The mini shibumi is a great alternative to an umbrella. It is very lightweight with a quick setup. The mini can provide shade for 2 people. There does need to be a breeze for it to work but they sell a wind assist attachment. I haven't needed to purchase that yet. It's expensive but so much easier than hauling an umbrella. The expense will be worth it if it lasts.

As you can see in the picture, I recently purchased both the classic and mini sizes. The mini performs just as well as the classic, and smaller size allows for an even faster setup/take down. My wife and I always try to see how quickly we can put it up, and I swear we're getting close to the two minute mark.We took our mini with us on a family trip to Jekyll Island and it worked wonders. The small pack size and light weight made for easy travel/carrying. Our friends on the trip ended up buying a Shibumi for themselves after sharing ours all week!The price seems very reasonable given how easy it makes our beach days, plus I can tell the quality that went into the construction will allow us to get several beach seasons out of it. Amazing product I couldn't recommend more.

Ordered this for Labor Day weekend and stated delivery was Aug 27 or 28, which was fine as leaving on 29th. It arrived on 30th. Did notice on very popular beach, only one Shibumi -- same one we ordered -- and it was super noisy despite being the less noisy version. Returned.

Purchased for a beach trip with two friends. Decided on getting the Mini version instead of the Classic since I normally only beach with 1-2 others.Pros:+ I'll be able to pack in my carry-on for my Spring Break trip next March+ It took one of us just a couple minutes to set up+ It was negligible weight and bulkiness for transport, really simplified the process compared to other shading devicesSome things I was skeptical about but turned out ok:+ Noise: I was able to have conversations under the shades and also read with no issue.+ Need for wind: Worked every day I was out (5 days). Still, I also purchased a wind assist accessory to relieve any stress in case the wind died down.

Let's call it what it is a big flag on a camping tent pole with a string. So why does this cost up to a few hundred dollars for it? Aside from them using litigation to keep a monopoly on this "concept", I can't really think of a justified reason. I look forward to the day when the market is flooded with Beach Shade Flags so people don't have to choose between skin cancer or a grossly overpriced sheet in the wind.
