The complete original album Tonight Only! (Columbia CS8409), the first out of three collaborations between Dave Brubeck and singer Carmen McRae. Five extra songs presenting McRae backed by the Dave Brubeck Trio have been added here as a bonus, including a rare reading of "There'll Be No Tomorrow" that also appears here on CD for the first time ever.

A Timeless Duet Classic Is Restored To Completion!
Now Here Is Another Expanded Jazz Classic That Belongs In The MP3 Dept' ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fresh off the blockbuster success of his crowning achievement Time Out and it’s highly versatile sequel Time Further Out, Dave Brubeck would again impress the jazz scene in 1961 when he teamed up with jazz vocalist Carmen McRae for this lovely duet masterwork. Featuring a first rate guest appearance by McCrae, Tonight Only! showcases a memorable sparkling duet performance by the great jazz pianist- composer and acclaimed jazz chanteuse as the collaboration brings out the remarkable artistry from The Dave Brubeck quartet performing alongside McRae’s uncommon talent as they reveal the meaning of a song done in robust style. Joyfully consisting of music written by Brubeck (some of the songs would be written by him and his wife Iola) and two members of his band, the delightful track set begins with ‘blues from an opera-in-progress’ Melanctha as it conclude in stunning harmony on other highly-crafted tracks, like Weep No More, Walkin’ And Talkin’ (composed in style by Eugene Wight), Paradiddle Joe, Late Lament (composed by Paul Desmond), the piano solo-oriented Tristesse, Tonight Only, and In The Lurch. Remastered in it’s complete expanded format, this definitive edition of Tonight Only! features stunning bonus tracks left out of the making of the album as it features McCrae and Brubeck in trio form (except for Desmond) which include a rare reading of There’ll Be No Tomorrow and the final track My One Bad Habit, presented here for the first time on CD, which makes it an even greater and better edition, one that will live up as a rewarding duet classic.Note: You know, I would appreciate if you give the complete edition of Tonighly Only!by Dave Brubeck and Carmen McRae (Bonus Track Version) the long-awaited MP3edition treatment that it truly deserves, that way it will be an even greater seller andspecial edition to the MP3 Department.

One of my all-time favorites
I was so happy this Brubeck CD finally came on line for sale. It is one of my all-time favorites. As a younger person I had most every Dave Brubeck Quartet LP which was available. I had the great fortune to actually meet the Brubeck's in Connecticut back in 1990 when my wife and I took our daughter to attend college. A great deal of Brubeck fans consider this to be a not so essential album-which was my first exposure to her. I have recently obtained a CD copy of "Take Five at the Basin Street East" which features the Brubeck Quartet and McRae on every song. The woman could really sing and with the Brubeck Quartet or Trio behind her, it really exposed the public to some really listenable jazz. If you get the chance, buy it-you won't be disappointed! My only question is why are all the great Brubeck Quartet albums being issued on CD from EUROPE??? ...and usually 2-albums on one CD! Not complaining, but if I don't have it I'll buy it when available.

Natural collaboration between two GREATS!
This particular recording is beyond phenomenal! Carmen McRae is at her peak on this recording. It includes several tunes composed by Dave Brubeck that Carmen McRae sings expertly. Of many CD's released over the years in the jazz field, this is clearly one of the more memorable. Modern pianists and vocalists alive will never be able to create the quality of work found within this one CD. The OLD greats were "truly" great and that is an understatement. These people had class and finesse. What a treasure to own and listen to such an awesome musical artform.

Great Recording!
I really love this CD. I'm a Brubeck fan, but I've never heard him play with a vocalist before, and I've never heard any of the songs on the record before, so it's been a unique experience for me. The songs were mostly written by Dave (his wife Iola is frequently his lyricist), but there's one song by Gene Wright and one by Paul Desmond. The recording is great, and Carmen McRae has never been better, taking on difficult Brubeck songs like "Strange Meadowlark" and poignant songs like "Briar Bush" with incredible artistry. I only wish there were more records like this!

Perfection! Who knew?
Pretty avid Brubeck fan. LOVE McRae and just recently heard about this collaboration. I'm in awe. The thing I enjoy the most is that each artist is given a chance to shine on their own outside of collaborating. A The sound quality is great and the selection of material stellar. My only request would have been another disc! It's too good to end!

Thoughtful, tasteful small combo work. Mcrae isn't on every tune, but she's at the top of her game. Most of the vocals are ballads, reminscent of Bittersweet.

The CD captures the performances wonderfully well of two great artists Dave Brubeck and that muchunder rated singer Carman McCrae..Sadly neither performer is still with us, but on this CD both are in their prime and Miss McCrae's voiceis pretty special , once heard not forgotten.
