Transcend 4TB StoreJet 25H3 Rugged Portable HDD, One Touch Backup

Firstly, I never review. Too damn busy for that. But after receiving the Transcend 1TB from Amazon, I must say damn I'm impressed. For the past 3 days I've been glued to the laptop transferring my entire photographic library from CD to Hard Drive, and it has been a pleasure. Fast speeds and a single usb which DOESN'T disconnect at the slightest movement. So far, this is quite possibly the best external drive I have bought, hands down. It feels rugged and has a great rubberized texture. I also bought a Case Logic hard drive case to keep it safe in transit, which is a bonus to keep the drive clean and usb cable with the hard drive at all times. I haven't tested the 'drop test' and no I wont be throwing it out the window any time soon, but it does feel sturdier and the construction is more that sufficient to keep the delicate components of a moving parts drive safe. So all in all, a happy buyer here. As with any drive, will keep my fingers crossed nothing crashes over the next few weeks/months as I've had happen to me before with other branded hard drives, but I've got a feeling this one will be just fine. Highly recommended!

I use this mainly to hold TV Recordings, and a few documents so that I can replay them all on my laptop when out and about, or on holiday. It comes with a suite of software, all of which means nothing to me as all I need is the storage space. One terabyte of storage is an awful lot of data storage packet into such a small space. I bought a matching case for it that holds the drive, and its usb connecting cable in a convenient package that slips easily into a corner of the most tightly compressed suitcase or hand luggage. This is my fourth Transcend storejet. I favour these Storejet external hard drives as I can attest to their ruggedness and reliability. If you are naturally as clumsy as I am then you will appreciate that these Storejets can bounce a little without any lasting damage, or loss of data. Because of costly experiences with external hard drives there are a couple of brands that I will not touch, ever again. However, I can thoroughly recommend Transcend Storejets as they have never let me down yet. My only doubt is wondering if they float or not?

Have had this for a couple of months and it's been superb. Instantly recognised by every computer I've tried it with - and that includes an old XP machine which usually has trouble with modern external drives. Speed - well, I'm not an expert, but the green block seems to move across the screen pretty rapidly. No noise apart from a helpful, rather biological-sounding squeak when you plug it in. Doesn't doesn't seem to get very warm, and the rubbery protective skin manages to look good, though haven't dropped it yet, so can't speak for shock resistance. Finally, not to be taken for granted given the behaviour of some devices on the market, files get copied with unerring accuracy.

I was looking for a high capacity USB3 drive and already have one of the older Transcend StoreJet (500Gb) drives, so thought I'd give this one a go. My older drive (purchased in 2011, I think) is still going strong and I've never had any problems with it. After placing the order, I noticed that the WD Elements equivalent (2TB) drive was 17GBP cheaper. I figured I'd go ahead and order the WD drive too, and return the Transcend drive to Amazon after it arrived. So, why am I leaving a review of a drive I presumably returned? Well, having the two drives side-by-side, I chose to keep the Transcend and send the WD drive back instead. The WD drive is very neat. It's pretty much a square and is smaller than the Transcend drive but a little thicker. The WD's housing is nice enough to look at but feels very plasticky and rigid. It has 4 small, rubber feet on the bottom but really feels like it wouldn't handle bumps and knocks very well and there's not very much grip on the casing. Straight away, I felt that I'd be forced to handle it with much more care than the Transcend (more on that in a minute) and be worried about it slipping out of my hand whilst carrying it to and from the machine it was purchased to act as a backup for (and I didn't want to have to end up buying a soft case for it). I can't attest to build quality, reliability or anything like that, as I've literally only had both drives for a couple of days. They both connect without any problems, both write at roughly the same speed in some tests I did (about 26-27MBps on USB2), both are formatted to NTFS (although oddly enough, I seem to remember the WD Elements 2TB drive actually showing up with very slightly more free space than the Transcend...maybe the cluster size is different. Anyway... I'd not even opened the Transcend drive and was midway through boxing it up and processing the return when I figured I could at least just open it. As soon as I had it in my hand, I knew that I'd be keeping this drive instead of the WD Elements. The StoreJet has a really nice rubber casing and although it's physically a bit bigger than the WD Elements, it feels like it would physically be more sturdy and the grip provided by the rubber casing means that you won't constantly be worrying about dropping it. Interestingly enough, the Transcend drive's packaging doesn't appear to offer as much protection as the WD's packaging...that could tell you something about how delicate WD seem to think their drive might be. Also, the Transcend comes with a 3yr (albeit "limited") warranty, over the WD Element's 2yr. They both come with software that most of us won't even use (although the version of WD's backup software is only a 30-day trial, whereas, Transcend's software seems to be fully functional) and both come with short USB3 cables. I prefer the cable that comes with the WD drive; it's longer and thinner (therefore, more flexible). I don't doubt that the WD Elements drive is excellent, I just preferred the Transcend and think the extras (seemingly better protection, longer warranty, etc.) were worth the slightly extra price. I'll update this review in the coming months if I have any problems with it - if you're reading this and don't see an *** UPDATE ***, assume it's still going strong. :-)

