All arrived dead
There was only one caterpillar that was visible and it was already a crystalis when it arrived it was also dead and buried in the food I’m still waiting for it to be redelivered

Awesome!
We did this last summer and it was a great experience. All of the caterpillars arrived alive and thriving. All of them went into their chrysalis and all of them hatched out. I love the educational insert that came with it. I feel like it was money well spent for the experience. Can’t wait to do it again.

2 bad experiences
We order the full starter kit last year and the caterpillars were full grown and cocooned that night. Only 3 of them “survived.” One didn’t cocoon completely and when it tried to come out, the bottom half was still a caterpillar. It was horrible to watch. Another had a folded wing and had a hard time flying. Only one of the surviving 3 was actually well enough to fly off on it’s own without issue. This year, seeing as the reviews are so great, I hoped last year’s incident was a fluke and tried again. Our caterpillars just arrived and this time, 3 of the 5 caterpillars are already cocooned and in this big ball all together. I highly doubt that they will survive. Returning these and reordering directly from the company in hopes that I have a better experience. I know so many people who have taken part in this activity with their kids and had great experiences. Just really disappointed in mine.

Worked out great
We ordered may 26th they were shipped within 3 days of ordering. I was concerned because one shipping stop was through pheonix amd it is hot there. When we opened the box all the caterpillars appeared dead. But the next day all 5 were up amd moving within a few days they were big fat caterpillars so if shipping takes too long you will not get small caterpillars. The kids loved watching these at all stages. The. Butterfly's were not theost beautiful they were more moth like colors. It was neat to see them anyway

Great for kids
My kids loved watching all of the changes and learning about their metamorphosis. Our caterpillars were bigger than we expected them to be, but they were also late being deliver. We didn't catch them coming of their cocoons, which was a bummer, but they all came out within 24 hrs of the 1st one. Don't be alarmed by the red (meconium:poop), my kids thought it was blood. I will say I thought there would be less as the instructions made it seem like a drop here or there and maybe I just didn't think there would be much. We released the butterflies a couple days after all of them emerged. My kids already want to do it again.
