Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Back to Hogwarts for Harry and friends and it's already off to a rocky start. The second installment of the Hogwarts saga delves into something more of the horror ilk and so far it's been my favourite.Something I've noticed about these books is that they mature with the reader, the first few are more about finding your feet and settling into this new world book by book while the latter installments take a darker, less fun and whimsical (but being fun in their own way) and mature tone.While all the books hold elements of horror, science fiction and mystery I see this one ramping up with the horror, I mean its Harry Potter vs a Monster after all.

Beautiful story,lovely characters and a great sense of mystery around the camber and it’s just great. Would definitely recommend 5 stars

What is there left to comment on a Harry Potter book, ? Well… my little bookworm’s comments; "I very much enjoyed this book as she tells me there is lots of action, fantasy, friendship and cleverness needed by the main characters to solve the mystery". Her favourite parts of the story are those with the house-elf Dobby, Ron’s slug burbs and Harry being dragged into Tom Riddle’s diary to a time 50 years earlier when Harry’s friend Hagrid was expelled from Hogwarts".The Chamber of Secrets is the mystery story where Hogwarts muggle students turn into stone. And it lays much more of a foundation of the larger story than the first book. This is where Tom Riddle is introduced and where he turns into Voldemort to fight Harry. Several interesting new characters make their first appearance as well in this book; vain Professor Lockhart and Colin Creevy. And a troublesome spirit named Moaning Myrtle who haunts the girls' bathroom. Of course Harry’s old enemies, Malfoy and Snape, have a prominent role. There is an interesting underlying theme of muggle-hatred that fed to some healthy discussion with my daughter.This is my 8-year old daughter’s second ‘real’ book, as she proudly calls it – as this is a hard cover bound book that is very different than her vast collection of colourful girly picture books. I must say the colourful hard-cover version is actually quite nice and will last subsequent reading when the owner's little brother is bound to pick it op in due course.Our daughter has seen all the Harry Potter movies, which she thoroughly enjoyed. So she has now started to read the first few books. The books are great and she is quite encouraged to actually pick it up and continue the read - as there is lots of additional Potterish detail and trivia left out from the movies that she is keen to pick up. Given that we got a her an overpriced Hermione wand, she is particularly interested in the spells. And she found a number of entertaining story elements like part of the ‘wizard's duel’ that never made it into the movie.In the end the book is highly relatable to kids as it describes the big and small challenges that kids face every day. It shows how the characters deal with unfairness, anxiety and how boring and challenging school can be.Somehow I have the feeling this is one of those children's books my daughter will read and reread into adulthood.

If the first book in the series was an exciting adventure explaining the life of an ordinary boy in a muggle family to discovering he's a wizard "you're a wizard harry" and all his adventures in the first year at Hogwarts then the second book is a further adventure in the life of Harry, Hermione and Ron during their second year at Hogwarts.The book starts off and picks up where the first one left off, somewhere in time between the summer holidays after their first year at Hogwarts but before their second year. Taking the reader on a well written and incredibly detailed adventure of life during the second year at Hogwarts.This book is a definite page turner and as such three days after finishing the first book in the series and writing a review I have just finished the last pages of this the second in the series and find myself again eagerly recommending this series. Part way through the book already I picked this book of my bookshelf this morning as a morning read and have been reading the odd chapter or two since, not being able to stop myself from wanting to go back and read more about the adventures of Harry, Hermione and Ron.This book is well written and has a well put together plot all the details and build up are right in-front of you as a reader but again are so brilliantly written that the adventure all three of them are taken on is not to obvious until you reach the few ending chapters and discover the grand finale of this book.Without spoiling the entire plot of the book (if there are any readers who are new to the series like myself by now) I would say that I have only rated 4/5 stars because I do feel that the entire plot and finale is all a bit to similar to the first, despite being a brilliant read and a great adventure it all feels a bit familiar, it sets a great foundation for the third book and a "what will happen next feeling?" but I think the third book will hopefully have a break from the same thing happening again.At this stage I would probably want to read the first book again more so than this one as it doesn't leave me a brilliantly excited feeling more that I've read the next chapter of Harry's life, it isn't a disappointing book in the series by any means but the plot just falls a bit to flat.On the contrary to the above the final chapters are action packed and lengthily in detail allowing the reader to build up an imaginary visual scene of all the events allowing the readers imagination to run wild at all the events going on at once. This book also demonstrates Harry's growth and him actually earning his famous status for his skills are tested far more than ever, but will he step up to the plate?

Arrived in pristine condition with no folds or creases! I read these when I was around 7/8, and now my 8-year-old has started to read them. She's a confident reader but struggles understanding some of the words. It's good to read the books then watch the films. Good price and arrived quickly.

My son loves this series and I found this on Amazon in best price. Most interesting, I received in next day.