Ive been used to using 2 hard-drives per year for storing photographs, but this time I decided tom invest in a 4tb hard-drive. Took a bit of setting up as I had formatted it on my windows computer and had been using it for a short while, but then it wouldn't load up on my Mac book pro. Definitely a blonde moment for me, but I then read that I had tom format for both types of devices. Solution found and was up and running in no time and it has been brilliant to use ever since. I am known for letting things slip through my hands as I have fibromyalgia so it was better to have a more secure casing to eliminate serious damage. This item is definitely strong and sturdy and will definitely be buying it again when this one is nearly full up.

I currently had two 1 TB hard drives which I have had for over 10 years and they are huge, each one is about twice the size of this, one is completely full of music and the other is full of family photos, after transferring everything onto this I still have another 2 TB left. It is small and compact enough to just drop in your laptop bag or pocket and take with you, it feels robust with its rubber case so if you drop it your data should be safe and at this price it's a bargain considering my 1 TB drive cost me twice the price of this. I might even get another just as a back up.

ABSOLUTE GARBAGE. NOTHING BUT A BRICK AFTER THE USB FELL OUT EVERYTHING CORRUPTS AND THE DRIVE IS UNUSABLE ! COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY. You're better off giving your money to Samsung and getting a decent product.

I have two of these drives now and also two of the 1TB drives. I find them to be fast and reliable, not sure about the shock resistant claims as I haven't ever dropped them to test it and don't intend to either. I can say I often carry the drives in backpacks that do get manhandled, bumped and knocked about and feel safe knowing they are relatively robust hard drive ( not quiet a drop test but good enough for me ) I haven't had any issues with this drive and intend to purchase another one soon, the only thing I would say is to be careful with the USB 3 lead, it is a little flimsy and likely to break off in the drives port if transported connected in.

I will tell you right off from the beginning that I bought this product for a friend, so I can only tell you the very little I know about it. It appears to be a solid product as it has a rubber coating all over it and usually, when you buy a protective case for your smart phone for example, the good ones are made of rubber. I am not rough with my electronic equipment nore am I negligent with them either, so I don't need such robust protection for my drives, I prefer a more elegant looking unit, it does not have to be so tough looking. That being said, I personally would not get one of these as my first option, unless I require a drive that I know will be subjected to over average rough handling or abuse. My friend loves these drives, likes their protective coating and as he says, "if it survives my hands or rough handling, it's a solid harddrive." So there you have it, a review from the word of two people in one. One last comment, there are no complaints about under average data transfers or problems of that kind. So I think it is a good buy if you are thinking of purchasing this drive.

Un producto con materiales de gran calidad, fiable, de fácil conexión y con muy buena velocidad de transmisión. El único "pero" que se le podría poner (siendo muy rebuscado ya) es que el tamaño es un poquito voluminoso. aunque es muy aceptable por toda la protección externa de caucho que lleva. Quizás esperaba que con el paso del tiempo, este tipo de aparatos y tecnología redujeran el tamaño algo más...Muy recomendable y una fantástica relación calidad/precio.

Compré este disco duro por la necesidad imperiosa de formatear el ordenador del trabajo y por tanto de hacer copia de seguridad de algunos archivos. La marca es conocida, y fiable, y el disco duro tiene una capacidad más que suficiente para mi, además de un precio muy asequible. Y la verdad es que estoy encantada. FUnciona muy bien, el ordenador lo reconoció enseguida, la velocidad de copia, normalita (los hay más rápidos, pero también he usado algunos muchísimo más lentos). El disco es muy sólido, está recubierto de silicona, lo que hace que se agarre bien a la superficie, no se desliza en absoluto. Se ve resistente y robusto. El color es original,no el clásico negro. Es de los mejores que tengo (y tengo seis, de las marcas iomega y toshiba, de distintas capacidades). Cada uno tiene sus pros y sus contras, pero desde luego y sin género de duda: cuando necesite otro disco duro, volveré a comprar este. EDITO- Lo compré el 1 de septiembre de 2014, estamos a 25 de noviembre de 2020 y sigue funcionando sin problemas.
