Great media player
It's great for playing local content such as ripped movies and music. I have been using Plex on a different box, but this has it's own built in media player that directly accesses your media on a nas or even hard drive attached to it directly. Works great and handles HDR 10 videos and TrueHD Atmos audio tracks.

Fix's issues with Plex AND Roku/Fire Cube
This is the perfect solution for my home movie collection which sits on a 50TB NAS. Unlike my Amazon Fire cube or Roku while using Plex, the Zidoo grants me full Dolby Vision and full DTS sound tracts. As a standalone unit, it categorizes the movies just as good as Plex. I've plugged it into my HA (Home Assistant) automation setup as well as getting it working perfectly with my Harmony Elite remote. This is a great unit and Iโm glad I found it. Now, I still run Plex for the "normal" TV setups around my house that still have Rokus and I dont need the full features of the Zidoo. The Zidoo is for use in my Home theater with a 7.1.4 atmos setup.

Full Resolution and Compatibility for Audio and Video but Meh User Experience
When it comes to pure media playback, this box is a powerhouse. It handles every file format I throw at it at full video and audio resolution without breaking a sweatโthe 8K HDR and lossless audio support are top-tier. However, the user experience leaves a lot to be desired. The Android OS feels clunky and unpolished. More frustratingly, I experience consistent audio dropouts on streaming apps unless I make it a habit to restart the device at least once immediately after it boots up. It gets the job done for local media files, but because of the software quirks, I honestly preferred my Dune HD for day-to-day use.

Amazing little device.
I've had several media players from multiple vendors (WD, Popcorn Hour, Zapitti, Dune and Zidoo) and this one is far and away the best, not to mention far cheaper than my Zapitti models. It effortlessly plays any video or audio file I've thrown at it and has a nice set of GUIs to go along with it. I use it to play video files, of course, but also audio files, whether stereo or multi-channel FLAC or DSD64 files and ISO images of SACDs. I am especially please that it plays multi-channel FLAC and DSD64 files "gaplessly", which almost nobody else seemed to manage (well, one of the Popcorn Players could do it but with a mind-bogglingly awful UI). You can also customize the "video wall" interface for playing videos almost endlessly. It can be a LOT of work to do some of the more extreme things I like to do, but I'm OCD and retired with the time to fuss with it. I like it so much that I had to buy one for my man-cave as well as the one I'd had for my home theater. I connect both of them to a PC running a Samba network (which I really need to update as Windows is moving away from supporting Samba 1.0) with all my drives of video and music files on them so both devices can "see" the same source files. Previously, I'd had a USB hub plugged into the Zidoo and several drives plugged into that and it saw them all just fine (though it looked a bit like a server rack in my living room, much to the wife's dismay). The interface is snappy as well. The only fault I can think of is that re-scanning nearly 10 Tb of audio files for any new files in it takes nearly as long as the initial scan, and we're talking hours. Their scanning of video files seems to be much smarter and faster for handling new additions. They do concentrate their development effort on the video side and the audio and video developers are apparently different teams that don't communicate much so some nifty ideas on the video GUI side that would work great on the audio GUI side just aren't there and aren't likely to be. My nephew was so enamored with this model that he went home after visiting recently and bought one for himself. Do be aware that the Z9X 8K model is SIGNIFICANTLY better than the older Z9X 4K model. Oh, for programmability in the home theater, I do wish the device had discrete on and off signals from the IR remote rather than just the Toggle On And Off signal, but I prefer that for ALL my devices. Note also that some of its codes are the exact same as for some SVS subwoofer models, so using the remote for the Zidoo can mess up your various settings on your sub. My solution was to cover the IR input on the sub with electrical tape and only use the phone app to control its settings, not the IR remote.

Itโs cool, a bit unstable
It is a good device. Somewhere between a 3-4 star really. It has a couple of major issues that are not clearly advertised: 1. It doesnโt always load or read NFOs for shows. From the forums, it seems an issue only with new TV shows loaded as a new library in HT5. Apparently, it is not an issue if you imported them from HT4 or use the older model. 2. It is generally very good in stability though it requires a reboot often. In 3 days and it needed a couple of reboots to reconnect to the AVR properly using CEC. Hopefully, it is a matter of it struggling during setup and getting it fully updated to the latest firmware, but it questions its long-term stability. Iโd say it is a cool device to try new things, but unless an update improves things, it may not be a keeper if you prefer dealing with NFOs and TV shows. If you like movies and build your collection with it, it is just plain great at that.

Great and simple box.
I wanted a box that played files off my NAS. Thatโs all. This is exactly what I needed. Easy to connect and auto scans folder you point it to for movies and files to play. I started renaming a bunch to fit what itโs looking for and it started getting posters and movie info. Really easy to be a player for backups of physical media. I also work in movie post production and wanted an easy way at to play back projects I worked on. This is also great for that. I can make really high bitrate files and it plays them back with ease. Anything that modern like h264 or h265 content is awesome. I have it set to pass audio through hdmi and that has worked perfectly. Itโs an easy way to test atmos projects how they will be streamed.

Perfect for what it is.
Perfect. The reviews people leave for these devices about streaming Netflix, yeah that's not what this is. If you have a serious networked media collection on your home server this is what you need. I have a 9.4.4 system and three other zidoos throughout the house and these handle anything you throw at them. All my 4k rips are full bit rate, dolby atmos competely uncompressed files. No problems whatsoever. Highly recommend if that's what you're looking for.

Ausgezeichneter Media Player

Bang for buck
Been using this for almost 3 weeks now, and I would say that Iโm satisfied with itโs performance. The Tidal app has a bug but other than that this player is a beast!

Great media player for local content
Great media player, just what I was looking for. Plays all type of video and audio files as well as allows to view local photos in best quality on tv from the attached disk. Only ywo drawbacks - no voice input in youtube and does not show full subtitle/audio details if there are multiple options for same language.
