As it is I have to send these back, because with the forearm cuff being at the top setting to support my arm length, these just aren't confidence inspiring.

These are fantastic, I have a spinal injury and need help walking. I walked 90km with them and snow, ice, sandy beaches and cobblestone and they were great. Handles are soft rubber, so I got no blisters and they are very adjustable and fold up to fit in a suitcase.

Las compré para mi hijo, el es amputado de pierna izquierda recientemente y jamás había utilizado muletasy estas le dieron seguridad y excelente movilidad. Se desarman y eso para viajar es muy práctico porque no estorban, adicional vienen con luces que son de mucha utilidad cuando damos caminatas nocturnas. Vienen con un tipo soporte en cada muleta qué es como para descansar la pierna en el caso de que se utilicen por fractura, como no es el caso, mi hijo decidió retirarlos y eso las aligeró. Él dice que son muy cómodas y tanto le han gustado que ya compramos otras pero ahora de fibra de carbono para que sean más ligeras. En verdad son muy buenas muletas. Como dato mi hijo mide 1.85 mts y pesa 81 kilos
